Well, A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the good folks here on Canadian Content.

I enjoy you all, even the ones I swear at........

Now, as those of you who have actually read any of this thread may know, I made a wager with Petros back awhile ago. the wager was that if the Long Gun Registry was not killed by the New Year, I would take 30 days off from posting on this site, and if it WAS dead, he would do so.

Well, it ain't dead. Yet. I may have been correct about the gov't's intentions, but I wasn't right enough.

Despite the fact I goaded him into the wager in the first place, Petros graciously released me from the necessity of taking the time off. I appreciate the gesture, but no matter, I'm gonna disappear anyway. I have things to do this January, and hanging out here with my thumb up my arse doesn't get them done.

So I'll see be talking to all you people the first of February......just in time for the return of Parliament!!!

Enjoy!

Oh....I'll be lurking, keeping notes.....maybe even send a PM or two.....

Police departments have always been on the side of Weapons registration, even here in the States.

That is correct. And police in the States have always been at the forefront of the effort to maintain the laws which criminalize automatic weapons.

So should makers of hockey sticks, baseball bats, etc., car and truck makers the list could go on and on. Just what would you solve?

Guns are specifically designed to kill life, animal or human and since there are few laws to protect animal killing and lots for human killing when a gun maker's product kills a human they must go to jail.

I have not shot a human in over 30+ years and as for a animal (never), mostly I shoot at sanctioned shooting events.

That's not necessarily true. Target guns were made to poke holes in targets.

So, vehicles kill people, too. Using your train of "thought", vehicle manufacturers should be accountable.
Fat and oils kill people, as well. Sources of these should be held accountable. That would include damned near everything edible including vegetation.

Colpy, you posted some good stuff in your OP. Our firearms laws were fine before the hypoGRITs screwed with the them.

Northern Ontario,
Gun makers must go to jail when their products kill people

The responsibility lies with the end user of the product.....not the maker if the product performs as it's supposed to.
I see you didn't wait long after Colpy said he was taking a month of to post such s silly statement.

Typical (Pas ma faute) reaction from people who would have big brother control every aspect of their lives8O

As do I. Judging by the nature of his rather well researched posts in the past, I anticipate he'll have fully researched, indexed and quotable dossiers on many members upon his return. Could be fun. :)

What is the difference between registering weapons and registering the individual?

I'm a bit confused by whether you are arguing in favor of registration or not, since, if an individual wishes to work in Canada, they must register with the social insurance program. So, unless they are independently wealthy and not accumulating capital gains, Canadians are registered.

It is kind of a slippery slope argument to compare registering other things to registering individuals (who are mostly already registered). I can see reasons for the SIN's that people must get, but I cannot see any purpose in the government knowing how many dildoes I own. That sort of requirement would just be perverse. I can imagine that in Texas, where the sale of dildoes are illegal, they'd really like to know how many dildoes I own.

So, to answer your question. The difference between registering weapons (or other things) and registering individuals is a matter of context. We register individuals for tax purposes (we register immigrants for other purposes) but we register weapons because of their potential for abuse and our desire to make it difficult for criminals to acquire them. Whether those are good enough reasons is a different question.

Target guns were designed to poke through targets and as long as it is not a human then the gun makers don’t have to worry but when a target gun pokes a hole through a human then the gun maker has to go to jail.

I love it when you take on the persona of your avatar.

Does your policy encompass knife and sporting equipment manufacturers as well?

I wonder if a bolt from a cross bow would count? And does nailing the manufacturer free the trigger puller of guilt?

Liberalman is not a liberal. He is an alien plant put in to discredit the Liberals.
