Yes indeed. In simpler terms, wilderness is good for you. And to echo Christopher Hitchens, I dunno what happens after I'm gone, but while I'm here I want to have the conversation about what is true, what is good, what is beautiful, because that's the only conversation worth having.

Yup...wilderness is good...
But some peoples idea of wilderness is sitting in a propane heated trailer, with hydro, Either wired or generator, Typing on the internet, postulating on the existence of God........what a laugh!

When I'm Prime Minister atheism will be outlawed and any unwashed, dreadlocked atheist who attempts, or manages, to atheist-preach anywhere will be locked up for six months.

There should be no excuse for the preaching of atheism - it is wrong - and my government will ban it.

As someone once said: "The one thing more obnoxious than a religious person preaching is an atheist preaching. The religious people have an excuse; they think they are saving souls. Atheists have no excuse."

Fear seems unlikely to me to be a sound basis for knowledge, wisdom and instruction, I'd say it's the first step on a path to ignorance, subjugation, and slavery.

I'd have thought a divine being of infinite power who wanted to get a message to us could have composed one a little clearer and less dependent on context and interpretation.
The word fear defined as humility/reverence. God does not want to enslave. He wants to set us free. From what? SIN.

I guess most believable would be dependent on the number of people subscribe to it...........First is Christianity, second is Muslim, third is Hinduism and fourth is Buddism. Guess that's about as democratic as you can get.

I think it was Hitler who said "The bigger the lie, the more people will believe it."

Or if you insist, "SIN."

Social Insurance Number. :p

If it is the wisest and most knowledgeable people must be the North Koreans.

Cliffy - If you do not believe anything the Bible has to say, so be it. Why is it you are so enraged by the book though? I suppose it is easier to conclude the book has no historic value or archeological substance. At the risk of sounding like a elitist, pompous, privileged, enlighted, elect Christian - if you would practice some humlity before the real Almighty God, perhaps you would gain knowledge & understanding. I dare you. Or are you a scaredy cat? Ask God to convict you of your sin and then wait.

You are implying that there is in fact a god which is clearly not the case. Gods exist only in the minds of some people, most of whom cannot even agree on which religion has the direct line. Until you get this sorted out amongst the believers how do you expect the rest of us to give your stories any credence?

Perhaps "Mother Nature" is the better term, but there is definitely something greater than man out there running the show.

.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what Hitler said, if he was smart he wouldn't have been dead so soon!

Perhaps but mother nature does not require huge donations of money any funny ceremonies.

OK, now define "sin." Or if you insist, "SIN."
Well, I think this about covers the definition of sin.
“There is no one righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”
13 “Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit.”[c]
“The poison of vipers is on their lips.”[d]
14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”[e]
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 ruin and misery mark their ways,
17 and the way of peace they do not know.”[f]
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.

If there was one thing he was good at it was lying and manipulating people. Not just his own people. He did a pretty good job with the international community for a few years too.

You just condemned all politicians and military command and military/industrial complexes everywhere. (but that is just the beginning).

Oh, and bankers and religious leaders who condemn others...

Meh. If not fearing a mythical being makes one a sinner then I am proud to be one.

Oh, and bankers and religious leaders who condemn others...

Is that a problem? :p

See Cliffy - We finally agree on something! Yes. NO ONE is righteous. All have turned away.

WLDB,
If there is a God, would you want to know him?

In order to know those facts they'd need to use math, which is a science.

Actually it's not. Closer to a language reallly, with very specific grammar. :lol: It's applied logic. Logic, and math, are used in science, but they aren't actually science.

Well, no. Not all have turned away. Those who give away their responsibility to others have. It is each individual's responsibility to seek the truth on their own and not trust others to tell them what is true and right. Some people find the truth in books, some find it in nature, some have even found it is love making. An open mind is the easiest way for the truth to find you. Belief is holding to a rock; a shutting of the door. Faith is learning how to swim in the stream of life. The truth is where you find it. With an open mind, the truth can be found anywhere.
