You keeping missing the point, with regard to Catholic schools: they are enshrined in the Constitution of Canada. They are guaranteed although no other religion is, save that everyone has freedom to practice their own religion (or lack of) and cannot be discriminated against based on those beliefs. To that end, we have the secular public school system and do not prohibit privately funded religious schools.

I'm well aware of this fact but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it. The constitution is eventually going to have to be opened again and when it is this must be removed.

Well Buckey, It will not be removed - Amending the Constitution is quite difficult.

Tempers flare over school prayers in Toronto

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2011/09/18/18702961.html

In Toronto there is a public school system and a separate school system, which is operated by the Catholics.

Toronto taxpayers have their choice of either their tax dollars supporting one or the other.

Prayers in public schools are not necessary and if parents feel strongly about prayer in the schools then they should get their kids enrolled the separate school system.

As per the BNA Act, this applies to Catholics only, not members of other religious communities. The ultimate special treatment.

I have no objection to prayer or a moment of silence before school. What is wrong with enforcing a kid to shut up for a minute to reflect on what they will do that day. Doesn't have to be prayer, doesn't have to be religious.

This is how a kid thinks. Or at least I did.

And now a moment of silence to pray..

Man, Mr. Dorkman is going to kick my ass when he finds out I didn't bring my science project. Rob Major thinks he's so bad ass, someone oughta thump him.. I wonder what color underwear Janey Thomas wears. Probably black silk or satin, oh crap I forgot I'm wearing track pants. If you saved up all the boogers that came out of your nose in your lifetime I wonder how big of a box you would need to hold them. Why do women think Pierre Trudeau is handsome, the guy is uglier than Marty Feldman. My left nut is getting itchy, I gotta do a secret scratch....

Amen! Open your books and have your science projects ready/

Damn it!

You are looking at it in the wrong way. Canada way back then protected minorities rights.

Well then, I guess they can just ignore it by abusing the notwithstanding clause. If Quebec can do it, why not Ontario?

How does that work when education is a Provincial responsibility?

The right bashes Muslims, and then the left bashes Christians.

And those that are intelligent enough to think for themselves bash or try to ignore all cults.

That's right, and this was a requirement for the province to join confederation. The same reason that Alberta has a separate Catholic school system.

Do you know if that applies to B.C. as well? I know that most if not all religious schools get partial government funding but not sure if that is connected to any constitutional rights or just because they have to follow the provincial ed system/

No it's not.

I gather you're too damn lazy to do your own research and actually learn what is and what is not on subjects that you comment on.

No Gerry people are not always informed on topics that you may have knowledge of. Is that such a problem.
