Some people get funnier all the time. Why do some people have such a deferential view of the country in relation to the rest of the world? The Canadian inferiority complex at work.
If you won't get a job we'll need immigrants. Have you paid much attention to the aging populus?

I've given a toe to this country and stuck by working with Canadian companies in foreign lands..which toe..?

What foreign lands have you worked in pray tell....
The immigration industry is a mess and a 5yr moratorium is the only answer...but the optics are bad so it ain't gonna happen...

For many, it is no problem having escalating unemployment and huge numbers of immigrants entering the country. They are the psycho white guilt crowd, and only a minority. Multiculturalism is entrenched in the constitution, not immigration. Although the white guilt crowd would say that immigration is an essential component of the validity of multiculturalism. But they can always find another hobbyhorse to beat.

Canadians are quite practical, we demolish buildings quite easily, dated policy will get the wrecking ball too.

Like it or not, the world is becoming one big community and Canada and all other countries will soon be obsolete. The world is coming to our doorstep right now because there is room to move. You keep holding onto the past and you will get steamrollered by change.

Nations won't disappear, that's what the corporate multicultural globalists keep hoping for, but it never happens. Immigration policy for the past 20 years is no act of God, no voice from a burning bush, no thunderbolt from Zeus, just an over optimistic idea-laden with guilt, that has lost steam. The dawning of the age of aquarius never seemed to happen as a result of it. Some can imagine a world without nations, but right now, a pipedream.

A world community of nations, sure. You just don't know, Korea and Japan, for example, will never mesh. Never. Russia and China, ifomclac.

Don't be so sure. When the global economy finally collapses, the saviour, whether a group or individual, will have brought the world to it knees and provide the solution for it. The sheeple will fall in line because they are oblivious to how it all happened in the first place. TV has done a wonderful job of numbing the minds of the masses.

What's the contribution to the economy by immigrants? It's rather large I might think. Our best doctors, dentists, teachers etc are immigrants.
Their contribution probably far exceeds 850 million a year.

The best doctors, dentists et cetera are educated in Canada. Immigrants can attend post sec school for a hefty fee. Doctor and Dentists educated elsewhere have to write the exams and qualify to practice here because our standards are higher than many countries. Teachers are a dime a dozen, but fluent in English (not an immigrant) definitely helps with being the best.

You're missing the big story bro'. Countries around the world are quite strong, and getting stronger. The thought of countries giving up hard won independence without huge and obvious benefits just ain't gonna happen. They are gaining in economic strength and they like it. The sole superpower is fading, and that is good for them. They are tasting success and see no reason why it should stop.

I read in the International Herald Tribune, when George Bush went to Asia, he was totally concerned with security. While Asian nations just couldn't relate, things were booming and thought these were the best of times. And still are.

Plus, the old world has killed hundreds of millions of each other in the past century or two, and they don't forget so easily. Politically separate with them is fine.

Oh that is silly. I had an English teacher in high school who was educated at Oxford. Except for his dark skin you couldn't tell him from any other well educated Englishman. He immigrated from England, where many of our immigrants come from. Besides that, Canada was built by immigrants so some folks are blowing smoke out their butts. Too bad the indians didn't have that attitude in 1492, eh!

Your wrong again, got proof ??

If immigrants were so great for this country, how come we have very few in our military?? Like to take, but not give,,,,,eh!!

I think that landed immigrants can give to the country without taking. Maybe Canada should leave more people on landed immigrant status and give fewer citizenship/passports.

My parents came here in the late-50s and never took Canadian citizenship. My father couldn't because he had pledged allegiance to the Dutch Queen during WW2 and Canada has the British Queen. He couldn't pledge to both, so he remained a landed immigrant until he died. There are advantages to taking this route.

Why does Canada give out passports when landed immigrant status gives Canada benefits without the bigger payout. People can be much more easily expelled if they mess up even a little, for example.
