Despite President Obama’s repeated claims to change the tone in Washington, the White House had no comment this afternoon after Teamsters Union leader James Hoffa, speaking at an event before President Obama, said of Tea Party activists that, come November, Democrats should “take these sons of bitches out.”

During the 2008 campaign, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., immediately rebuked talk radio host Bill Cunningham when he disparaged then-Senator Obama in his opening remarks at a McCain campaign event. Cunningham had fueled rumors that Obama was Muslim by repeatedly referring to him by his full name “Barack Hussein Obama.”
McCain immediately took responsibility and profusely apologized for Cunningham’s remarks.

Should President Obama do the same regarding Hoffa comments about the Tea Party? The president has repeatedly called for increased civility in American politics. “Only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to the challenges of our nation,” the president said in January.

I don't take politics seriously. Seriously, what purpose does it serve except to deflect attention away from those who really are in power.

In my opinion, the challenge of the so-called 'leader' of the country/free world is to either listen to drivel like that and not have the courage to address and discount it, or, to follow, to concede to the rhetoric. I think he'd garner more respect for calling it what it was.

Lead or follow.

It's (it was yet another chance) Obama's chance to display a 'how to be' demeanor and attitude as opposed to how not to be. Condemn this sort of insanity and lead. Lead the nation, not just his cheerleading section.

The republicans can hurl off just as poisonous and childishly too but they ain't in power at the moment. If Tea Party rallies or the GOP spewed crap like this, it would fill the MSM for weeks. Examples of the hatred toward liberals, the poor, minorities and such.

Time to get a grip Barry. Never mind whether the 'White House' has anything to say or not. Say it yourself. Lead on.

Apparently so. They can't seem to get rid of them no matter how hard they try.

So much so that Hoffa wants to "Take those Sons of B*tches out!". Like father like son.

“take these sons of bitches out.”

Obamas going to have start presenting some clearly focussed policy iniative (like dumping free trade, and reinstituting real progressive taxation).. rather than a lot glib aphorisms.. if he wants to be re-elected. He's being completely outmanoevered by Rick Perry, a major moron in the Ronald Reagan image, who will nitpick him to death with Tea Party libertarian nonsense. The economy is in a dead stall, and the Tea Party is proposing solutions that will put it into a death spiral.. and all Obama can do is waffle.. and sputter.

Not really, it is just fun to watch the liberal left wiggle around a bit, doesn't take much to worry them. I know one person who admits being a dues paying member of the Tea Party.

The Teamsters need real long term jobs as does the country, as I said before not government grants or subsidies.

Yes, Hoffa's son. Jimmy Hoffa, arch enemy of the Kennedy's, eventually was taken for a ride by La Cosa Nostra, shot and chopped up like a side of beef never to be seen again. You knew that right?

It is fun to watch the liberals bounce all over the place. Them saying anything from there is not Tea Party to the Tea Party being the biggest danger to the world.

Yes, proposing taxes is really a great idea heading into a Presidential Election. Good grief.

Nor should the White House Have any comment. The last time I looked America was a
Democratic Nation or did I miss something. Tone or not a Union Rally always features
a rant that pumps up the troops. The sad fact is the Unions are going to be very active
and not very nice despite what Obama or anyone else says. Election years are like that.
Besides some of the more strident unions in the States have a little more guts than these
ones we have in Canada. One thing people don't want to do is cross the United Mine
workers for example, at least not if they are like they were a few decades ago.
The problem is with most people they don't get the connection between rhetoric and action.
Years ago even our politicians of all stripes had some great speakers and orators who
used rhetoric and substance equally well and make politics interesting regardless of what
side we were on. Today most politicians and leader can't string an entire paragraph together.
In the old days, a few decades ago, quick come backs were praised, while sometimes biting
they were not meant to be mean spirited like the are today. I think the worst thing that has
happened though is the left wing politically correct crowd and the religious right have together
made everything shocking, or objectionable. Get a life, is my answer.
I gave a few rhetorical union speeches myself about thirty five years ago when I was a union
president. I called some a few names as well. For those who may be seriously upset, the
tone got the reaction Hoffa was looking for. Hoffa called his opponents SOBs and when
they object they are seen by the membership as SOBs.
But he is not the only one to use such language. In the early sixties during the Steel crisis,
in America, Kennedy let fly with the same term as I recall. The steel companies raised the
price by ten cents a ton. Kennedy was so angry he called a segment of the business community
SOB;s and when the fuss was over the price was rolled back, It was either sixty one or sixty two.
Good ole fashioned rhetoric of man the barricades and your opponents are the enemy is as old
as our young democracy itself. Folks its called class warfare and when jobs get tight it comes
back like a wave across the land.
The unions will soon be on the rise again, I hear the language of organize, I even heard Teamsters
recruitment ads on radio locally. Hard times bring strange things as the cycle rotates once again.
We are of course heading for a serious recession if not worse within the next six months so nothing
surprises me.

True... the WH doesn't have to say anything. But weren't they riding the anti evil rhetoric wave back in January and directed it towards conservatives?

Anyways... Hoffa is a Union thug... just like his dad was.

Whall ... ya. I figured Jimmie wasn't really a lucky name around then, and he wouldn't be coming back anytime soon. I haven't paid a lot of attention to Teamsters stuff in a long time - but the name struck a chord or four

Hopefully he doesn't end up rubbing the wrong person the wrong way, otherwise it really will be like father like son.8O

Being a former teamster member I have it on good authority that Jimmy is holding up the corner of a building in Chicago.

When asked via email by Springfield Intelligencia reporter Turner Brown about which group he wanted his members to target, Mr. Hoffa tweeted this tea party photo.
