I like the fact she's not Whodat. She doesn't have a public utility to sell and render the province too expensive for heavy industry. The damage is done. What can she hurt now?

From the National Post Cliffy.... The numbers speak for themselves

No, from the Fraser Institute, the caption in the bottom corner says "Source: Fraser Institute". The National Post just re-packaged it. Onatario residents should wish they were comparable to California. Greece not so much. But at least they are comparing apples to apples now. Greece, California, and Ontario all share the fact that they have no power over the currency they use. Something most gloss over when making stupid comparisons to Greece.

As for the blog in the OP? It's a poorly written Op-Ed, lots of rhetoric, not so much supporting fact.

Apparently Ford does have some smarts when it comes to finance!

Teddy should stick with his mensa tests!

He should at least pass one and let us see the results.;-)

I'm guessing that the national Post did their Due Diligence on the numbers and are prepared to accept responsibility as they published them in their article. Regardless, in the end, the figures can either be confirmed or not, there is not a lot of room for selective interpretation on these.

In terms of control over their currency - you certainly are correct, but all of the aforementioned jurisdictions knew that prior to taking on the debt they have. In fact, I'd wager that one of the reasons that they decided to assume debt had to do with the strength of the currency they employ

As mentioned, the numbers are the numbers.... And by in large, they are bloody frightening figures

I'm guessing that if those numbers came from a liberal stink tank, you would be all over them like sh*t on a stick. The Post is just another biased media source. None of them do due diligence. They just reprint crap that suits their purpose. Its all about steering the sheeple in the direction the ruling class wants them to go in.

Tell ya what Cliff... Instead of speculating on what other people would (or wouldn't) do, why not actually look into the accuracy of the numbers and then deliver your ever-so-insightful analysis.

To me, it looks like you don't like what the stats represent, so in true fashion, ya bury your head in the sand and pretend that they don't exist at all... Easy solution, eh? Pretend that there are no facts and life magically goes back to rainbows, unicorns and cinnamon buns

Why would I waste my time reading stuff that means nothing to me. I have been hoping the economy would go down the crapper for a long time. Maybe then we will stop destroying our life support system and take a good hard look at what we are doing, reassess our priorities and learn to work together for a future that takes our great grandkids lives into consideration. The planet cannot sustain the rape and pillage mentality of today's economy. The way I see it is we either flush the economy now or flush the planet and all living things. But people are greedy and short sighted, so I can see that only slamming into a brick wall will stop them long enough to see what it is that they are doing to themselves and their children's children. That is why 40 years ago I went to learn how to survive in the forest. I saw this wall coming up. The sooner the people who think money is god hit that wall the better for all life on this planet.

I hear you, Cliffy, but I'm not sure it has to be quite "the either or" situation you infer. The human animals being what they are, I'm not sure greed can be removed from the equation, but if it could I don't see why we can't have industrial activity at the same time as preserving life in all forms. I don't believe that things like dumping oil in the ocean are inevitable, more the result of haste and stupidity. But until greed is not part of the scenario, you are indeed correct in your observations!

.. But you did waste your time reading it... You just decided to NOT educate yourself on the realities.

Back to the rainbows and unicorns for ya.

I have been hoping the economy would go down the crapper for a long time.

You'll be among the first causalities of that

Maybe then we will stop destroying our life support system and take a good hard look at what we are doing, reassess our priorities and learn to work together for a future that takes our great grandkids lives into consideration.

Ah, the ole Mother Gaia crutch.

The planet cannot sustain the rape and pillage mentality of today's economy.

Yeah, not like the way it sustained itself prior to mankind.

What a laugh

The way I see it is we either flush the economy now or flush the planet and all living things.

How would you have any idea on this?... You don't waste your time reading, remember?

But people are greedy and short sighted, so I can see that only slamming into a brick wall will stop them long enough to see what it is that they are doing to themselves and their children's children. What a joke... You come to this break through conclusion only after you have run your course and created all of the alledged damage for everyone else to deal with?

Stop being a chicken sh*t and call it what it is Cliffy... The economy is a byproduct of human existence.. You don't want an economy translates into a mass cull.

Why are you hardcore greeines so reluctant to call it exactly what it is?

Well, as an example check out the first graphic, comparing Ontario and California Total Bonded Debt. There is a superscript 1 and an asterisk, the superscript 1 indicating that "Ontario data is from March 31, 2011" and "California data is from June 2011" and the asterisk means the data is "As of November 2010". That's a wee bit contradictory.

In fact, I'd wager that one of the reasons that they decided to assume debt had to do with the strength of the currency they employ
The Canadian dollar wasn't always strong...which was actually to Ontario's advantage as a net exporter of manufactured goods.

Fine... There is no Total Bonded Debt, no Bond Debt to GDP, no Bond Debt per capita and no Population comparison.

Suit yourself

The Canadian dollar wasn't always strong...which was actually to Ontario's advantage as a net exporter of manufactured goods.

The value of the currency was/is not a secret to California, Ontario or Greece... It is what it is and nothing more

I never said that. No need to get all dramatic. I was merely commenting on due diligence...

There is some clever book keeping so to speack in regards to trade in the auto industry and how it created more jobs by spreading assembly between Canada/US/Mexico.

A Mexican ball bearing can cross the borders 4-5 times. Each time it cross as the product like an alternator is being assembled it is counted as a trade. More hands touch the product along the way creating malarky jobs and malarky trade stats.

The Canadian dollar wasn't always strong...which was actually to Ontario's advantage as a net exporter of manufactured goods.

The above actions of those trades has hit it's mark as intended with parity as it's goal.

Mexico is catching up and is waiting for NAFTA Oil Bourse to be fully established like we are.

The true indication of the CDN dollar staying solid is that it has become a Reserve Currency.

Perhaps Mcguinty gave up his leadership to bring to surface liberal party problems; and with present day politics period.
