The third world country immigrants that come here and claim they have such great education, you soon find out after working with them for a while that their education is hardly above our high school level here. The university level they claim they achieved is often, again hardly equivalent to our tech schools. In addition, they are not familiar with our design standards, codes, laws or business practices.
You often wind up spending an awful lot of time teaching these people.
Also, they can almost never write a proper report.
Absolutely correct, and particularily correct on abolishing this useless reunification program !!

I agree with you D, that in general education in other countries is substandard to Canadian schooling with a few notable exceptions.
At one time, all education throughout the commonwealth was standardized through to grade12. In Canada, many provinces have since deviated from that standard and also cut education funding. As a result, those countries which maintained the CW standard are delivering better education than Canada. India is an example of a commonwealth country which still follows the original standards. Not everyone in India can afford to send their children to these schools, but anyone graduating from that system in India has a superior education than the equivalent public school education in Canada. Indian doctors, nurses and teachers get about the same quality of training as Canadians because both our countries still follow the same CW standards (more or less) in these areas.
The Japanese school system is second to none regarding rote learning. Canada doesn't come close. But our system nurtures creative thought better, than their system and our students don't have the same level of pressure as Japanese students to succeed. (leading to suicide).
I work in the IT industry and occasionally I rub shoulders with people who have had extremely good IT training. I'd rate computer science graduates of Standard University in California as having the best CS education in the world. A close second is the India Institute of Technology. In general, IIT CS graduates have a better education than graduates from any Canadian university, including the University of Waterloo.
I've heard similar comments about engineers and scientists with degrees in material sciences (chemical, metalurgical...) coming from eastern Europe (Russia, Poland, East Germany...).
But yes in general I would agree with you regarding immigrants from most third world and former east bloc countries.
Bigots will congregate to feel superior. Notice that they don't congregate in ethnic neighbourhoods.
I remember when I first moved to Quesnel. I went into a bar where a bunch of guys were drinking at 2pm on a week day. They were all whining about the rag heads that were stealing their jobs at the mill. I said, "they are working because they are willing to work while you sit in here drinking beer all day and whine, you lazy bozos!"
In general immigrants have a much better work ethic than native born Canadians. Also, the top students in most schools and universities are immigrants or children of immigrants. But that effect only lasts one or two generations.
