Here in Quebec we do not have what were public RC and Protestant School Boards, we now have English and French School Boards. There are no more religion classes as before, now they have courses on the differences among religions in general from around the world as well as general morals.

However I have heard but cannot confirm that accommodation are made in schools for Muslims with reference to prayers and swimming lessons.

With that logic all mosques should be classed as illegal due to discrimination against women. I can tell you how the SCOC would rule. Send me a few hundred for the answer.

Actually, you missed the point. With that logic, the government should not be providing mosques in schools. If you want to be a discriminatory group, do so on your own turf, not as part of the school system.

I think that the Human Rights Commission should rule on whether our school system can have such functions that force girls to sit in back, and prevent girls who are menstruating from attending. What do you think about that? What if we disallowed any girls who were menstruating from attending math class? Doesn't that make sense? Their blood might upset the math gods.

I do from time to time Not get it as they say – But I got the point. Religious rights trump whatever the CHRC can come up with – The Charter /BNA are the lead documents for this. Also HR Comms do not have to follow the same legal procedures as would occur in any trial, civil or criminal.
It is their Religion, whether I agree or not, it is their religion and up to Muslims to change as they see fit.
The problem that excites people is the dual standard employed by the Govt by using an experimental program for 9 years.
The best way to understand what divides people is education and exposure. It may or may not change a person mind, then again it offers the opportunity to learn about them, their beliefs, as they learn about yours.

I understand what you are saying, and I can understand working with religions for good reasons.

What bothers me is that, by officially sanctioning this in a school, during school hours, we are telling girls that menstruation is evil, ungodly, and unclean, and that girls are secondary to boys. I believe that runs counter to what we are supposed to believe.

And that is why education is needed. It is an affront to many who believe in equality, but the facts are that is part of their Religion.

Yes, the education is needed (thats why its the law until kids are 16), but that still doesn't justify the school district providing an opportunity for the religion that propogates such discriminatory practices to desiminate them further.

...If it was catholics, I'd have a problem with it.

The issue is, public schools have been off limits to all religious commitments.

Correction: in Ontario, it is Catholics; and separate schools are still public schools in that they are publicly funded.
