all of those smiling idiots on the home hardware commercial

and now that I think about it, ALL of the actors on
commercials who look us 'straight' in the eye, and lie,
as they don't give a flying f*** about any of the products
they talk about, and the public sit there and suck it all
in.
It makes me sick.

Most despicable character on TV? Thankfully he appears on TV so rarely:

Minnesota Senator - who got his seat by cheating, lying and corruption - the former totally unsuccessful comedian - Al Franken. Just ask gopher!

I don't watch much conventional TV, prefering PBS, SCN, Knowledge, Nature, etc. However, during the Olympics CTV chose Rod Black to commentate during the skating events and some of the comments he made were absolutely sickening. So he gets my vote for most despicable.

I second that.

Being the spokesman for such a horrible and despicable organization as Foster Parents Plan of Canada really makes Rod Black the most despicable person.

You two must have learned your hate from Keith Olbermann.

As I wrote here during the Olympics, I wish that Rod had gone back to Africa to save the kids, he is so much better at that then at broadcasting - and he was simply outrageous as a commentator for the games. I might add that I found most of the CTV/TSN commentators totally insufferable but he was by far the worst.

Who is this Keith Oberman :?:

Personally I'd say guys like Maury and Jerry Springer.

Either one gives the US a good image.

Makes the entire country look like a bunch of retarded red necks.....couldn't be further from the truth for the most part.

Don't get discouraged - I agree with you about Olbermann - but I dislike most of the newscasters or pretend ones on television - the more outrageous they are the
higher their ratings soar - they have no interest in delivery of honest reportage - only spreading alarm and attention for ratings.

When I first moved to California and had a job with an NBC affiliate the Federal
Standards and Practices for Broadcasting were our Bible - not so much any more - in fact I wonder if there is still an agency operating at all - it might be buried in all the other 'good intentions' of public information responsibility. The networks certainly don't pay it any attention and if they still have to pay fines, no doubt it doesn't stop them or their staffers from breaking many of the rules of good journalism.

I enjoy reality programming because it is a new "invention" which I find an interesting study of human interaction - whether directed or not - because people in these shows are not trained to "act" and they are a great source of learning for
me to see how various situations affect regular people (well as regular as these people are allowed to be).

I find television great company as I am often housebound depending upon the situation with the pollen and purity of the air around me and while I love to read books - sometimes the noise of a television program becomes good entertainment
for me too. I am limited in my time outside and can't have an active outside life as other people enjoy it.

The Housewives programs are really in the ditch aren't they? I can't believe these people want to show how awful they are - unless the producers goad them into their ugliness....

YukonJack

Yup I agree Bill Maher is despicable - he offers nothing constructive - only hate and tearing others up for the viewers - but I guess there is an audience who appreciates this kind of "reporting"....

I think it's a little of both the producers goading them on and their natural competitiveness amongst one another - or is that one in the same. I don't know all of their backgrounds, but I gather that all of them are rather ambitious.

Catherine from the Febreze ad. If she needs to hide the smells of the houses she sells with gallons of Febreze instead of actually cleaning the houses ....

How long before she has to trade her left tit for that fresh smell?

Well I've never seen the show (not even sure I could pick it up on my Free to Air) but I have heard of him and apparently some people consider him vile..........

Why Dr. Oz can say anything and keep his medical license

It's been known for years that Dr. Mehmet Oz uses his television show to promote medical care that does not work, everything from bunk weight-loss prescriptions to homeopathy. News outlet after news outlet have outlined his many sins against science.

As Sen. Claire McCaskill, who dragged Oz up to Capitol Hill for a hearing last week, told him: "The scientific community is almost monolithic against you in terms of the efficacy of those three products that you called miracles."

This all raises the question: why does Dr. Oz still get to call himself a doctor? Oz has maintained his medical credentials, university faculty and hospital positions, all while giving potentially harmful and often ridiculous medical advice to his millions-strong audience.

The fact that Oz hasn't lost any credentials speaks to a larger challenge in modern medicine: Once you get a medical license, its actually really difficult to lose it.
