It's clear that this was a political tactic that Harper used because he knew that gas would go up ahead of time. It was a little insurance to help keep the conservative party moving along in the event that they lost minority status to the NDP.

Now that the tables have turned, it's obvious how much he's willing to lie to the public.

Explain this in more detail, what do you mean?

He blamed a future gas price increase on an NDP majority because he knew gas prices would rise just after the election anyway.

It was a politrick.

Well what he really said is that in order for the Government to pay for all the promises the NDs were making, the Government would have to raise the tax on gas to pay for all these promises.

You will notice the tax on gas has not changed .

No, he said gas prices would raise by 10 cents a liter.

And then gas prices raised by 10 cents a liter.

The fact that the price raised while the tax remained the same only reinforces the fact that it wasn't the NDP mandate that caused it, lol

Harper (correctly)commented that the gas prices would rise if an NDP was elected due to their policy statements relative to cap/trade (or carbon tax) and limiting activity in the oil sands.

I doesn't take a genius to figure out that those NDP policies would translate into an increase in teh cost of a bbl and therefore the cost at the pumps.

Yes, but that wouldn't be an immediate 10 cent hike like Harper stated. And that's what we got regardless. Awareness of such a specific quantum was something he tried to use to his advantage.

In fact he even went so far to state that there would be a 10 cent increase in the 'early days'.

I can't comment directly on Harper's quote, however, I believe that people are stretching the significance of $0.10... It is now morphing into conspiracy theory.

On PEI, the price of gas is 6 cents cheaper than my last fill. A pleasant surprise.

ROFLMFAO, I see one of the few intelligent Harper supporters is conspicuously absent from the post Harper win part of this thread. Kudos to Bear. As for the rest of you Harper supporters that have continued on in here, the only thing you are doing is showing your blind support for the man, and your complete inability for independent thought.

Fact: Harper stated that a Layton/NDP government would mean an immediate hike in gas prices. Fear mongering at it's finest.

Fact: Within a month of Harper getting a majority we see a hike of over 10 cents a liter in gas.

Now, when Bear and I were "arguing" this out earlier in this thread, I had said that any increase would have NOTHING to do with Layton, he disagreed. I then put it to him that if Harper received a majority government and increase was to happen then, by conservative supporter thinking, it would be Harpers fault. Bear agreed. Now I see the supporters of Harper are saying that the increase has NOTHING to do with the government.

So, tell me, are you all going to admit now that Harper was lieing and fear mongering to try and put the brakes on the NDP's meteoric rise?

At least somebody sees how the system works.

Every spring right on schedule fuel prices rise as farms start gobbling up fuel in HUGE quantities. This is a market known. It was used against the masses in a very clever way.
