... wonder if you'd be the same husband to her...
I've thought about that a lot too, and the answer is quite clearly no, I wouldn't be the same. I believe I've been a better husband and father than I'd have been without that experience, and I suppose I ought to be grateful for that, but I'm not, really. Most days I think my first wife's judgment ought to be investigated...

Dex ... there's an easy way to put it in perspective. Utube doesn't have a video and I have no way of downloading from my C drive to here (next best to computer illiterate) but if you can find Daren Norwood and If It Wasn't For Her I Wouldn't Have You it speaks volumes

Yes, it does. I'm not familiar with the song, but I found the lyrics on line. Thanks for that, it was a kind thought.

I've also decided that the other 9 of the 10 stupidest things I've done almost certainly all happened in the years between the end of that first marriage and the beginning of the one that worked. But I'm not going to list them. I try not to think about them, though there are a couple of people I'd like to find and apologize to for the way I treated them. I think I was out of my mind for a while with grief and outrage, and took some of it out on innocents who had nothing to do with it.

Well, the neat thing is, you have a life you enjoy now, and there are those of us who enjoy having you around. :)

Ah, thank you, another kind thought. Must be the season or something... And you're right, I really have no grounds for complaint, life's been pretty good on balance, and I think a life without regrets isn't really possible unless you deliberately avoid all possible experiences. But that in itself should be cause for regret. A person who's never made a mistake has never done anything.

Regrets and pains are not pleasant, but I think they are needed, too, yup.

There must be a person somewhere who has had a very full life, and
lots of neat experiences, made lots of money, and NEVER MADE A
MISTAKE.
But I guess one person's mistake could be another's reward, depends what your passions are I guess.
My list of mistakes is a mile long, mostly to do with the lack of
managing money early on, for a number of years, and I think that
is quite common.
I made one big mistake that has turned out to be a non mistake and
that was, marrying too young, without any other love experiences in
my life, or even non love experiences, and that was stupid, and
early on I thought about that, BUT as the years progressed I realized that is wasn't a mistake but the strength and joy of my life, and
if I had have had other experiences I might have married 'one of
them' and failed, so one never really knows. Life has to be lived
to learn.

well, in retrospect, even though I love who I am now, I don't know that I'd repeat the horrors that have brought me here either. But, since I can't go back, it is a bit of a salve on the soul (if you'll pardon the expression) to know that they brought me to the people and places I enjoy today.

Using your list as a jumping off point mine it going to number about 10,000 by the time I hit 30. Just sayin ......

They say every great man has made mistakes, I'm going to go with most men make many mistakes and none of them have made them great human beings, pretty much leaving them as the pricks they were in real life.
