Yes, there were two Young Guns movies. I thought they were entertaining movies, but they were not classics like the ones mentioned in the thread so far.

A while back I picked up a couple of multi-packs from Wal-Mart that contained a bunch of Western movies(I got them both for $10!)

The movies in the first pack are:

1. Pancho Villa
2. Navajo Joe
3. A Town Called Hell
4. Eagle's Wing

In the second pack there was:

1. Beyond The Law
2. Death Rides A Horse
3. God's Gun
4. Cry Blood Apache

I have yet to see them yet, so I do not know if they are any good or not. However, 8 movies for $10 is a pretty good deal!
Not familiar to me, except Pancho Villa, wonder if that is the one with
Marlin Brando, when he was young, and very handsome, good movie.
He was also is one when he was old, forgot the name, but it was also good.
Maybe someone knows the title.
Just watched 'ride with the devil' the other night, good movie, but a weak
ending, forget the stars name, but he is a good actor, quite new, oh, I
know, Toby McGuire.

I looked on the back of the DVD case, and checked IMDB, and he was not listed on either one. It has Telly Savalas in it, perhaps that was who you were thinking of?

I just don't understand why hollywood can't make westerns these days as good as some of those mentioned in this thread. I love the old westerns.

Probably because the tastes have changed with regards to the viewing public. I am not saying it's a good thing(as there are a LOT of crappy movies, and a LOT of remakes), but that is just the way it is.

All Quiet on The Western Front. I hate westerns except when the injuns massacre everyone of the dirt farmers right down to the cattle. No movie genre is more full of **** than the American western.

Exactly, the problem being, John Wayne, Randolf Scott, Glenn Ford, Burt Lancaster aren't around anymore and Clint Eastwood although he's not bad, isn't great. Oh, can't forget Jimmy Stewart.

Try to watch the complete collection of 'Into the West', it gives a very good
review of the attack at 'wounded knee', it is a long mini series, and lets us
all know of the miserable behavior of the white men, at that time and place.
It is done in a realistic manner, complete with the native language, and
lifestyle, and I will watch it over, every year or so.

You're entitled and welcome to your opinion.

Thankyou JLM it's an opinion shared by 5.9 of the worlds six billion.;-)

So .........answer three questions for me- 1. Where is the 5.9 billion written down ? and 2. how many of them are informed? and 3. What has that got to do with those of us who enjoy them?

Shadowshiv, I think the MARLON BRANDO film you mean is called "Viva Zapata."
Brando portrayed the Mexican revolutionary, Zapata, and someone else (Alan Reed, I think--the voice of Fred Flintstone, actually) played Villa, which was a supporting role. A great film about Villa is "Viva Villa," from the 1930's, an oldie but goodie, starring Wallace Beery.

The western Brando made when he was older that you're thinking of may be "The Missouri Breaks." Jack Nicholson was the costar.

The spaghetti westerns are not really my style (though Eastwood is good--I like the Dirty harry movies). One thing I don't like is that they don't look like the American west. The Spanish locations (I think) look kinda weird.

I guess I like the older ones. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is one of my all-time favorites. Also anything with John Wayne, esp. The Searchers, Three Godfathers, El Dorado, Rio Bravo, Red River. Also like How The West Was Won.
And North To Alaska is a great comedy western (or "northern," really!)...

Right on both counts, those are the movies I was trying to thin of, and both
very good.
Yeah, I've seen all of those too, red river is very old, but very good.
Montomergy Cliff was very young, just starting out.

America is best known for their cowboy movies.

In those cowboy movies, they are killing Indians because they decided to break the treaties with them.

American cowboy movies they kill the Mexicans because America stole part of Mexico from them.

My favorite western movies is the John Wayne movies and the Glen Ford about a tough old cowboy who decides to take on the cattle ranchers with his flock of sheep.

The ones I liked the most were High Noon, Jeremiah Johnson, The Oxbow Incident, The Cheyenne Social Club, Once Upon A Time In The West, True Grit, WInchester 73, The Magnificent Seven, The Ballad of Cable Hogue, and a few others. Some Clint Eastwood ones were ok, some were garbage. Terence Hill westerns are a howl. Can't stand Kevin Costner but he was in one with Robert Duvall called "Open Range" that was pretty good.
