Why would anyone trust the Liberals, the NDP or the Bloc?

What kind of response did you really expect? And for the record, you wouldn't have taken that as an insult unless you already knew the answer. So it seems that you were not adverse to throwing gas on a fire and now you don't like the consequence.
Did I say I took it as an insult? Perhaps if you spent less time patting yourself on the back over some self-perceived "gotcha" scorecard and more on civil debate you wouldn't be such an anal void.

Consequence? You? Hardly....

Apparently there is quite a consequence seeing how you have no rebuttal and only pathetic little attacks.

Quite funny really.

So, back to topic, did you school yourself on my comment about how the lack of wage disparity in the (former) USSR sisn't lead to a crime-free utopia?

Got an answer or just more sad posturing and the as per usual nothing to contribute

See? I just knew you couldn't resist - so why not stay on topic instead of deflecting with gulags and the Soviet days?

BTW.... I doubt if many Russians actually trusted the Communist Party either. In their case, though, it would either be that or a farewell party.

They did it without being forced by the government and without political pressure.

You on the other hand...?

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about
eleven (11) things they did not and will not learn in school.
He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings
created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and
how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2: The world doesn't care about your self-esteem.
The world will expect you to accomplish something
BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school.
You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity.
Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping:
They called it opportunity.

Rule 6:If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault,
so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring
as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills,
cleaning your clothes and listening to you
talk about how cool you thought you were
So before you save the rain forest
from the parasites of your parent's generation,
try delousing the closet in your own room..
Keep yourself clean.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers,
but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades
and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer.
*This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters.
You don't get summers off and very few employers
are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF.
*Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life.
In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds.
Chances are you'll end up working for one..

Oh no that's not right. They were forced to give boat loads of money, more than you make in a life time away to support schools, affirmative action, road repairs, welfare for pregnant mothers and guys out of work, hospital care for those who can't afford even the basics in life. Even rich rich politicians dinners as long as they said it was a business expense. Just like everyone else.

On top of that, they gave away sums again more than you will make in your lifetime, willingly and on top of what they were forced to give away.

Something you never seemed to pick up on is that without things like schools and other socialist programs, those uneducated males would instead be recruited by organized crime who see the value of someone who can and will go blow your head off at a stop light and take your car and wallet, go to your house and take all the stuff there too and kill, rape of maybe enslave your wife and female children.

While you might be able to shoot a few of them even, they will eventually get you and to train someone to do that doesn't take long or cost a whole lot of money.

Bill Gates was always my kind of guy. NEVER, EVER for a single second did it ever occurred to me to be jealous or envious of his money, his wealth, his house and never for a single second did I ever think that he should pay more taxes JUST BECAUSE NOBODY NEEDS THAT MUCH.

Whatever he has got, he EARNED. Whatever I have got, I EARNED. It belongs to nobody, but me. If I can afford to help anyone less fortunate, I will do so VOLUNTARILY, as I have for years. I do not need a liberal freeloader to tell me that I have more than I need, so I should help those who are unwilling or too lazy to help themselves.

Strange that the ones who always cry about EQUALITY oppose EQUAL rate of taxation to everybody.

Gerald Ford was the only President who was never elected to be President. He was never even elected Vice President and only became one, when Nixon's Vice President got booted for corruption.

However he has one quote that should be remembered: "A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take from you everything you have".

.

You're on the ball today, Yukon Jack- I came to the conclusion several years ago that the people who are deemed to be successful are the ones who did all the things they really didn't feel like doing.

I thought Ford was Nixon's veep, or have I got things all f*****d up?

I have done alot of things that I really didn't feel like doing, as well. All I ask for is .1% of BG's success. :)

He may be your type of guy, but it's plain as day that the two of you do not see eye-to-eye on this issue at all. Though the way you're framing it is a bit of a strawman. Bill Gates doesn't wish to pay more taxes because he doesn't need all his money, he wants to give more because he is in a position to do so. In fact I'm sure he feels his foundation can target the resources more effectively than his taxes can, but at the same time, if he pays more taxes he can alleviate the pressure on the middle class. That's an important distinction.

I was a Microsoft fan in the late 80s and early 90s, but somewhere around Window 98, I started to grow tired of having to upgrade my software every 2 years.

In 2001, I had the opportunity to switch to Open Office, and Mozilla and have never looked back.
