Palace spokesman confirmed this morning that Queen Elizabeth will abdicate over mounting criticism that she endorses wholeheartedly the questionable sport of pigeon racing. "I'd rather give up me crown than me darling pigeons!" she was heard complaining after tea this afternoon. It is suggested she will retire to Calgary, Canada, where she will continue as the patron of the sport. "There should be no problem in Calgary, after all they have the bloody Stampede!"

No, it isn't. Pigeon racing is a great British tradition. It's very popular throughout the country but especially in Northern England where usually elderly men keep hundreds of them in vast hutches in the back yards of their terraced homes. These pigeons are cherished and treated like pets.
