My wife will be tickled pink to hear that. She loves shooting and hunting.

My dad was a marksman and had a huge collection of guns. He came back from hunting when I was about 8 and guns were put on the table. Three hunting companions came in with him and were excited about getting the best hunting on the way home.

They always made a habit of unloading and breaking open the guns before coming home. This time they didn't. They were so busy chatting they never noticed me picking up a rifle and aiming it at my mother. I certainly never intended to fire the thing, just wanted to see how it worked. Dad saw what I was doing and tilted the rifle upwards.

I threw up when he broke open the rifle & unloaded it. Never touched a gun since.

So because your dad was a moron, you're now afraid of guns. At least we now know the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

I am a reasonable, sober adult, who is very aware of how dangerous guns are and how a single inattentive moment around one could change life forever.

I have weapons in my home, never loaded in the house, ever. And because my primary safety is always on, my sons would never have touched a weapon without asking, even when they were young. Nor would I have been so stupid to place a loaded weapon, where an ignorant child I didn't raise, could get a hold of it.

So, when I come across those who drive with a gun beside them or sleep with one under their pillow, (and I have come across those who do so) I become very uncomfortable.

No one here does that, unless they're in bear country, or going hunting.

We only hear about those that make the media. When I even think of guns in a household with young and curious children..........I truly shudder. Not everyone is a RESPONSIBLE gun owner. Folks get guns for many many reasons. but offer what they think are acceptable reasons.

In this day and age, there is NO NEED to kill for food . So it becomes a sport. a very deadly sport . If the gun owner and user was the only one to get hurt........so be it. It is the innocent victims that these bozos seldom think about.

but in a bizarre, sick way guns make some feel powerful and manly.

The ownership and use of weapons by the people is not simply a "sport".....it is an expression of one of our oldest and most important freedoms. The simple fact is that weapons are power and, as such, they BELONG in the hands of any free people, unrestrained from undue gov't interference.

Stupid people taking their kids canoeing on a river without life jackets, are ticketed and if their children drown, they can be charged with manslaughter.

The main difference is that the main purpose of a gun is to kill.......not take us from place to place like boats, cars, planes or for making improvements like saws, hammers, screwdrivers or even jackhammers.
