Marchant ate a whole box of breakfast cereal from the stanley cup, a good smack on his head with the
cup would have created a dent in the cup, but no harm to his head, but rather pleasing to watch.

and the other day it fell off of a table, and received a dent, i'm sure its not the first one
in all the years it has travelled around druing the summer.

The Montreal Canadians tossed it on to a frozen lake once and left it. The next morning the realized what they did and luckily it was still there.

So your point?

Canucks training camp opens this morning, here we go everyone.

I listened to a great interview this morning on team 1040. The fellow was talking about Luongo, and suggested that the canucks fans, this season, should take a big part in his success by getting behind
him much more with good support.

He thinks, (and he is right) that luongo is a person who is brilliant, but of course like any goalie or
player has rough times, 'and he is sensitive to criticism', its just the way he is, just like the way one
can compare their group of friends or co workers, some are thick skinned, some are sensitive, and some
don't care about anything.

So, his point was, that if the fans show support for him openly, all year, he will play better, and won't
struggle so much.
(but I have to remind everyone that luongo had a very good season last year, till playoffs)

He also stated, (and I have said this too), that money has nothing to do with character and personality,
as that is who one is, with no money or lots of money)

Maybe it will be easier this season, as he only makes 5. whatever, and not 7 mil. lol
The 7 mil season is over, won't be back.

Just thought I would start the season off with this post, just something to think about. The fans play
a big part in the success of a team, (at the games), and (phoning in), and the constant whining and
complaining about luongo does get tiring and boring to hear all the time, maybe we can toughen up a
bit, and be more supportive, and surprise him, as he must just shake his head sometimes, and wonder
how people can be that critical, as soon as he stumbles.

I don't hear anyone talk about his great season, and how he was one of three nominated for vezna award.

Whadyathink!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good post and very sensible about Luongo. I'm still in the summer mode and haven't paid too much attention to hockey so far. Still waiting to see what happens to the bone heads who started the riot!

I agree that people don't give Luongo enough credit. He's a world class goalie and if we're going to get another crack at the cup anytime soon, he's going to be the guy to get us there - so give the guy some encouragement for once!

I also think the media should stop interviewing the team after every single game. We have great players who had a great season last year and we should kick the doubters out of the locker room and just let our guys play hockey!

Go Canucks Go!

I believe the media would be all the more hostile if they were not given access to the players.

It is hard for me to get behind him when we get to only one or two games a season. Luongo has been at his game for quite a few years now and at five million per year he needs to get more consistancy into his game. Anyone who is getting over 60 thousand
per game should be making those big saves.

well I have to repeat 'he had a very successful season last year', but no one seems to remember that because
of the poor play in the playoffs.
And, even his poor play in the playoffs was in between good play, in some games.

I don't understand your phrasing, (get to only one or two games a season)??? just don't know what you
mean.

I have to add, that if they could ever find a good trade for Luongo, I would not be against that move, and
that isn't because of luongo at all, it is about cory schneider, how good he is, and how young he is, as
Luongo is over 32 or whatever now, and schneider is going to be a great goalie, and I hate to see the
canucks trade him away , as luongo winds his career down over the next four or five years, we need schneider
but he isn't a back up, he is a starter, so I don't know how they can do it.

I just think interviewing the players literally after every game, win or loss, is overkill. Interviewing them every few games would be more appropriate in my view.

I thoroughly agree, but the media isn't interested in the good of the team, only themselves, and they
want to catch the players 'off guard' so they might, (still in the heat of the moment) say something
controversial.

brad richards finally got the big new contract, 9 years with the rangers, and about 60 million dollars,

someone to finally play alongside gaborik.

then when l.a. realized they had lost the bidding war for richards, they quickly pulled simon gagne

into their clutches, and signed him for 2 years, guess thats the first time he will have played in

the western conference.

rip ripien has gone to winnipeg, glad to be rid of him, not dependable, too many personal problems.

See what I posted a few weeks ago, now that he has passed on, I feel guilty about those words, but they
were honest, I did mean them.

Rest in Peace

I think getting behind Lu is a great idea, talloola...........you are too right about how fan support can really motivate a person and a team. We are all human and some of us more so than others ;-), the fact that Lu is an emotional person and easily swayed by fan support does not take anything away from the fact that he is a good goalie as was proven during the regular season last year.

Maybe more people should read The Secret, then they would understand that what you think about you bring about. So let's all think positively about Lu and the team and we will be off to a great start this season. Great post talloola.

I am way past caring about the riot, JLM. Why it is taking them so bloody long to do anything while Britain already has their perps in jail is infinitely puzzling to me. I don't doubt we will still be waiting for news once the new season is well under way.

I am still in football mode but I love that talloola is keeping us abreast of happenings with the team.

I believe the media would be all the more hostile if they were not given access to the players.

I think you have a valid point there, Durka. Besides, if they don't let them interview the guys, knowing the media they will just start making things up.

thanks, its a verbal greenie, worth just as much. lol

The point the fellow was really making is that the fans should realize their own responsibility in their
participation for success, instead of watching for mistakes, and eager to grumble right away.

Fans are part of winning and losing, and not there just to be judging everyone, they too must play
their part in the success of the team, and constantly riding all players who don't play great all the
time doesn't cut it, just tells me they 'really' don't understand sports/games and how hard it is to
be your best all the time, and how hard it is to win, as all teams are out there to do the same thing.
WIN WIN WIN.

Of course media should interview players, but immediately after games sometimes creates a negative result,
which of course, the media love.

There is a NHL rule for all teams concerning how many interviews they must give the media.
So, if coaches/mgrs/players decided they did not want to do interviews, they would not be allowed to do that.
They must meet their quota.

Ryan Kesler is out indefinitely, Mason Raymond out indefinitely, Manny Malhotra will miss about 2 weeks,
he has had a couple of procedures done to his eye.

There is sure a lot of players going to training camp, thats good, and it only last about 4/5 days, then
first exhibition game on tuesday, and team will be thinned out fairly quickly from there on.

I will look for exhibition game tv schedule.

can't find an exhibition sched. anywhere.

canucks have two games today, one in calgary at 6p.m. and the other in vancouver at 7, split squad,

one game is on team 1040 the other on team 1410. don't think either one is on tv, but not totally sure.

canucks lost in calgary and won in vancouver, lots of new guys, and older tryout guys, thought
marco sturm played very well, he should help canucks this season.
the calgary team (in calgary) iced quite a strong team, lots of regulars, some new guys.

Ballard looks very healthy now, he will have a much better season.

Eddie Lach, 6ft. 5in. goalie, (played on the moose last year), looked very good, schneider had a
bit of a shaky game. Manny Legace played for canucks in vancouver.

The vancouver game was televised right after the jays game.

canucks play edmonton thursday.

I thoroughly enjoyed tonights game, canucks @ Edmonton. The canuck roster, with the exception of Cody
Hodgson, was full of players trying out for a spot on the team, not well known at all.

Hard work, lots of desire and the canucks came away with a 2-1 victory.

Edmonton had all of their young guns playing, their regulars, a very strong squad, but even though
they were the talent on the ice, they couldn't get it done.

Canucks play two games on the week end, then they will make quite a few cuts and begin filling in the
empty places and we will see the team that will start the season.

I really like the players the canucks have, very deep in talent, and the new 'chicago wolves', their AHL
team will definitely have a strong team this coming season.

The Canucks dropped a pre-season game against the Sharks. It seemed like the whole farm team was playing.
in the 4 - 1 loss.

yes juan, but it was a good test for those players fighting for spots on the canucks, because anaheim had
a strong squad out there, so it was a big uphill battle.
bobby ryan, ryan getzlaf and cory perry are probably the 'best' forward line in the NHL, then their second
line led by salanne is a top line too, so they certainly had their hands full.

I think canucks will thin out the team by quite a bit today, and tonights game against san jose will
probably see some of canucks top players for the first time in exhibition play.

UPDATE;

have to take that back, just heard that top players will NOT be playing tonight, it will be more of the
same, as canucks try to decide what players are making the team and who are not.

I am thinking that because the season went so late into the spring, it is good that the twins and company
don't play till they absolutely have to, gives all of them more time 'off', and also to build up intensity
to 'get' back on the ice and start up again.
The teams who play so long into the spring don't have much time to rebuild their bodies and minds to
withstand the intensity and difficulty of such a long season.
Of course they all have been practicing lots and participating in inter squad games.

Sharks should have a strong team iced, so our young guys and new guys will have their work cut out for
them again.

canucks have re assigned 7 more players, and will do the same again after tonights
game.
