Perhaps when the world was young and humans were not out-breeding, over-populating, avariciously consuming all available resourses as well as being the dirtiest species this earth has ever had to deal with, that country could possibly recover some semblance of normalcy. LOL.... I am old enough to know the difference between the facts and what the modern spin doctors have done to "real history books".
There is a difference you know from living an experience and reading about it. Perhaps your history books remember the "British Empire or the Roman one." Both now pretty well defunct. Not too many Emperors or Monarchs with the power of those long ago around these days.

Look carefully at those histories and then do a comparison on the ambitions of the politicians on both sides of our border. Thankfully, Canada hasn't the population or the wealth to throw into the world domination scenario. Our present PM may have the ambitions but not the wherewithal. The US has managed for the first time in ages, to elect a President that seems to have a modicum of regard for the welfare of the country's citizens.

Not only did the Liberal Party deploy the troops, Jean (the Don) Chretien waited so long to get involved in fulfilling the terms of our NATO and mutual defense treaties with the USA that the only area left to deploy was around Kandahar..........in the worst area of Afghanistan. Then he sent troops without proper weapons, without proper vehicles, without even properly camouflaged uniforms.

You know, he need a couple of new Dash aircraft to run around in instead......100 million bucks charged out to the military.

In reality the rash of pistols that hit the streets were stolen by an employee of a Canadian gun manufacturer. He did the Johnny Cash thing and did it one piece at a time assmblying and selling over 700 weapons directly to Jamaican gangs.

Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty.......in the first place, you have some problems with consistency.......you complain that the United States is a war-monger, and has constantly been involved in foreign wars........then in the next breath you complain that they were neutral until attacked in World War Two.......engaging in trade with both sides, as neutrals are wont to do.

And BTW, the sympathies of the USA were obviously with the British people in that war.....they loaned the Brits weapons long before their entry, and Churchill and Roosevelt were engaged in constant communication on how to best aid the allied side......and the USN was engaged in anti-submarine operations in the Atlantic BEFORE Dec. 7, 1941.

A Mississauga man who ran an illegal gun factory in his basement "like he was selling suits" has received a seven-year prison sentence.

While police never proved the weapons that Zoltan Balatoni made from parts he stole from the Para-Ordnance gun factory in Scarborough, ended up being used in serious crimes; crown prosecutor Brian McGuire told Balatoni's sentencing hearing this week, there was no doubt Balatoni's salesmen sold his home-built weapons to criminals.

"He produced illegal handguns as if he was selling suits," McGuire said. Balatoni, he said, was "motivated by greed."
The court heard that each weapon fetched about $500 on the street.

Police testified during the hearing that guns similar to those built by Balatoni have been responsible for numerous crimes throughout Greater Toronto, including murders, attempted murders and armed bank robberies.

Detective Mark Johnstone of the Joint-forces Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit, which investigated Balatoni, testified that since 1992, officers have recovered 224 Para-Ordnance handguns at crime scenes. Para-Ordnance is Canada's only handgun manufacturer.

He said 130 of them had no serial numbers, similar to the weapons that Balatoni had been manufacturing and selling from his Bristol Rd. residence. Johnstone said these untraceable weapons were ideal for criminals.

The Hungarian-born Balatoni, 48, was one of seven people arrested in November, 2001, following an extensive probe by U.S. and Canadian law enforcement agencies investigating the illegal trafficking of weapons.

The exact number of weapons built and sold by Balatoni isn't known, but the court heard that more than 40 guns that were bought by undercover officers and informants had come from Balatoni's basement factory.

In the agreed statement of facts filed in a Brampton court, Balatoni admitted the weapons had been assembled in the basement of his Bristol Rd. home, using parts smuggled out of the Para-Ordnance factory before they had been stamped with serial numbers. Investigators found that some of the guns appeared to have been ground down to make it look as if serial numbers had been removed.

Balatoni was convicted by Superior Court Justice Fletcher Dawson of conspiracy and possession to traffic in firearms, trafficking in prohibited devices (high-capacity magazines), possession of firearms, knowing they were obtained by crime, and possession of firearms, knowing the serial numbers had been altered, defaced or removed.

With Balatoni's sentencing, the crown withdrew all charges against his wife, Maria Markowska. She had originally been charged with possessing high-capacity magazines and firearm frames.
