I'd say he can afford to be a nice guy. But I can admit that he does seem to be quite the philanthropist. I guess I am just used to being suspicious of rich people. But, I'd say I have grounds to be suspicious. :)
At any rate, I still see no more of a big deal between a Tiger Woods and Andy the accountant, Bennie the baker, or Eddie the electrician other than sheer sensationalism. "Celebrity is news. Everything else is entertainment" McLuhan
from post #7.
Andy the accountant, Bennie the baker, and Eddie the electrrician might be just as good at their jobs as Woods is at his. Big deal. He's simply not as good at marriage as some others. I've seen worse and I've seen better. Not a big deal.
Even at his job he screws up sometimes. Gretzky screwed up sometimes. Not a big deal. They are still good gamespeople.

Seems to be an awful lot of people happy and making jokes about a failing marriage. That's pretty freakin sad in my books.

(Now I bet they start rationalising it)

How does someone who supports principles so adamant against anthing that "hurts that union created by God" support making jokes about the potential grounds for divorce

What an interesting spectrum hey?

While some get frustrated by the media saturation after an incident like this, and as talloola was trying to say, wish that the media would keep their noses out of it, your statement is the flip side of the coin that we rarely consider.

The media making us think we KNOW someone we see mere snippets of. That's a nasty little trick they play don't you think? I'm not too sure which is more harmful overall frankly.

I'm sure the very first hint that something was amiss drew the press like the vultures they are.

I'm sure Tiger Woods has all kinds of people; agents, publicists, etc, who all do their best to show him in the very best light possible. We don't know if the ladies we've heard about are the only ones. For all we know there might be another dozen or so who will jump on the bandwagon drawn by the smell of money.

If the press had been following these women, it certainly was not a new item to them..

Whether we, the general public, wanted to believe those who tried to tell us about it or not now seems pointless. This is why I have an issue with those who jump on the PRESS and blame them for doing their job for those who know they are targets of such publicity..

If you are a married man and hang around these women I think you only bring about yourself the attention you will eventually gain such as Tiger has now brought upon himself and his family.

Care or not this will make news because it is sleazy and now brings in the money by making headlines nightly..

With all economic hardship in the world, people struggling to feed and clothe their families, pay their mortgages.. it's not surprising that some are bemused by the distress of someone who made a billion dollars by playing golf, for crying out loud, and has made his own marriage bed and is now having to lie in it.

And quoting the other part of my post now
(Now I bet they start rationalising it)

Anyway, he earned his money by doing something he is good at. Is there something wrong with that? That he helps out a lot of people with his money makes it worthy of making jokes about his personal life? That there are poor people around is his fault? Sorry, you're nucking futs.

Being happy about a failing marriage? I didn't see any of that here, but maybe I missed it.

Making jokes? Yes indeed. And I'm not rationalizing it.

lol... if my hubby hit a hydrant fast enough to be trapped in a wreck, roaring out of the house at 2AM, and I smashed out his window with a golf club, EVERYone would be smart enough to know it was not to rescue him. It would be because we'd gotten in a fight so massive that he felt the need to haul his drunk ass out of there as quick as he could, with me in pursuit, weapon in hand.

But... I'm not rich. Rich people are 'better'.

I didn't say everyone would be rationalising it. I am not surprised coldstream did, though.

I don't think all this intensive marriage counselling is going to do much good.

Promiscuous sex is atleast as addictive as heroin, and without serious rehabilitation or an epiphany, the old habits will reestablish themselves and soon as the media heat is off. He certainly seemed to fall into them within months of his marriage. I would think Tiger thinks the only problem he has, is he got caught.

Tiger will have no shortage of willing partners. I think Elin will take her money (and the children) and run, and Tiger will have one less thing to worry about in crimping his style.

My guess, though, is this will affect his Golf game more than he suspects. I would not be surprised if he NEVER wins another Major. Which would leave him at number 2 in the all time rankings, something that would be a constant thorn in the side of someone whose sole ambition in the game was to become the undisputed best player of all time.

He's right about society being sick, though, but for the wrong reasons. Society being sick and designing high divorce rates and other nasty stuff isn't because of biblical sinning, gods giving man free will, and other nonsense like that, it's because some people control our priorities and principles. Those are the people that head corporations, governments, and the like. They take the basic idea for society and then flip it 180º , so that humans end up serving society.

Spoken like a true eco anarchist/ socialist or whatever you are L.. Unfortunately, as usual, you are making much sense.

So am i to take it that corporations are imposing adultery and marriage breakdown and homosexuality and the other corrosive elements on our society on us to improve their bottom lines.

I have been vocal in other threads of the absense of moral responsibility in corporations and in government alike in our society, but i know things like that are ultimately in our own hands. Follow a gospel of truth and none of it will happen, follow a gospel of radical individual gratification and it will, corporations or not.
