I don't know if this has been pointed out here, but Michael Sona saying that he resigned because of the harrassing accusations levelled at him by the media is complete and utter BS...the media said nothing about him until after he resigned...he was a sacrificial lamb, plain and simple, all the more believable because of his previous record of attempted election fraud...

I don't like to judge a book by it's cover, but I'd say that "book" is a Christmas cake recipe book. (If you get my drift)

Interesting, looks like the robocall tactic is not exclusive to the federal Cons...

Dirty trick robocalls made during Ontario election, say Liberal, NDP candidates - Winnipeg Free Press

I'm surprised no one thought of this earlier. Anyone that has their spidey-tinglers enabled should have guessed that Whodat is an evil ****. I'd love to see some more investigation into Ford's election as well. :)

Elections Canada probe spreads to Thunder Bay from Guelph

An Elections Canada investigation prompted by misleading calls to voters during the final days of last May's election is spreading, the CBC learned Wednesday.

The growing probe will involve interviews with some employees of a call centre based in Thunder Bay, Ont., operated by Responsive Marketing Group. The company was hired by the Conservatives to reach out to voters.

It was not immediately clear whether the interviews in Thunder Bay are directly connected with the continuing investigation by Elections Canada in Guelph, Ont.

A former employee of the RMG call centre in Thunder Bay told CBC earlier this week that some staff were poorly trained and that could be one reason voters may have been given false information about polling station locations.

Another RMG worker, who asked to remain anonymous, described to CBC Radio's As it Happens Monday her discomfort with the way she felt her fellow employees were asked to influence voters on behalf of the Conservative Party. They weren't allowed to say they worked for a call centre, she said.

The employee said she and other workers took their concerns to the RCMP, but "they said they didn't want to listen, it wasn't their area, and it was now all over and done with."

After following Question Period the last few days on this, the scope and framing of the discussion of this matter in the house, has changed in quite a few intriguing ways. G&M has posted the evolution of this fight between the opposition and the Tories. It's pretty enlightening how one party will evolve when they're under enough heat.

From cautious discipline to denial and accusation: the Tory line on robo-calls

Thursday, Feb. 23: “The [Conservative] Party was not involved with these calls and if anyone on a local campaign was involved they will not play a role in a future campaign. Voter suppression is extremely serious and if anything improper occurred those responsible should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.” – Jenni Byrne, 2011 national campaign manager, in a statement

Monday, Feb. 27: “If the NDP has any information that inappropriate calls were placed, and we certainly have information in some cases and we have given that to Elections Canada, then I challenge that party to produce that information and give it to Elections Canada.” – Prime Minister Stephen Harper in the House of Commons.

Wednesday, Feb. 29: “The Conservative Party can say absolutely, definitively, it has no role in any of this. ... This is a smear campaign nine months after the election by the Liberals. This is why they continue to lose elections, it’s a party that does not accept that it lost the election.” – Mr. Harper in the House of Commons

“This is nothing but an unsubstantiated smear campaign on behalf of the NDP, and they should withdraw all their comments in this regard.” – Dean Del Mastro, Conservative MP and parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister, in the House of Commons

Someone sent me a petition link to enforce a public inquiry into this matter. It currently has over 35,000 signees. I recommend everyone sign.

As did I.

Wondering why it took so long for them to act on this one???

Robocalls investigation by Elections Canada probes suspect election calls in second riding: report | News | National Post

Elections Canada is reportedly extending its investigation into misleading election phone calls in Guelph to the city of Thunder Bay, Ont., where call centre workers claim they gave out incorrect voting information on behalf of the Conservative party.

Call centre staff working for Responsive Marketing Group, a company hired by the Conservative party during the federal election, spoke up earlier this week to say they received push-back from the Canadians they called over voting station locations.

“We would call these (voters) and they would say ‘we went there and that’s not a real place,’” one woman told the National Post. “The whole call centre (noticed it was happening).”

Staff reported the issue to their supervisors and the RCMP, but were told to stick to the script.

Elections Canada said Thursday they could not confirm any details about the investigation, but the CBC reported the agency was now probing suspicious phone calls made in the second Ontario riding.

I have a feeling this accusation is going to be discredited by tomorrow. It's definitely a diversion tactic that's become the Tories' official m.o.

Maybe Baird will handle the apology again. ;)

Pushing back on robo-calls, Tories blame Liberals for electoral mischief

Stephen Harper’s Conservatives are fighting back in the wake of opposition allegations the Tories arranged for pre-election calls impersonating the Liberal Party to alienate Grit voters.

These accusations are different than the robo-call controversy in the riding of Guelph – now under investigation by Elections Canada – where voters were told to head to the wrong polling stations.

Liberal candidates and voters have been complaining in recent days that annoying calls were made in the run-up to the election by callers identifying themselves as working for the Liberals. Interim Leader Bob Rae has suggested it hurt the party’s political fortunes in the May 2 election.

But The Tories suggest it was the Liberal Party’s own get-out-the-vote operations that were making the calls and said the burden should be on Mr. Rae to prove it was otherwise.

The Liberals allege hundreds of voters received phone calls at inconvenient hours from people presenting themselves as being Liberal Party workers. In an apparent bid to alienate electors, these calls arrived at supper time, late at night or on the Sabbath for Jewish voters.

The Conservatives, however, suggest it was merely ham-fisted Liberal calls.

The Conservatives say public records show Liberal ridings across Canada spent more than $1-million on firms such as First Contact and Prime Contact that telephone electors to seek support and call people to gauge their support.

First Contact calls itself “the leading Canadian supplier of call centre services to Liberal candidates and office-holders in Canada.”

Long-time Liberal MP Joe Volpe, who was defeated in the closely fought Toronto riding of Eglinton-Lawrence last year, complained that electors were flooded with repetitive and harassing phone calls, falsely made in his campaign's name.

Call display showed the calls as originating in North Dakota, he said.

Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro, the parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister, pointed out however that Mr. Volpe’s own riding spent money on voter-support call firms such as Prime Contact. It has offices in North Dakota.

“Joe Volpe paid over $25,000 to Prime Contact, a company with offices in North Dakota,” Mr. Del Mastro told the Commons.

A B.C. Liberal Party candidate has public acknowledged that calls they arranged to solicit voter support also showed up on call display as coming from the United States.

Former Liberal candidate Diane Janzen told The Chilliwack Times last April that this occurred because calls arranged with the aid of First Contact relied on a computer “based in the U.S., similar to other patented software for computers.”

I think I'll wait and see what Elections Canada and the RCMP dig up, before I join the half cocked crowd.

Carry on.

Good plan, with politics you can just never tell which side is the crookedest and quite often they take turns at it anyway!

Reason we need a public inquiry to bring to light all the dirty tricks played and make them illegal, i know this petition is focused on the Cons. Not relevant. An inquiry is relevant.

What will a costly public inquiry, focused on the CPC expose, that a costly, concurrently running investigation by Elections Canada, and the RCMP, focused on the CPC, won't?

Elections Canada and the RCMP will only be looking to see if charges are warranted. An Inquiry looks at it all - From Robo calls that are untraceable to all the other dirty crap that all parties play.

To me it is a large difference.
