SAN ANTONIO - A woman is in critical condition after she was stabbed outside her child's school Tuesday morning.

The attack happened around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday outside the Bonham Academy on St. Mary's Street. Teresa Barron, 38, had just dropped off her child at the school when the child's father showed up, and the two got into an argument. The child's father, 38-year-old Roberto Barron allegedly then stabbed the woman several times in the upper body and neck area.

Police say a bystander who happened to be a concealed handgun license holder pulled his weapon and ordered Barron to drop the knife. Barron surrendered and was taken into custody by the bystander and a school district officer.

The woman was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Barron was arrested for aggravated assault, and is in jail on a $150,000 bond.

Just goes to show that an armed person can help stop crimes. I have owned, and used weapons for the past 55 years, and i still fire off over 500 rounds every month.

Thank goodness he was in the right place in the right time. If not, I am certain this story would have had an entirely different ending. Hopefully the woman will make a full recovery.

I'm sorry, the first thing that came to mind when reading this report was "Aggravated Assault???"

I would have thought Attempted Murder would have fit the crime a little better.

The official position is to call police and take down information. Police will show up in a week or two to read your statement. They do not like competition.

Which proves that needing a permit does squat to prevent gun crime.
How does one get convicted of suicide? Presumably if one is successful there is no one to charge.
One story of a guy arresting someone (after they have already committed a violent crime) is hardly proof that weapons in society does any good.

As for the link there is more to it than suicides:

Among the new incidents included in the June update are:

Florida: On June 6, 2010, permit holder Gerardo Regalado, 38, committed Hialeah, Florida's worst mass shooting: killing four women, including his estranged wife, and wounding three others at the Yoyito Cafe-Restaurant. Regalado (pictured above) killed himself after the attack.

Missouri: In May 2010, concealed handgun permit holder Johnnie Pulley, 61, was convicted of shooting and killing 17-year-old Brandon Colenburg after Pulley mistook Colenburg for the person who had beaten him on a public transit bus in April 2009. The mother of one of Colenburg's friends testified that he had been at her home at the time of the original assault on Pulley.

Pennsylvania: On June 12, 2010, Paul Hansen, bass player for the cover band Disorderly Conduct, allegedly shot and killed Melissa Barnes, 28, the host of the party where the band was performing. Barnes had reportedly confronted Hansen after being told that he had threatened a party guest. Hansen allegedly drew a 40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and shot Barnes once in the head.

Yes I read all that. But they are including suicides to make their numbers look better.
The rest just proves that registering guns does not prevent gun crime so is mostly useless.

I don't agree with registration either. I agree with a complete ban of any kind.

There are countries where owning any kind of a firearm is illegal. Yet they still have murders committed with firearms.

Japan severely restricts possession of any type of firearm, but they still have firearm involved in crimes. They also have people making nerve gas and unleashing it on the general population.

If you want to harm others, or commit a crime, you WILL find a way.

In the meantime, the Constitution of the United States of America preserves the right of the people to "keep and bear arms". So long as you do not have a record of convictions for crime, or a record of mental illness, you can own firearms.

I own, and use, a number of firearms. They are kept in a locked safe, with the exception of one unchoked shotgun, that is loaded with 5 rounds of Number 4 shot. That weapon is kept in my bedroom, and I would not hesitate to use it if someone breaks into my house. So far, it has not happened, but I would use it if someone does break in.

Yeah. I would say attempted murder is the right charge. The woman is in critical condition for God's sake!

You obviously missed my post on this in the Gun Control is Completely Useless thread....

If the moderators will forgive me......here it is:

Here's an article by an anti-gun guy on murders done by CCW holders....

Josh Sugarmann: Murders by Concealed Handgun Permit Holders: 52 Convictions or Suicides and Counting

There have been 175 murders by CCW holders in the USA between May 2007 and July 1, 2012.

Terrible.

But what he fails to tell you is that there are seven MILLION CCW holders in the USA.

Do the math.

That is 35 murders a year by CCW holders. Break it down.....

The murder rate committed by CCW holders is 0.5 per 100,000 per year.

For comparison, the Canadian murder rate is 1.6 per 100,000 per year. Three TIMES that of US gun "nuts".

Oh, and the rate among the general US population is 4.2 per 100,000....fully 8 times that of the guys carrying guns.

Think about that.

Oh, and the US murder rate continues to steadily decline.......it is now less than one half what it was when the first CCWs were issued back in the very late 80s..........

Were Mr. Sugarmann of the Violence Policy Center really concerned with lessening violence, he would encourage CCW..

Yeah, bans work.

One story of a guy arresting someone (after they have already committed a violent crime) is hardly proof that weapons in society does any good.
Then what do we need cops for? All cops do is chase and catch people that have already perped crimes. So I guess there's no proof that cops have any use.......... at least according to your "logic".

I don't. It's not like it's the gun-owning law-abiding citizens going around murdering people. And I recall when they had a ban of a different sort a while back. It was called the Prohibition and it did nothing to curtail the consumption of alcohol, it just drove it underground.

And make no mistake. Banning guns won't make it any harder for criminals to get their grubby little mitts on them, and they are the ones we should be worried about.
