Yes, he is accused of sexual misconduct times TWO. If proven guilty , he should be penalized accordingly. Sweden from what I know....and the friends I have there......is a rather civil place. and not prone to barbarism. If anything, they are rather liberal by many standards.

The problem is......that the ones he really pissed are the americans by posting truths. The US might find a way to have him tried for some kind of treason or whatever they trump up , if they can get their hands on him.

The "rape" thing might just be smoke .....

If it were not for his publishing of various inormation , the world would not be the wiser about many political (US) shenanegans.

What exactly do you KNOW about the legal process of / in Sweden???

Just because the US tortures , does not mean other nations do.

You've got to be kidding.

He shouldn't be extradicted to face rape charges because, one, Sweden might suddenly decide to torture him (Sweden! of all places to suggest they'd torture someone!) and, second, the US might decide to charge him with treason? Bats might fly out of my asshole, is this a good hypothetical reason not to extradite him, too?

Is what Wikileaks has done any different from the release of Watergate information that lead to Tricky Dicky resigning? If exposing illegal and immoral behaviour of governments is treason, what is the behaviour of said governments called?

Just curious.

The stolen Pentagon Papers revealed only malfeasance on the part of the US government.

The stolen Pentagon Papers did not reveal secrets of international di[plomacy.

The stolen Pentagon Papers did not put good people around the world at risk.

The person that stole the Pentagon Papers was a US citizen, acting out of honest (if misguided) principle, who was tried for his actions. (mistrial)

.
I felt that as an American citizen, as a responsible citizen, I could no longer cooperate in concealing this information from the American public. I did this clearly at my own jeopardy and I am prepared to answer to all the consequences of this decision.
— Ellsberg on why he released the Pentagon Papers to the press.[9]

Big difference.

HOW did the truths revealed by WikiLeaks put lives in danger. ( that seems to be the catch phrase for a lot of issues .....) We all KNOW what puts lives in danger and it is WARS. , terrorism and the terrorism of war.

People through out history have made it a point to expose the nasty , shady decisions and actions of various gov'ts. IF transparency is to be a reality.......then these folks should be respected for their courage.

But Sweden is not likely to address the cables issue. He is ACCUSED of rape and this is what Swedish law will be dealilng with.......as I understand it.

Can't you blame that on the US?

Now THAT is truly silly. You are smarter than that.

and then there is this: ( something I forgot .........the fact that the charges of rape were dropped and then made again )

Condomgate: Assange's Rape Charges May Hinge On Whether Sex Was Unprotected

Condomgate: Assange's Rape Charges May Hinge On Whether Sex Was Unprotected | AlterNet

the above covers some of the events at the time......so is a refresher so to speak.

As far as this extradition is concerned........the issue is those two rape charges.

Just because the revelations pissed of a lot of governments........that is another issue ....for the time being. Depends on how all this is manipulated now.

Ask the Afghani members who were named in these leaks - Most are dead now. So it should not take long

Who would have thought
Indeed I had to do a double-take after reading that, lest I be mistaken. Sweden you say ? Surely this can not be correct ? After all Sweden is often held up as the premier example of the social-democratic welfare state ?
But upon closer examination -as is the case with many things in life- the actual reality seems to be at odds with commonly held perceptions. For instance while accusation and reports of rape in Sweden are by far the highest at 46.5 per 100,000,the conviction rate of only 10% is one of the lowest in Europe. More on this later…
And remember the righteous outrage of people around the world regarding the U.S government’s Empire’s use of extraordinary rendition .Well apparently Sweden was knowingly in the loop & provided assistance in the form of landing rights and the like. Now given Sweden’s long social-democratic tradition & its subsequent reputation, how can this be ? In fact where was Sweden’s supposedly exemplary social-democratic tradition then ?
Well pretty much where it is today,i.e collaborating with the Empire. This time round to silence an individual . That being Julian Assange 39- the founder of Wikileaks – in fact they are attempting to destroy his reputation and possibly imprison him for daring to very publicly confirm what many of us have long known, the Empire has no clothes. And lest anyone have anymore doubts, when push comes to shove the government will & can **** you over if it so desires. Surprise, surprise & despite all the “checks and balances” of our supposedly democratic system

Can't recall now.......but was there HARD EVIDENCE that the leaks were the "cause" of those deaths or was it a multitude of issues??

Do you agree or disagree by publicly announcing names of people - families that worked with NATO in Afghanistan that they are in most likelihood dead? Yes or no is sufficient.

Nothing is absolute. Sorry a plain YES or NO does not work.

I know that I am, but I'm not sure about you.

I would hope that even you are smarter than that. Oh, right, I've read your posts.

IF I am so ignorant in your eyes........why do you bother to read anything I post here??? What makes YOU think I give a damn about what you think about ME. ??? I don't. But I DO care about everyone's opinions about the issues at hand. One does not have to agree with everyone all the time........as that would defeat the idea of any kind of true discussion.

The question asks for an opinion. Yes or no would only verify one's opinion, not a fact.
