Can you imagine what a trial of Osama bin Laden would involve. They likely would have had to build a special fortress like those Italy built for its Mafia trials. The Defense would trot out a long history of American duplicity in the Middle East, and 'collateral damages' in pursuit of its Imperial interests.
It would be an ongoing incentive to further terrorism, through his execution, that would last years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars. A double tap, one to the heart, one to head, was just the simpler and quicker solution. The final outcome would have been the same.
