From what I saw of Buffalo he could definitely make them better but not that many millions better.

he is the new owner, billionaire, they also now have robin regier from calgary, and I have to admit
they are a team on the rise, they should be competetive this season, not just because of erhoff but
they also have that very tall defenseman 6ft9in, tyler myers, good player.
their goalie, miller, is one of the best in the league.

canucks have bought into the motto, that they will take a little less to stay together and keep the
team under the cap, so erhoff obviously didn't buy into that.
I wonder how erhoff will ever live up to that kind of money, coughs up the puck
fairly regularly, is a good power play defenseman, and if he has other good
defensemen to support him he will be fine, but at 40 mil, with a 10 mil up front
paycheque, he should be the super star defenseman in buffalo, can't see that
happening, but lindy ruff is a very good coach, and will be good for any player.

canucks have signed bieksa, salo, higgins, but torres is still unsigned, not sure what he is asking
for, but he shouldn't be demanding anything, too many risky plays, and not enough consistency in
play, a few goals, then nothing for months, then a couple more, then nothing, invisible in lots of
games, then prominent in some, not good enough for a raise in pay.

NOTE" just read that torres has gone to phoenix along with bolduc

just want to add my opinion on the erhoff situation, in all fairness to erhoff,
who was going to wait and test the free agent market today, the wacky owner of
buffalo threw all of that money at him to make that decision change, erhoff would
not ever have asked for 40 million over 10 years, but once it is put on the table
in front of him, 'who would have turned it down', no one.

brad richards finally got the big new contract, 9 years with the rangers, and about 60 million dollars,

someone to finally play alongside gaborik.

then when l.a. realized they had lost the bidding war for richards, they quickly pulled simon gagne

into their clutches, and signed him for 2 years, guess thats the first time he will have played in

the western conference.

rip ripien has gone to winnipeg, glad to be rid of him, not dependable, too many personal problems.

Marco Sturm?

WTH?

gillis stated that one of the priorities for him is 'not' to get tied in 'long term' with players, so the
signing of marco sturm is short, and will give him a chance to decide if he does want him over a longer
period.
he has had a couple of injuries and surgerys, which should be fully healed by now, and he should be
good to go.
gillis mentioned how some teams have tied themselves up for a long period of time, and paid far too much
for players who had never even scored 20 goals a season in their careers.

But that is free agency, its the time owners show their panic and competetive juices against each other
and start throwing their money around, hence, erhoff and others, pretty stupid.

Erhoff got way too much: decent player but not as elite as the money he was demanding. Glad my Isles still got a 4th rd back to make up for the one they traded to Vancouver. I laughed at the Rangers signing Richards: its the same old "we'll break the bank to buy a team" philosophy that has seen them snap up about 3/4 of the top echelon free agents in the past 5 years... only to trade them or buy them out when they don't mesh in the dressing room. Richards isn't known as an easy guy to get along with already, and he already had a rough relationship with Tortarella when they were both in Tampa. I love the way idiot looks on Glen Sather, after all the comments he made in Edmonton about how well he could do with the Rangers budget...

The signing to watch, IMO, is Washington getting Tomas Vokoun. Their team defence has been getting better, and not at the expense of too much of that high octane offense. The only thing they've been missing is stability in goal, and while Vokoun really isn't a proven commodity in the playoffs, he's shown much more in the regular season than Varlamov. This could be a pretty significant step for Ovelchicken and Co.

yeah, I noticed they quickly got that 4th rounder back, and evened out. sather was so respected in edmonton,
but the team he had could have been coached by a deaf/blind person, and in new york it was down hill slowly
over the years, and now he is just another one of those fat suits, smoking a cigar, with a silly look on
his face, lots of money in the bank for not doing much, and close to retirement.

Richards was overwhelmed by the attention by many teams, so all he had to do was
sit back and study all of the offers, and take the one that seemed best to him,
he is now set for life, um, I actually think he was before too. lol

Vokoun should be good in washington, I was surprised when he was still available after first day of free
agency.
Gillis has money to spend, and will wait thru the summer now, for a good trade, or even into training
camp when others have gone over their cap space and have to dump 'good' players to become legal.

canucks have lots of healing to do, with many players, I don't expect them to do very well until after
Xmas next season, when everyone is completely healthy, and in game shape, as long as they don't keep having
more injuries, they will be fine second half, and should have another good play off run.

Yes I lost all respect foe him when the Oilers were beating the Canucks like a drum game after game after game and he said to Jim Robson 'if the Canucks ever win I'll be here to do a post game interview'.

Well the inevitable happened and he scuttled from the old Coliseum with his tail between his legs right after the game the rat-and jumped teams shortly thereafter-yes it was long ago but showed his real character.

Did I even mention how much I dislike the man?

Today Ryan Kesler underwent 'hip labral' surgery, and won't be joining the team till after the season
has started.

It was very obvious that he was labouring late in the playoffs, never did return to his great skating
stride, so this news isn't a surprise at all.

I'm wondering why it took so long for the surgery to take place, talloola. It was so obvious he was suffering from something. Would have liked to see him with the team the first time they hit the ice - too bad, I will miss him and wish him a speedy recovery.

Yes, I wondered why they waited so long too. I'm guessing he wanted to spend time with his family, maybe
they went on vacation and got away from the hockey life for awhile, and just had fun together.

Now he has to heal, then work out and do therapy, and get back to top form.

Of course, that would make sense that he would spend time with the family.

I know you'll all be so excited to realize that the first exhibition game is less than 3 weeks away.

twins are back in town, players are starting to skate now, the nights are cooler, so hockey is right
around the corner.

In my comments all thruought the season I mention injuries, and how they play such a
big part of the success or failure.
Hamhuis, samuellson and raymond all exited with serious injuries.

The kesler injury in the san jose series seriously affected his game for the remainder
of the playoffs, and he was not a positive factor again.

The power play was number one during regulation play, but left town early in the playoffs,
so teams didn't worry about getting penalties, canucks couldn't score anyway, so who cares.

The bullying of the boston bruins, in my opinion had nothing to do with losing, but along with
poor officiating, (they got away with everything), added to canucks other problems.

New season, but still they will start off with some players 'still' not back from injuries, so
in my opinion it will be around Xmas when they begin to look like a winning team again.

Thats OK, just the way it is, no one's fault, just part of the game.

It will be interesting to see Hodgson get a steady spot on the team, at least till kesler gets back,
so this is his chance to finally 'show' his talent, as fourth line isn't his strength,
he is a top six forward, lots of talent and very smart, so we'll see how it goes with him.

I enjoy seeing how players gradually fit in with the teams, some new guys will be there, lots of
competition for spots.
