My home town is not too far from Shag Harbour. I'll let you in on a secret DB, a marine engineer makes those parts in his basement. There's always a dupe willing to believe it's the real stuff. ( the real stuff is in a bunker)

With all due respect...did you read the article on Bulgaria?
With all due respect, I think you missed the point I was making. Walter keeps posting stuff about record lows, so I just post stuff about record highs. Weather happens. Walter cannot seem to grasp the concept of CLIMATE.

It was 22 degrees and they say it was caused by fog...and blizzards are due this weekend.
So? Last I heard fog was a factor in weather patterns.

Ok then...what should we do?

Give undeveloped nations trillions, grind the western economies to a trickle, allow China and India and the other Basic nations to grow unrestrained... and that will stop the climate from changing?

Does the foil make great hats? I really need some foil hats.

Yes I imagine it might. I have actually made foil hats to bake potatoes in on the barbeeQ. Once the split potatoe has the butter onion garlic and maple syrup sauce applied in the excavated wedge the length the patatoe it is then held closed by bunching the foil arround the potatoe, taking care not to disturb the hats top which is now pointing down. The down pointing top is now twisted into a knot just the right size to push between the splines in the rack, This holds the stuffing in place as the potatoe cooks providing a slow delicious permeation of the veggie with the sauce. You will require about a square meter of foil for each average potatoe.

They think the sun will come back on if we pay more taxes. In the old days it was sacrificing chickens and goats.

Quit screwing up the planet.

We already give undeveloped nations lots, I can't see where giving them more will change anything.

Well isn't that what Copenhagen was all about?
Screwing up the planet or playing political games?
My stance is that I cannot see what difference it makes making money from cleaner sources of energy than from oil. The players are just different.

Conservation Ecology: Bridging the Gap Between Economics and Ecology

IMO, there doesn't need to be a gap between ecology/conservation and economics, but there is definitely a gap between economics to satisfy greed and ecological economics.

WHAT GLOBAL WARMING? It is freezing down here.

Coldest winter in 25 years, quarter of a century, new cold records are being set. Artic blasts being felt as far south as Florida's Key West, one after another. Yet we are in a global warming?? Global warming is just another scare tactic from environmentalists. The Earth will cycle from cold ice age type climates to warm tropical climates, always has, always will. Those who say we are warming up or cooling down are no different than those who tried scaring the natives with an eclipse being a god devouring the Moon that only they could bring it back. Mother Earth is just letting us know she still is in charge and there is nothing we can do about it.

Well the Climate Change movement has been hijacked then. Because it is clearly apparent that it is being used as a tool for wealth distribution. To take from western nations to give to so called underdeveloped nations. Also leaving the Basic Nations as they are so called which are really developed nations whom the Climate Change folks know are lost causes when it comes to forcing them to bend to their will. That is why the US stood up to Kyoto and why Copenhagen was a big waste of resources (causing a massive carbon footprint) and time.

These scientists probably had their requests for government grants turned down. Just sour grapes if you ask me.

Letter from 141 scientists to UN Sec Gen Ban states skeptics case

John McLaughlin

The website globalwarminghoax.com posts a letter sent to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon signed by 141 scientists stating the case for why anthropogenic (manmade) global warming (AGW) is far from settled science.

Well the Climate Change movement has been hijacked then.

That may be true, but it dosen't make the problem of AGW go away. Kyoto was a good first step as intended but then politics got in the way. Now we will see no international action on climate change which is a shame for us all.

" I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure."

Extreme weather can be caused by climate change.

As the theory goes, lower magnetic activity of the sun lets more GCR’s into our solar system, which produce microscopic cloud seed trails (like in a Wilson cloud chamber) in our atmosphere, resulting in more cloud cover, resulting in a cooler planet.

Well, Walter, this hypothesis has lost favour with all but the most ardent solar folk.

If Svensmark is correct, then the temperature and magnetic index should be tracking in the same direction, with a slight offset (very slight).

Does the temperature follow the lead from solar magnetic activity? Here's the UAH smoothed by monthly values, as the graph on Watts is. Compare Watts' blue line to this UAH:

We see UAH with a peak in 2002, 2005, and 2007. There is no coherence.

More than that, compare the long term magnetic index to the temperature:

Magnetic index:

No secular trend there. A lot of noise, but this long term trend would be a flat line.

Temperature:

Quite different. Obviously the geomagnetic index is a minor player, not contributing to the trend, but contributing likely a small part to the variability around the trend in surface temperature.

This is why only a few people remain in the solar camp. Moreover, it can't explain why the stratosphere cools when the troposphere warms.

Extreme weather can be caused by climate change.

I agree, but what change will occur? (remain the same, get warmer or get colder) What are we trying to prevent? Global Warming or Global Cooling. What could we do if this is another one of those mini ice ages happening again?

Cover the poles and all other ice with black carbon, burn more fuel, release more methane, reduce the reflectivity of surfaces. To start.

But it isn't a mini ice age happening again. There's no evidence of this at all.

I know it will take a few years to tell if a mini ice age is happening again. This cold does make one think though, hard to prove global warming while a good part of the world is freezing.
