That was indeed a stunner. Well that is what some thought.

Two days after the election they are still talking about it on every US News Channel. The Democrats are reeling a bit.

The fact they are reeling is not a good sign for them, they were caught "sleeping", so perhaps not in touch with reality.

There still talking about it all over the country. I was pleasantly surprised by the election results, in fact ecstatic. :) I've said it all along, the Democrats under Obama, Pelosi and Reid have never been in touch with reality, what the people really want. There just stuck on what they want.

I sometimes wonder if the 'people' in either of our countries know what they really want, ironsides. Just reading threads and posts on this forum makes me wonder if there really is a consensus of opinion on any political subject. Some people seem to change their opinion as readily as the wind changes direction.
Personally, I applaud anyone who has the fortitude to run for political office. The office of President or Prime Minister is even a tougher row to hoe - damned if you do, damned if you don't.

That's for sure, it requires walking a tight line, standing firm on principle while being flexible on the execution.

You have that right, JLM, and even doing so, they are still pilloried for the decisions they make.

In this case, I think for the most part, the politicians are just finding out that we just want to be left alone to live out our lives as we see fit. Yes, being President or Prime Minister is a very hard and complicated job, but it is not their principles they must learn to follow, it is the peoples..

Actually they are doing a pretty good job as Predator Strikes are up. Perhaps it is because they aren't bombing enough Afghan Weddings. I think we are falling behind on those and that is where you get the most women and children.

What Obama has just found out is that if you go to far from the center you fall out of favor. Clinton did at the beginning but he read the writing on the wall and moved back to the center realizing that it is not the Democrat base and far left that gets you in office...it is the independent and unenrolled voters that swing elections.

It might make their job a bit easier if we could even agree on a certain set of principles, ironsides, but that seems to be a bit elusive, no?

Only if they are dishonest. When an honest politician (theoretically) first throws his hat in the ring he makes it widely understood what he stands for and if he stands for the right things, he gets elected by a base and as long as he sticks to his platform, the voters should stand by him. When they don't that is the time to get out of politics.

Nobody likes Obama and it shows.

He is well liked...he just needs to get the economy going, lower unemployment and he'll be fine. As of now all he is focusing on is health care and raising the deficit higher.

I think there is one main lesson to be learned here that doesn't take rocket science to figure out- GOV'T.s SHOULD STAY RIGHT THE HELL OUT OF HEALTH CARE.

Coakley was so out of touch even with the people who sent Kennedy to the Senate for 47 years and has sent John Kerry back repeatedly. She thought by simply winning the Democrat Primaries her campaigning was over and took a vacation. She refused to debate Scott Brown until she saw the polls slipping fast. Brown trounced her and then they realized they had a race on their hands and the people of Massachusetts were not going to simply ordain her.

As I said in an earlier post...when asked why she wasn't out there meeting with the people she snapped...

"What do you want me to do? Go out and shake hands with people outside Fenway Park? In the cold?"

...referring to Scott Brown being outside Fenway Park when they set up an outdoor hockey rink for the Bruins-Flyers game and local college hockey games.

The marketing wore off. Kinda like "New Coke".

Soon Coke Classic will hit the shelf and sales will increase but they'll need a huge rah rah sis boom bah tradegy to rally people to ditch more money and more lifestyle.

That'll be food.

How long can the US govt keep subsidizing agriculture to the tune of 60%?

DON'T GET ME STARTED!

Agriculture is just part of it although subsidizing keeps food prices down a bit.

But we have so much fleecing here in America. America is the biggest producer of helium. WHy? Because we may need it for blimps during war. That is why we subsidized it during WWI (Yes the FIRST world war) and still subsidize it to this day. Same with wool subsidies. We stock pile wool for uniforms when our uniforms are not wool anymore. But they have to keep the pork flowing. Paying farmers to have their livestock feed on government lands...we pay them! The list goes on and on.

From what I have read about Brown is that he is fiscally conservative & a socially moderate?

Well he is from Massachusetts and needs to be a heck of a lot closer to the center than most other US politicians. Coakley tried to smear him saying he is George Bush as if that is working still. His views are actually in line with John F. Kennedy's and that is one reason that he got elected. The party of JFK is a shadow of the Democrat Party of today.

Lets not forget that the Democrats just dropped the stock market today with a targeted strike against the Republicans.
