Kreskin, in the Profile, where you can select Online or Offline, can Andem add an Option for "Away" or "Holidays" or even "Not Postings" so people know others are away for a while. This would let us know the difference between "Time Out" and those who are just away on their own..

Just an Idea..

The term 'Time Out' is the one that is given to a person that has been banned, either temporarily or permanently and does not have anything to do with whether or not someone has left(by choice;-)). That being said, you have made an excellent idea and hopefully Andem is able to implement it. It would ease the worry of members when someone is going to be gone for a long(or semi-long) period of time.

Andem may miss this thread, so I would send him a PM inquiring about this if I were you. I am not sure if he would be able to implement something like this, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask.

I'll be offline awhile. My best friend is freaking out about a course that's required for his job, and I've dedicated myself to tutoring in the evenings. Some of this stuff I need to learn first myself, so needless to say I'll be busy for several weeks. I will try to post and chat when I can. Until then...

I feel for ya, I'm going off line for a couple weeks too to continue training. But I'm not going to Vancouver this time, I have to go the the Great Satan, Toronto :pukeleft:. To all of you who live there, I did too but left when I was 17 and only go back to visit, and only when I have to.

Northern Ontario,
When someone is going to be away for a while.....why not post it under your name where it says "What are you doing"...
That way if anyone has any concerns.....you just go to the user profile and it's all there:lol:

That is editable as often as you like........

I've had it with this damn computor..less than 6 mos. old and in the repair shop 3 times! It;s going back in and this time, it'll stay there until they find and fix all the problems I've been cursing at since i got it. So, who knows when i can find my way back here:-( Should have posted this before as it explains my previous longish absences.

I hope you got your computer finally fixed to your satisfaction, missile. I guess I just have been lucky with computers. I am on my third computer since 1991 (386, then Windows 98, now Windows XP), and none of them have given me any problems.

I remember the only time I had to take my Windows 98 computer to the shop was when it picked up a virus. But at that time I didn’t have anti-virus on my computer, I was using internet without any virus protection. Once I got virus protection, I have had absolutely no problems with my computer.

I know they say that Norton anti-virus is not the best system available, but it has worked like a charm for me, so far.

That's a good idea along with the plan by SirFrancis. Another way might be to just send a bulk mail to all friends on here so that they can answer if anyone asks.

Why not use AVG free anti virus? Norton is a target. Haven't you noticed that you get a lot of virus warnings around renewal time? That's when we just moved to the free one and we don't get bothered much. Since at least 90% of the mail I get shows the person is using AVG, it must be very popular. Free is always popular.

Good idea, but the "What are you doing?" bit expires automatically after 7 days.. just like facebook (actually, I have no idea how long it takes to expire on fb).

Another option is to post on your own wall letting people know you'll be away for a while.

I've thought about it. Smashing the piece of .... would ease the old frustration factor. The problem is it freezes up and the mouse doesn't work ,plus the noise when it freezes. Then, after i have had my fill of swearing, etc. refuses to be shut down.

Take the hammer to it an uploaded on you tube....may as well have some last good bye fun.

I noticed that, fortunately the hotel I'm staying at has free computers and internet this time, but I'm limited to 20 minutes per session, we'll see if they kick me out of the business office:smile:
