Gun Control is Completely Useless.

First of all Stewart is a comedian.

In most of his rant, he is absolutely correct. There is no excuse for torture, nor unreasonable spying on mosques without cause, military tribunals are forbidden under the fifth.......etc. 90% of the rant is dead on.

Two points:

ANY nation has every right to ban the entry of any one for any reason, or no reason at all, and that includes their philosophy, religious or otherwise.

Do you support the free entry into your country of Nazis???

Same thing.

Stewart is wrong when he says that would be a violation of the first amendment. He should read it.

My second point is just because this bunch of morons do not understand the Bill of Rights is NO reason to toss the second amendment.

Stewart blew his entire premise when he joined the idiots in an attack on the Constitution.

Eighth-grade boy arrested, suspended over NRA 'Protect your right' T-shirt

Jared Marcum, an eighth-grade boy attending Logan Middle School in Logan, W.Va., was arrested and suspended after wearing a pro-NRA T-shirt that depicted a firearm and the phrase "Protect your right" to school, WOWK-TV reported Thursday.

"I never thought it would go this far because honestly I don't see a problem with this, there shouldn't be a problem with this," Marcum said.

Logan City Police confirmed the arrest, and said Marcum was charged with "obstruction and disturbing the education process," WOWK said.

'education process'
Eighth-grade boy arrested, suspended over NRA 'Protect your right' T-shirt’
The school dress code says …..’A student will not dress in a manner that disrupts the educational process…..student will not dress in a manner that is distractive or indecent, to the extent that it interferes with the teaching and learning process,…..’
The Christian Post said that the charges stem from an alleged dispute between Marcum and his teacher. “after arguing with a teacher over school policy …The 8th grader was arrested after he allegedly argued with a school administrator over this wardrobe decision…. Other parents disregarded the incident as typical school policy.”
So maybe the teacher/ school administrator felt that the shirt was distractive (or was just being a ‘****’). The Dad doesn’t seem to get that the shirt could be distractive. It wouldn’t be a big deal to me but it is school policy.

I posted it because I found it humorous, not because I think he's right, although I think he makes some good points about how off the wall the people at Fox are.

The bit about the Muslim Militia at the end is great, which is what I meant in jest about the real threat of the 2nd Amendment.

Which is why I didn't address it.................

It was meant as a humorous break in what can be a pretty emotional issue.

There's not going to be an easy answer to this on either side in my opinion, the facts in the US argue strongly that having an armed citizenry can in fact deter crime but they also show that guns in the hands of even a tiny percentage of the population can be devastating.

My feeling is the issue isn't going to be worked out by drawing lines no one is willing to cross and from the reading I've been doing lately there's some indication that both sides of the 2nd Amendment issue in the US have been prolonging the fight because of the opportunity to keep raising millions of dollars a year from their memberships, both pro and anti gun control.

It needs to be de-politicized I think to work a reasonable compromise.

Why didn't Japan attack the US Mainland in WWII?

Would you like to know?

More people die from second hand smoke than guns. Where is the outright tobacco ban?

How is the first question related to the issue of gun control?

We've been moving slowly towards a total tobacco ban for years, it's harder to buy tobacco products and find places to smoke them.

Guns play a different role in society, there's a long history of the use of firearms for personal safety in the US and to a degree in Canada and a good argument to be made that citizens should have the right to protect themselves if police and government can't or won't. That doesn't mean there's not room to plug some of the holes in the system that allow criminals to acquire guns when they should be legally prevented like from straw buys or from a small percentage of corrupt dealers in the US case.

Because they didn't want to. Their whole objective in WWII was to diminish our Pacific seapower to the point where we couldn't interfere with them in Asia.

Or were you going to make a fool of yourself with that thoroughly debunked Yamamoto quote?

Mayhaps but I know for a fact that Japanese subs landed on Northern Vancouver Island.

Well, that's pretty silly. What use would a sub be after it landed on an island? Foolish Japanese.

Especially in that location. Even today it is not really accessible. My father was cruising timber there and saw them. Mostly they were taking on fresh water and hunting deer. After crossing the Pacific in a motorized culvert any land would look good.

Yeah, boy! They've got less than 2% of the population. Woo-hoo! That's a groundswell if I ever saw one!

It most certainly is a groundswell.

The vast majority of supporters will not join. I know this from experience here in Canada. Back when they were passing vicious anti-gun legislation (around the mid-90s) I listened to a dozen friends rant and rave and go on and swear.....and refuse to comply. But I could not coax a single one into actually coughing up the $35 per year to join either the NFA or the CSSA, despite the fact those organizations actually had a voice.

If five million actually pay to be members, 50 million are supporters.
