So outrageous.....I've been ranting about this for 18 years.

Coupla questions. Does Mr. Lilley love the Charter or hate the Charter.

He clearly hates the media, which makes a body wonder why he works there. No other skills, I guess.

And by halfway through, I still had no idea what he thought, though he did thoughtfully provide a full briefing on what "the left," a group to which he does not belong and, to the best of my knowledge, is neither qualified nor authorised to represent, thinks.

Do you watch this drivel regularly, Colpy? If so, I imagine your brain is currently at "mush" stage, and headed rapidly for "soup."

"

I suspect, as an intelligent individual, he HATES the Charter.

The Charter is worse than useless. It does not guarantee ANYTHING, it simply enshines methods for the state to remove ancient rights.

It has so many escape clauses.....the "notwithstanding" clause, which allows any gov't to opt out of any guarantee of rights, the limiting clause in section 1. "The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society." (my emphasis), and guarantees to aboriginals based on their race, fer God's sake.

The thing is a Kafkaesque spoof on a real Bill of Rights.

This is commentary, not intended as hard news.

It wasn't even commentary. It was another right-wing moron lying about what the gol-dang libruls believe instead of making an argument for his position.

Don't look to the idiot box for news or commentary, thanks. If I did, I wouldn't get it from MSNBC or Fox. If I want to look at what they offer, I just won't flush the toilet for a few days.

You are extrapolating US political culture to Canada.

In the USA, I'M a liberal.

In Canada, we're talking about Liberals, supporters of the Liberal Party of Canada.

And Mr. Lilly is dead on.

Only if you think "My opponent sucks!" is an argument.

You REALLY don't understand the debate up here........when it comes to gun control and the Liberal Party of Canada, "my opponent sucks" may not be an argument, but it is a definite statement of fact.

Unless you like search without reasonable cause.

Being considered guilty until you prove yourself innocent....

California boy, 7, hurt at firing range owned by his family

LOS ANGELES - A 7-year-old boy was wounded at a private firing range at his family's property in Northern California while shooting targets with his father and had to be airlifted to a hospital, police said on Tuesday.
Saturday's incident comes amid renewed U.S. debate over gun safety and children following last week's accidental fatal shooting of an Arizona gun range instructor by a 9-year-old girl with an Uzi submachine gun.
In the Northern California incident, the boy had been shooting targets with a .22 caliber youth rifle at a property the boy's family owns in the rural community of Georgetown, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
A man with a large-caliber rifle had been firing at targets from a few yards away from where the boy and his father were standing, the statement added.
Suddenly, the boy grabbed his chest and his father saw the child had a small hole in his T-shirt and was bleeding from the chest, police said.
The boy was driven to a fire station and then airlifted to a local hospital. He was released from the facility on Sunday, said El Dorado County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sergeant Chris Felton.
It was not immediately clear if the boy was struck by a bullet or injured in another way, and investigators are still seeking to determine how he was hurt, Felton said.
The boy and the man had both been shooting downrange and none of the family members watching the boy and the man shooting at targets noticed any ricochets, police said.

Girl who fatally shot Arizona gun instructor said weapon was too powerful
David Schwartz, Reuters
First posted: Tuesday, September 02, 2014 05:35 PM EDT | Updated: Tuesday, September 02, 2014 08:48 PM EDT
A 9-year-old girl who fatally shot a gun range instructor with an Uzi submachine gun last week told her mother immediately afterward that the weapon was too much for her to handle and had hurt her shoulder, a sheriff's report released on Tuesday said.
The girl's family also did not realize right away that the instructor, 39-year-old Charles Vacca, had been struck by a round from the gun, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office report.
Vacca had been showing the girl how to fire an Uzi at the Arizona Last Stop gun range in White Hills last week when the recoil caused her to lose control of the high-powered weapon, the sheriff's office has said.
Vacca was struck by at least one bullet and later died, in an accident that touched off debate over the wisdom of giving children access to high-powered firearms, even in a controlled setting such as a gun range.
The sheriff's office has said no criminal charges were pending after what it called an "industrial accident." State occupational health and safety officials have opened their own investigation.
WARNING: The video below contains images that may upset some viewers.
The girl's mother told officers that immediately following the shooting, her daughter "turned to her (and) told her the gun was too much for her and hurt her shoulder," the report said.
"(The mother) said no one knew Vacca was shot until the other instructor ran over," an officer wrote.
Another officer, citing another instructor at the range, said that when the girl fired the weapon, it went "straight up in the air." Vacca fell to his left toward a table, blood pouring from the wound.
When officers arrived, they found Vacca on the ground still breathing and moaning as another man applied a towel to his head. Blood covered a folding table next to him.
The girl's family issued a statement through an attorney on Tuesday expressing "sadness" for Vacca's death.
"Although certain people will seek to use this tragedy for their own partisan purposes and agendas, the family asks all compassionate Americans to pray for their children and the entire Vacca family," the statement said in part.
A video clip of the moments leading up to the shooting, released by the sheriff's office shows Vacca giving a girl in pink shorts hands-on instruction as she aims the Uzi at a target.
He is heard encouraging the girl and asking her to fire one shot before telling her: "All right, full auto." The weapon then unleashes multiple rounds as the video cuts off. It was apparently moments later that Vacca was shot.
The Last Stop is a tourist hub that includes a restaurant, bar, RV park and general store and is decorated with paintings of firearms, faux bullet holes and crosshairs and a mural depicting a gun-toting Sylvester Stallone in the film "Rambo." It lists the minimum age as 8.
The family had been visiting Last Stop from Las Vegas and had taken a ride on a "monster truck" before trying the shooting range, the report said.

Deadly shooting spree in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY- Three people were killed and two more critically injured in a shooting spree in a south Kansas City neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Law enforcement officials were called to the residential area known as Woodbridge, near an upscale country club, shortly before 1 p.m. CDT (1800 GMT). They found five victims with gunshot wounds, three of whom died at the scene, according to a statement by the Kansas City, Missouri, police department.
Two people were transferred to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said in a statement they located a tan-colored SUV they believe was stolen from the homicide scene, but they are still searching for a suspect.
Police later said the SUV was located by a nearby motel, where three guests were assaulted more than two hours after the shooting but police could not confirm the two incidents were related.
No weapon was used during the assault and the suspect fled the area on foot, according to police.

hmmm.... so why did the young man not just say no, come back with a warrant?? If they had used force, fine, I could see getting knickers in a knot. I wonder what would have been the reaction IF.... that young man had gone in and shot up a school, office or mall and the police had NOT done an investigation and politely asked about his reasons for such a collection.

It seems to me that owning weapons is a privilege just like driving or flying is. Drunk driving is a choice,as is flying without a license.. But it appears that drunk drivers are treated more harshly than those who are responsible for leaving a loaded gun around where a child can get at it. What is more I bet more children die in the US from guns than from auto accidents. So maybe, having one's privacy invaded legally every so often is not such a high price to pay.

We all know what the results of not NOTICING or not realizing when weapons,( guns or nuclear,) pvc's sewage or deadly virus strains not kept track of or coming up missing can be.

It is really quite frightening to know that so many people fear the government they elected so much as to allow paranoia to justify the need to keep such weapons hidden.

Yeah, but that wouldn't serve the poor-me-I'm-oppressed narrative.

Oh really?

I don't suppose you'd have any of those things called "facts" to back up such and idiotic statement?

So maybe, having one's privacy invaded legally every so often is not such a high price to pay.

Based on asinine statements?
