I'm quite accepting of different people with different beliefs and cultural backgrounds..... I am not accepting of people who try and force their beliefs and views on other people as if it's their right.

Those who force women to wear the burqa against their will are people I do not accept...... and those who force women to not wear the burqa against their free will or they face legal punishment I do not accept either.... and those people on both sides of the debate are of the same frame of mind.

In other words, those who put these women in the middle of this stink and feel it's their right to make decisions for them about banning the Burqa without asking them are just as bad as the people who are forcing them to wear the Burqa or face punishment.

You and others can get all up on your high horsed and think you're doing the more moral thing and protecting people, but all you're doing is adding more to the oppression...... and that's what I am against.

If a woman freely chooses to wear a Burqa, for whatever reasons they deem fit, then they should be allowed..... anybody who forces them to wear one against their will should be the one's punished and charged..... it's as simple as that.

You can believe anything you want. I am just pointing out your ignorance and arrogance. But please don't think you maintain a moral superiority because of your place of birth.

That's ok, because when I read your posts, all that comes into my head is:

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.........

How clever from the prodigal son. You type reams of repetitive nonsense and somehow you think many admire you for it.

Kinda lame you gotta abuse the post rating system like a little child - guess who
No need to guess Prax, only you could be so blind to the fact that I'm not abusing anything. That was you, when you gave me a negative rep, in retaliation.

I give thumbs up and thumbs down all the time. I even give thumbs up to people whose posts are in direct contradiction to mine. You know why? Because they didn't just spew out the silly and childish hot air like you do. You know, like screaming ignorance, intolerance and bigotry straight off, while you lump everyone into your preconceived notion of what you think they are, they actually put some thought into it. Try that some time and you likely won't get so many thumbs down.

The way i see it if the Quran doesnt force women to wear the burkha than there is no religous excuse. If i covered my face when i went to the store to buy smokes id be in hand cuffs, i dont like the double standard

The trick is to use face coverings that look like medical bandages.

Or better yet, one of those latex masks that they use in movies. :D

This is definitely scary:

I am an immigrant. It never occurred to me to impose the ways of my old country on Canadians. Mind you, I came before the Charter and so I placed responsibilities and obligations to rights, and I always had enough decency to to know that when you are in Rome, do as the Romans do.

If only recent immigrants learned to show the same respect to the country that gave them a new home!!

Thats because you are more or less white male, therefore it is alright to discriminate against you.
If I worked in a store or a bank and anyone came in with their face completely covered I would push the panic button before they finished opening the door.

Thats because you are not a lefty that feels he has to apologize for every real or imagined misdeed done by white men in the last 400 years. I bet you never got welfare for a year when you came here either.

"I bet you never got welfare for a year when you came here either."

You are right, taxslave. I collected $27.00 a week, while I picked tobacco for seven weeks way back in 1963. I used my savings to go back to high school as an adult student.

Welfare? My pride and self-respect was never low enough for that.

lol That's exactly wifey's point in posting the pics, I think.
Anyway, for some women it's fashion. For some it is a necessity. Either way it's another area where religion has been used to contort an issue.

Good ol' under the table illegal money. Nice! Much much better than legal freebies.

I only have to look into my wife's eye to what she is thinking.

Even if she had one eye showing I'd still know my fate for making tortillas on her new ceramic top stove.

We know a couple who kept the plastic sheet from the cardboard container it was shipped in on their couch and only removed it when company came. They still wouldn't let anyone sit on it, though.

You know what's ironic about this whole issue?

It's that there are two passages in the Quran upon which are based the tradition of hijab.

The first one simply says that women are not supposed to walk around with bare breasts.

The second one says that Muslim women are supposed to dress in an anonymous, non-attention getting way.

It was from a time when Muslims were still in a minority, and would get picked on by others.

If a Muslim guy was harassed, he was expected to stand his ground and defend himself, but that was not expected of women, so they were advised to dress in a way where *nobody would be able to tell they were Muslim* so they could go to the marketplace without being hassled.

Somehow over time the meaning and intent of that passage got turned around so that now, when Muslim women go out in public, they're basically being expected to should out loud with their attire that they are Muslim... exactly the *opposite* of the intention of the policy as stated in the Quran.

It means if the French were to get some lawyers on the ball, they should have no trouble shooting down arguments the Muslims might have against a ban on full burka - which is obviously a security issue for people like bank tellers - in so long as the Muslims are required to base their arguments on the Quran.
