Is it just me, or are the 9/11 commemorations oddly subdued?

Actually, I don’t think it’s me, and it’s not really that odd.

What happened after 9/11 — and I think even people on the right know this, whether they admit it or not — was deeply shameful. The atrocity should have been a unifying event, but instead it became a wedge issue. Fake heroes like Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani, and, yes, George W. Bush raced to cash in on the horror. And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons.

A lot of other people behaved badly. How many of our professional pundits — people who should have understood very well what was happening — took the easy way out, turning a blind eye to the corruption and lending their support to the hijacking of the atrocity?

The memory of 9/11 has been irrevocably poisoned; it has become an occasion for shame. And in its heart, the nation knows it.

I’m not going to allow comments on this post, for obvious reasons.

Reports are that someone dressed as a policeman is randomly shooting people just outside of Oslo right now.

Norway is taking action against a radical Islamic cleric and is involved in the Afghan war. They also reprinted the infamous Mohammed cartoons. So its not a stretch that a radical Muslim extremist is behind the attacks. BTW, I was in Oslo on business just 2 months ago. I was working in the suburbs, but I did stroll around downtown and I recognize the street from the photos.

For what it's worth, to me the point of the article was that this is how this guy feels. Fair enough, he's entitled to his viewpoint as we all are. The way I look at it, it's worth more to me to try to understand why he feels the way he does than to justify why I do or do not exemplify what he's talking about.

The logic of not tarring all members within a group with the same brush holds up no matter what group it is. It has to, if it doesn't then the logic is flawed. But the logic isn't flawed, the logic is static; only the players change.

Difference being these Japanese were Canadian citizens. Yet our government stole their property and sold it,and forced them to move away from their homes into what amounted to concentration camps in the interior.

The 1600 percent increase resulted in 481 "hate crimes" against Muslims......in which NOT ONE died, of which 32 percent were crimes against property..........

In fact, the people most apt to be victims of hate crimes were blacks.........followed by Jews, gay men, and (WAIT FOR IT!) white guys. Yep. White guys. Muslims don't even make the top three. They don't even beat out WHITE guys!!
