No, I'm sorry, but in this debate it is NOT the NRA that are being idiots.

It is the people who declared schools "gun free zones" in a nation with at least 270 million guns.

Now THAT is idiotic.

It is the people that believe that passing some bit of "oh make my little lefty heart feel good" legislation will prevent another mass killing of innocents with no one to protect them

Now THAT is idiotic.

It is the people that think that ANY anti-gun legislation that is constitutional, and that will make it through the Congress, will even remove ANY firearms or high capacity magazines from circulation.

Now THAT is idiotic.

It is the people who think that an AR 15 is required to kill 20 children trapped in a classroom, with no armed adult to defend them.

Now THAT is idiotic.

It is the people that think it is more important that the children go to a school with a "gun free" philosophy, than it is to actually protect them.

Now that is not only idiotic, it is down right irresponsible.

How you scoring on the idiot scale so far??

How has this guy never has his teeth slapped down his throat??????

this fellow 'pratt' tried and tried to get his point across, 'that' if the schools only had security
to defend themselves, this lunatic would have thought twice before he went in there, 'knowing' they
are sitting ducks.
The schools are defenseless, it is open season for the wacko's, or anyone who takes a notion to
walk into a school and kill as many as he can in a short period of time.

if a school has 15 teachers, and 5 of them agreed to take the training, then carry a sidearm, then
anyone breaking into the school, will be brought to a halt before they kill 27 people, they might
take down one or two, but then 'they' will be brought down by one of the teachers, or an armed
security guard, if that is what the school has.
sure, there are things I would disagree with mr pratt about, but piers morgan
was an idiot, I watched that interview, it was done poorly.

Oh yes more guns are needed lol.

not sure if you replying to my post or not. there are different conversations concerning
the gun problem.

airports and other institutions have armed security, but the schools are helpless, and
are so vulnerable to these attacks, that must be stopped.
Those kids and some of the adults would still be alive if they had the ability to
defend themselves, and I think it is criminal that the country leaves them helpless.

Other aspects of the gun problem you mention, I agree with.

But i'm also finding out, as I listen and watch lots of interviews, that the general
media have overblown the description of the weapons that are out there. I am learning
about restrictions.
For example the public isn't allowed to walk around with a weapon that can shoot
many rounds per second, there is a limit, but the media didn't tell us that. It makes
it difficult when the media does not tell the truth, and people like me are trying to
depend on them to inform us. They aren't doing that.

I watched an interview today on american t v, and interviewer constantly interrupted the lady,
who was obviously very intelligent and knowledgeable, and wouldn't let her finish her points,
hence, we again were left in the dark.

There is big problems, and hopefully obama/biden will improve things big time.

I sure don't have any answers to this debacle, except to say that as tragic as this event is (could hardly imagine anything much more tragic) but a lot of people want radical solutions NOW. Ain't gonna happen. In most cases I would say guns in the schools for protection is nuts. Not only would it require excellent marksmanship by a number of teachers, but would they have the mental capacity to gun a guy down? I agree with restrictions on certan firearms, but that is only going to help a very small percent. There are always going to be tragic events no matter what we do, but the one thing we don't want to lose is the ability to live normal lives without fear.

You know what, Colpy, you just can't stand someone who talks logic and common sense. Pratt was the one sounding like a blithering fool. Anyone who supports having assault weapons is insane. Morgan had him against the ropes. Just admit it that you are on the losing side in this argument and you are getting desperate.

The difference between you and I Risus, is that I am interested in actions that may actually save some lives, while you are only interested in maintaining an illogical and unrealistic philosophical standard.

If the already gong show-like 270 million guns can't reduce gun violence how many are needed? 500 million? 2 billion?

It is illogical to think more guns will reduce gun violence. It's statistically impossible.

Now, there is a statement I do agree with. There is no way in the world you can make everyone 100% safe. You can arm schools to the teeth just to have a sniper blow away kids as they walk home from school.

Ontario actually announced a locked door and security cam entry for schools....

Ontario to implement

Won't help much!

The school in Connecticut had the same policy. Well, locked door anyway.

Actually, the 270 million guns do reduce gun violence, if you let good people carry them.

True. Plus it always comes as a surprise when someone goes on one of these rampages. How would a security guard be any different? Who would guard the kids from a guard who goes postal?

There's another angle I hadn't thought of. How many nutcases would start applying for the 100,000 guards required? Just like prior to 9/11 the U.S. had these AlQaeda bastards taking flying courses at various flying schools around the country. There's a million other ways of harming kids like putting anthrax in the water systems!

The gun profiteering lobby, aka the NRA, aren't dumb. They know that if every school has a local Matt Dhillon walking the halls packing heat some kids will be drawn to it and want their own.

you are assuming that the teachers who would have the sidearms would be untrained and panicky when in
the midst of a situation such as the one in newtown, of course not, a teacher is a human being, many different types of people teach, and some of them would be very suitable
to be trained as a security person as well as a teacher, many of them are good leaders, strong people,
who could be trained to act as they should when needed, and the teachers who are not comfortable
being trained to carry and use a sidearm, would not have to.

easy to say it is nuts ot have armed people in a school, when your kids/grandkids/wife/husband etc
was not one of the gunned down, and you would know that he/she could still be alive if someone was
able to defend themselves.
How do you feel about the schools having 'no' way of protecting themselves, how do you feel knowing
they are sitting ducks to a gunman who is there to kill.
It makes me embarrassed, because we arm many institutions to defend themselves, but the kids and teachers
have to use their bodies, give me a break.

If that principal, who tried to stop him from climbing in the broken window, had a chance to defend
herself, she might have stopped the whole damn thing from happening. Why is that nuts, she might
have saved all of her staff and pupils who were killed, and all of those funerals that we are seeing
each day right now, would not have to be.

if someone had a gun in that school, or two or three, many of those people would be alive, doesn't anyone
think about that.

Of course the mental health situation must be upgraded, but that doesn't mean that the recent tragedy
would not have happened, there are so many different types of mental illnesses, and obviously the
mother was his care giver, and that situation made any security full of holes, with those guns in the
house.

Sorry Colpy I can't quite agree with you there. I'm all for guns..........in their place, in the bush, on the farm, at the shooting range and in the home, but NOT in the schools. In the school the gun would have to be secured at all times under lock and key and what good would that be when a lunatic breaks through the door?

Sure Talloola, in that case it probably would have reduced the mayhem. But now you have a potential in 100,000 schools around the country for a teacher to go "postal" and blow away some obstreperous brats. In the long run it would be a losing proposition.
