Can you point out specifically where, better yet quote, where Hamas admits using human shields? I skimmed it quickly and didn't see anything.

See the video posted in post 177 below where, in 2008 (I believe) a Hamas minister brags about using the civilian population as shields.

Hamas admits the use of human shields, as seen below.

They also admit the figure of civilian versus military deaths is exactly as Israel has claimed.....one TENTH the level expected in modern conflict.

SPME: Fathi Hamad, the Hamas administration's interior minister, revealed that as many as 700 Hamas military-security operatives were killed during Operation Cast Lead. The number, consistent with Israel's examination, is significantly higher than th

The Challenge of Feeding a Family in Gaza

This is a guest blog post from Rania Elhilou, Communications Officer at ANERA – Gaza City.

December, 2010: Randa Al-Jarousha has seven children. Her husband is jobless. He used to work in construction but he got sick and lost his job. Even if he gets better, his chances of finding another construction job are slim since building materials are in short supply.

Most days, Randa sends her son to school without breakfast and relies on the fortified snacks offered in the Milk for Preschoolers program run by ANERA.

"At least I know my son Mohammed can get milk and biscuits every day. Milk is too expensive for me now and I can't afford to give him protein-rich food like eggs or meat."...

...mothers resort to diluting the milk with a lot of water, which might satisfy their youngster's thirst but not his nutritional intake. Fresh milk at $2.70 a liter is beyond most budgets.

I now see children scavenging in the garbage to collect plastic bottles and other bits and pieces that they can sell in the market to help their parents buy food...

Anyone who supports what Israel's humanitarian aid blockade, aka crime against humanity, are pretty cruel and callous.

BTW, I am aware of several cases where Palestinian civilians helped militants escape capture or prevented Israel from destroying a building by turning up enmasse and using their bodies as human shields. I never said I supported these efforts either.

While people voluntarily putting themselves in harms way and soldiers abducting young children and forcing them at gun point to check for explosives or block bullets are both examples of human shields, they are in fact completely different acts. One action involves extreme courage and the other involves extreme cowardice. Its sort of like the difference between throwing yourself on a grenade to save your buddies and throwing a buddy on a grenade to save yourself.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

EAO, you get more ludicrous by the second.

Hamas hides among the population, and ADMITS it! Even HAMAS does not expect people to swallow the BS you constantly stream forth as truth. And my source was NOT SPME, but the Interior Minister of HAMAS, one Fathi Amad........as reported in numerous media outlets...look it up.

Then argue with HAMAS about the facts...

Palestinian women shot dead in Gaza mosque siege

Israeli troops shot dead two women acting as human shields between soldiers and gunmen holed up in a mosque, and bombarded the Gaza Strip with air strikes on Friday, witnesses said.

A wounded Palestinian woman lies on the ground as others run for cover after an Israeli tank opened fire at them at Beit Hanoun town in northern Gaza strip, November 3, 2006. [Reuters]

During one of its bloodiest assaults since it withdrew in 2005 after 38 years of military rule, Israel killed at least 17 Palestinians in Gaza on Friday, about half of them civilians.

In the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun about 50 veiled women, answering an appeal broadcast on radio, marched on a mosque where about 60 Palestinian gunmen were sheltering, to act as cover against Israeli troops.

Reuters television footage showed Israeli forces opening fire and one of the women fall dead. At least 10 were wounded. The Israeli army said it had fired at armed Palestinians and was investigating whether it had also shot the women.

The gunmen, including some from the Islamist group Hamas which heads the Palestinian government, managed to flee the Beit Hanoun mosque. Moments later, its roof collapsed.

"We are very cautious about the issue of harming anyone uninvolved," a senior Israeli military source said of the mosque shootings. "I think overall the operation is very successful. We will check to see if there was something wrong." ...

The above are examples of human shields. But the people volunteered to act as human shields...

Compare the above examples of human shields with this case:

November 26, 2010

(Jerusalem) - An Israeli military court's sentence on November 21, 2010, for two soldiers found guilty of using a Palestinian boy as a "human shield" during the 2008-09 offensive in Gaza appears inadequate considering the gravity of the offense, Human Rights Watch said today.

"The slap on the wrist for these soldiers is another slap in the face for the victims of violations during Operation Cast Lead," said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. "Not only do these sentences seem unjustifiably lenient, but two years later, they are the only sentences Israel has handed down for serious human rights violations among the many alleged during the Gaza offensive."...

... demoted two staff sergeants to the rank of sergeant and gave them suspended three-month sentences, sends a dangerous signal that the Israeli military justice system will not seriously sanction soldiers convicted for offenses that are war crimes under international law...

... the two staff sergeants... separating nine-year-old Majed R. from his mother and ordering him at gunpoint to open bags suspected of containing booby-trapped bombs in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, south of Gaza City, on January 15, 2009...
Israel: Soldiers? Punishment for Using Boy as ?Human Shield? Inadequate | Human Rights Watch

All three cases above are examples of human shields. And we can see by the suspended sentence how serious the Israeli military takes using Palestinian children as human shields.

A far more serious crime is stealing a Palestinian credit card.

Meanwhile, Gaza's malnutrition and disease problems are a deliberate effect of Israel's humanitarian aid embargo:
OPT: Signs of worsening malnutrition among children

GAZA CITY, 21 April 2009 (IRIN) -Rising poverty, unemployment and
food insecurity in Gaza, compounded by the recent 23-day Israeli
offensive, have increased the threat of child malnutrition, say UN
agencies, health ministry officials and healthcare NGOs in Gaza.

UN World Health Organization (WHO) officials are concerned by the
warning signs, including rising malnutrition indicators - like increased
cases of stunting, wasting and underweight children - and continuing
high rates of anaemia among children and pregnant women....

... 10.3 percent of children under five are stunted (low height for age), a steadily increasing trend over recent years...The number of under-five children suffering from acute malnutrition -
wasting (low weight for height) - in Gaza almost doubled between 2006
and 2008 from 1.4 to 2.4 percent, according to UNICEF...

Yet they have to ask the international community (Turkey foremost to those that like irony LOL) to help put out a pine forest fire. Poor allocation of resources in the extreme.
They did not have to ask Turkey, Turkey volunteered.

Turkey, Greece and others came to Israel's aid Friday in combating a deadly forest fire outside of Haifa, sending firefighting aircraft over what has become the worst fire disaster in Israel's history. The fire, which started Thursday, has claimed at least 42 lives and forced the evacuation of 17,000 Israelis. Israeli officials said the fire wouldn't be brought under control until Saturday afternoon at the earliest...

During Operation Cast Lead (27 Dec 2008 - 18 Jan 2009), 571 rockets and 205 mortar shells landed in Israeli territory. Magen David Adom personnel treated and evacuated a total of 770 casualties: 4 fatalities, 4 severely wounded, 11 moderately and 167 lightly wounded. An additional 584 persons suffered from shock and anxiety syndrome.

Let me get this straight. Israel invaded Palestinian territory, bombed, shelled and otherwise shot the crap out of it, killed all kinds of innocent civilians and you are upset that the Palestinians fired back. Am I missing something here? It seems to me that if someone invaded the US and bombed, shelled and otherwise shot the crap out of your homes, you would be shooting back, no?

If Israel didn't want Hamas firing rockets and mortars at them, then they should have abided by the agreed terms of the ceasefire:

Israel agrees to Gaza ceasefire
Hamas says it is fully committed to the agreement

Israel has approved a ceasefire to end months of bitter clashes with the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in Gaza, Israeli officials have confirmed....According to a breakdown of the truce released by Hamas, Israel will ease its restrictions for the trade of certain goods between Gaza and Israel on Friday morning, and open up the crossings for all commercial goods next week....

But Israel never opened up the border once as per the agreed terms of the ceasefire. In fact getting people, good and services in and out of Gaza became more difficult during the ceasefire.

Chronology: Which Side Violated the Israel-Gaza Ceasefire?
...November 5, 2008
... The killing of six Palestinian militants in Gaza by Israeli forces in a ground incursion and air strikes on 4 November was followed by a barrage of dozens of Palestinian rockets on nearby towns and villages in the south of Israel. The Palestinian attacks (in response) caused no casualties or damage...The ceasefire has brought enormous improvements in the quality of life in Sderot and other Israeli villages near Gaza, where before the ceasefire residents lived in fear of the next Palestinian rocket strike. However, nearby in the Gaza Strip the Israeli blockade remains in place and the population has so far seen few dividends from the ceasefire. Since June 2007, the entire population of 1.5 million Palestinians has been trapped in Gaza, with dwindling resources and an economy in ruins. Some 80 percent of the population now depend on the trickle of international aid that the Israeli army allows in.

November 14, 2008
The Israeli army has completely blocked the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian aid and medical supplies to the Gaza Strip for more than a week..

"Exterminate all the Brutes": Gaza 2009

...Israel imposed severe restrictions on Gaza in June 2007, after Hamas won elections and took control of the coastal enclave after winning elections there the previous year, and the government has long said that the aim of the blockade is to stem the flow of weapons to militants in Gaza.
Last week, after Israeli commandos killed nine volunteers on a Turkish-organized Gaza aid flotilla, Israel again said its aim was to stop the flow of terrorist arms into Gaza.
However, in response to a lawsuit by Gisha, an Israeli human rights group, the Israeli government explained the blockade as an exercise of the right of economic warfare.
"A country has the right to decide that it chooses not to engage in economic relations or to give economic assistance to the other party to the conflict, or that it wishes to operate using 'economic warfare,'" the government said.

These are not light causalities and Israel had every right to do what they did to stop Hamas.
One group is even classified as being 'light'. So out of 770 causalities some 762 needed no first aid above a bandage. The vast majority (584) required no bandages, Israel would seem to have to acknowledge those same injuries in Gaza, that would put their causalities at over 1.4 million.

If Israel didn't want Hamas firing rockets and mortars at them, then they should have abided by the agreed terms of the ceasefire:

Don't forget the charts that show there was only an increase in 'goods' for one of those 6 months, a breach of the cease-fire by Israel all through that time period.

The 2008 ceasefire slowed rocket and mortar attacks to a trickle until November 5, 2008 when the IDF violently invaded and attacked Gaza, killing several members of Hamas.

You can read the details here:

An Unnecessary War
By Jimmy Carter
Thursday, January 8, 2009
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/07/AR2009010702645.html

Up until the November 5, 2008 IDF attack, Hamas was not blamed for a single rocket or mortar attack and arrested anyone who attempted to violate the ceasefire on their side. I fail to see what more Hamas could have done to keep up their end of the agreement. I'm sure people living near Gaza on the Israeli side noticed the ceasefire.

On the Gaza side of the border, the blockade remained in full force during the entire period of relative calm. I doubt people on the Gaza side of the border noticed a difference in their situation during the ceasefire until Israel's blatant violation on November 5, 2008, which effectively ended the ceasefire.

This web page gives a first hand perspective of the situation by a Quaker who has done humanitarian work in Gaza:

The Causes of the Catastrophe in Gaza: Why and How Did the Ceasefire End?
By Dr. Fred Bush, January 18, 2009

Our newspapers and TV news have been filled with reports of the horrible effects of Israel’s inhumane and unconscionable attack on the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, in the course of which the Israeli military destroyed or badly damaged their homes, places of worship, schools, universities, factories, fishing boats, police stations - in short, everything that sustains civilized and orderly life.

It was, and is, a catastrophe.

The Israeli government justifies its attack by claiming that (1) Israel had no choice but to attack in response to the barrage of Hamas rockets fired from Gaza into Israel over the past eight years, and (2) only Hamas violated the six-month ceasefire and on Dec. 19th only Hamas refused to re-institate it. Thus, only Hamas bears responsibility for what happened....

The Causes of the Catastrophe in Gaza
Dr. Fred Bush starts with the Israeli narrative and how only that side was reported in our news. Then he presents the facts as he saw them while in Gaza and as per reports by humanitarian aid groups in Gaza. He then draws conclusions based on the facts. If you don't believe his statements, he provides references to the humanitarian reports and you can check the facts for yourself....

Here are his conclusions:
...Finally, given the fact that Israel had not only not met the most important obligation that the cease fire imposed upon her, namely the easing of the blockade, but had in fact virtually sealed the strip, so that conditions in Gaza had become unimaginable, on December 19th, Hamas decided that to continue the ceasefire was pointless.

Yet, according to the Israeli press, as late as December 23rd, 4 days before Israel began her bombing campaign, Yuval Diskin, the head of the Israeli security service Shin Bet, “told the Israeli cabinet that Hamas is interested in continuing the truce, but wants to improve its terms.” Diskin explained that Hamas was requesting two things: an end to the blockade, and an Israeli ceasefire on the West Bank. The cabinet - eager to appear tough with elections coming in February - rejected these terms.

Clearly, as this study has shown, the cause of the current catastrophe has far more to do with Israel’s refusal to relieve the injurious and inhumane blockade of the Gaza Strip than it does with Hamas’ refusal to control the rockets fired into Israel. For Hamas has demonstrated that, with sufficient incentive, it can control the rockets. Israel, however, has demonstrated its unwillingness to allow the people of Gaza a life worth living. Until Israel is willing to end the occupation and to grant the Palestinians their own state - a state with such dimensions and character that they do indeed have a life worth living, there will be no peace for either side in this tragic conflict...
The Causes of the Catastrophe in Gaza

I believe actions speak louder than words. Hamas's actions indicate they wanted a ceasefire as per the agreed terms. Israel's actions indicate they wanted a unilateral ceasefire and never had any intention to uphold their side of the ceasefire agreement. Israel never lifted the humanitarian aid blockade and the so called "ceasefire" never stopped Israel from continuing to attacking Gaza. By their ceasefire violating actions, Israel's leaders have indicated clearly that they have no interest in ending the humanitarian aid blockade or their attacks on the people of Gaza.

Here is where this conflict is now:

Israel's humanitarian aid blockade is in its 4th year and continues to cause a man made plague and famine conditions in Gaza. Israel's ongoing crime against humanity has made Gaza one of the poorest and most desperate places on the planet.

The level of attacks by both sides are about where they where before the ceasefire.

Point 1: Jimmy Carter is an idiot. You did pay some attention to his term as president? He obviously has NO concept of the use of military power......that's why Americans spent 444 days of his presidency in captivity in Iran, and were released the DAY Ronnie Reagan was sworn in. He should have stuck to carpentry.

Point 2: The Hamas killed by Israel were in the process of digging tunnels into Israel....in other words, the Israelis intervened into an attack. I know, I know, those damned Jews just don't line up for the slaughter like they used to.........but look, it gives you SO much to whine about.

Point 3: Considering the Hamas killed were militants on assignment, Hamas could have simply complained and not upped the firing of missiles....they were looking for a fight....a mistake with Israel.....and rightfully so.
