I haven't been following the east coast side of things. What is he proposing?
Nothing, he's the multi millionaire that owns a refinery, and a string of gas stations all along the east coast.

One the biggest is gas companies claim, causes high gas prices, is transportation.

Irving oil is right on the coast, he has his own ports, at his refinery, and yet a block away, they pay some of the highest prices in Canada. So much so, that the NS gov't, put a cap on the price of fuel.

I saw on CBC newsworld that NS is going to invoke some clause that will force the rollback of gas prices. Anyone know what this clause is and how it is used?

I'm assuming that it's like the one in NB.

In New Brunswick, the retail price is set based on the wholesale price at the New York rack, every Wednesday night, plus a set magin for transportation and retail markup. But there is an 'upset' clause, so that if the wholesale price changes by more than, I think it's 8 cents/litre, the regulated retail price can be changed that day (at midnight).

I would guess that NS has a similar mechanism in place, but I haven't bothered to check.

The NDP say the explanation, that hasn't been given yet, isn't good enough.

Irving is a crook.

Which Irving do you mean, and why do you say he's a crook?

What, exactly, has 'he' done that makes you think he's a crook?

The Irvings, crooked? No, sorry. Maybe they are bullies and very greedy, but I don't think they are crooked.

Arthur doesn't own the refinery, but he's one of the people that do.

As for your comment about high gas prices in NS, that's not where the refinery is located. And by the way, last week, we had the lowest prices in Canada.

Do you know how the gas price is set here?
Do you know where the gasoline from that refinery goes?
Do you know anything about the Irving family, and doing business with them?

I'll take a stab at those questions.

Do you know how the gas price is set here?
In NS is not regulated as far as I know and is set by A) Taxes and B) Individual merchants.
Do you know where the gasoline from that refinery goes?
Almost all of it goes outside of Atlantic Canada, because it produces way more gas than we could ever use.
Do you know anything about the Irving family, and doing business with them?
Yes, anyone that has taken an economics course in Atlantic Canada should know quite a bit, and everyone else should at least know something about them. Basically they are a family business (not publicly traded) and they buy businesses related to their current businesses; lumber and oil are their two main but certainly not only operations. That's them in one sentence, but obviously very vague.

If a person has no qualms about being a bully and greedy, why would he/she have qualms about being crooked?

Because according to their regulatory affairs department, throwing your weight around in business, and being greedy, are not illegal. Crooked probably is.

Wrong. Nova Scotia | Consumer Information | Petroleum Gas Price Regulation | Diesel Fuel

What does NS have to do with it?

When the massive heavy oil network is complete in 2016 and Irving is surrounded by competition who don't import oil and won't have to deal with up coming heavy import tarriffs and supply issues we'll see how they fair then.

If I lived on the coast I'd prefer my oil coming from inland from my own country.

Guess where the first oil from offshore Newfoundland was refined?

I think I'm going to buy one of these.....

I won't burn it in my vehicles. I'll sell it for $20 a litre and buy gasoline.
