The Liberal party was screwed up to start with. They never cleaned house like they should have after Martin was voted out. Instead they fudged it and tried to quick start their fortunes by taking short cuts and not dealing with the problems in the party that caused them to lose a forth term as government.

Iggy is just the fall guy for it. There are still all kinds of things that need to be sorted out in the Liberal party but once that is done, I suspect the right wing coalition will crumble and the NDP will return to the left as the Liberals take back the middle of the road.

It's going to take time to do right and I hope that this is what we can give to make it happen.

Ignatieff was a power crazy idiot, who did everything possible to destroy the Liberal Party. He would do ANYTHING, literally ANYTHING to try to gain power. Twice, he made agreements with both the NDP and the Bloc, guaranteeing them positions in his government, if they would bring down the Conservative government and get another election.

How many millions of dollars did he cost Canada with his manipulations?

How many people that might have been inclined to vote Liberal, turned against them because of this naked grab for power?

He, and the fools that allowed him to get his meglomania going, deserved exactly what happened to them. Canada is far better off without leadership that is so intent on bringing down another party that they will do ANYTHING to bring that about. Including making alliances with a party who's only real goal is the destruction of Canada.

While I don't like Iggy or the Liberal party,....to be fair, I don't think he attempted anything illegal or something that has never been done in the past......

Ignatief was likely the most intelligent leader the Liberals have ever had but he was no politician. Ignatief is a man who universities
all over the world tried to hire. Harvard would have glady taken him back. He chose the University of Toronto.....Good for Toronto.
No matter how the idiots want to spin this, Ignatief was never trying to destroy anything. We weren't ready for a man of Ignatief's caliber. I suggest this writer do some reading.

Ever met any academics?

Intelligence is far from a defining factor in ones fitness for high office, a friend of mine is brilliant, the brightest man I ever met, also a retired professor of History.....he lives in a tumbledown shack in the woods with three cats, two dogs, and a couple of rifles.

Brilliant guy.

I bore Ignatieff no ill will, I had great hopes for him when I reviewed his opinions and writing in the USA......but he drank the poison kool-aid of big L Liberalism, and became f eckless, without principle, without focus.

He did come to Canada expecting to be made PM after an absence of 30 plus years, he did NOT expect to pay his dues, he expected to be simply coronated, as he was as leader of the Party......that is the absolute epitome of arrogance, the LAST thing the Liberals were lacking.......

He belongs in academia, and I'm glad he chose to stay in Canada, he will be a credit to the U of T......just keep him out of politics.

Now maybe the Liberal Party can address the things that have undercut and diminished them over the last 30 years..........and fix themselves.

I honestly hope so. I need an alternative....and the NDP are just silly......

(hilarious, the program censored the word "f eckless", so I had to insert a space!)

It seems that Ignatieff thought we weren't ready for his "calibre" either. Over the course of his attempted political career he flip flopped on a lot of principles and positions he stated in his previous academic career. He reduced a nuanced political philosophy to the McSoundbite of popular politics.

By suggesting we do some reading, I assume you have done it yourself? Having read Michael Ignatieff's work before he became a politician, I can tell you that I would never be ready for a man of his "calibre". I don't have to make what I'm referring to explicit do I? We are two people who have "done the reading", yes? We can just nod knowingly? You support that kinda thing, eh? OK, I'll try not to forget it.

Ignatieff understands the utility of torture in the monolithic western financial security complex, I guess. I heard someone say that a few years ago, so I wasn't in a hurry to educate myself further aboot the guy seeing as how the entire staff of that complex seems to be stuffed with the same type. I hope someday that Canada pays proper attention to education. Is UofT some kind of retirement home for aged celebrity academics? Didn't UofT pick up that lunatic scientist Hawkings last year?

"Michael Ignatieff becomes professor."

I feel sorry for the parents of his students. So much money spent for so little value!

What a step down.

He never should have done the classic blunder, which is think Canadians would get on it with an IQ above that of a Beaver.

He was educated in the way how Americans tap intelligence to stay in charge.

I can already hear his mother nagging him how stupid it was to trust a bunch of Canadians.

In case thine didn't know, Canada was one of the three nations to hold the nuclear secret at the end of WW-II, because PM King said they had to say what they were up to to get the Saskatchewan Uranium.

Obviously Canada would have found it strategically wise to hold its head down while the US and Britain went nuts on bombs while Canucks used their new-earned technology intelligently, such that there's no way anyone would ever talk about how in 1966 it was shut up about how the Candu reactor could kick out enough plutonium byproduct to be stored up in a place in the Canadian shield in order for if required there be enough fissile material to build 1500 Hiroshima bombs in one f-cking week if an industrial nation having among it's population metallurgists capable of casting perfect hemispheres of plutonium.

How many of you have watched as the good-hearted of you left generation after generation when you were the settlers willing to fight mosquitoes in Winnipeg.

I really got pissed off when a baby nazi like Harper got in charge, but we still have one out...

Loyalty to the Queen.

She can kick his ass out if we ask.
