There's nothing wrong with real country, Johnny Cash, George Jones and the like.

It's this "New Country" (or as it is known in most of Canada "Old Rock") that makes everyone vomit.

Country music is supposed to be about lamenting the man, not kissing his arse.

Northern Ontario,
Awwww! What the heck kind of fireworks is that? I'm highly disappointed.
 The only instrument that is allowed plugged in in Bluegrass is the bass because not every band has room for an old doghouse.....every other instrument is miked.........

were you expecting a war over music???;-)

Country and western is the white version of soul music where most of the songs deal with oppression and depression.

Cowboys and farmers, dealing with financials pressures from the eastern banks because the weather is not good for crops and livestock.

If you were to ad the twang sound to soul you would have country and western and the stories are the same all about failed love and failed life of the down and outs of society trying to make it work.

In country and western and also in soul there are happy and good songs but most songs are tearjerkers.

Rock and Roll is more of a fighting back and making things work type of music.

This is why the general population were against Rock and Roll in the fifties because they viewed it more of a revolutionary sound with country and western and soul music they could control the people; with Rock and Roll the people basically said we chart our own destiny.

This is why society started to change in the sixties in America especially during the Vietnam War years where peace and love started to take over the world against the will of the establishment.

Peace and love explored new ways like equality for all and was a major motivator for the birth of the Black Power movement, which ironically used a mini war or revolution to gain them their equal rights

This is why country and western music will never make to the mainstream of society but as one gets older this type of music become tolerable. I sometimes listen to a country and western radio station just to listen to the twang.

Aw, nope. Trad. blues is mostly acoustic. Or it ain't trad. blues.

Black street musicians and delta pickers didn't have no amps.

Check out any of the oldtime blues guys and you'll see them playing into mics but with acoustic guitars.

BB King was amped, but he was mostly crossover, rockabilly, black rock, with some blues stuff going on. Not trad. blues.

Just sayin. Believe whatcha want, eh;-)

Hey DA SLEEPER !!

Check out Etta Baker on (google "CD Baby"), for some real nice Peidmont blues picking.

You can play snippets of
Carolina Breakdown
Railroad Bill
and etc.

I think Mississippi John Hurt is on there also.

8OYIKES!!

So, after all that, Etta let me down and played through an amp!!!! (Watch Karrie beat on me now!) Maybe Etta needed the help as she was about late 80's when that was taped. Just died a couple years ago, in her 90's. Helluva picker.

I sometimes feel I missed out by not being born in North Carolina or somewhere down south.

That is the Renfrew open mike as in Renfrew, Ontario???? Gotta get up there.

Ian and Sylvia did a great job of "Darcy Farrow" many years ago. Ian Tyson's a not too shabby country picker too. IMO, only.

Thanks for that, Das.

Northern Ontario,
It is in Renfrew Ontario....just North of Ottawa....I enjoy going to that one every year...also in Tottenham On. and River Valley On.

the only big argument in Bluegrass Forums is allowing an electric Bass to play....
The Purists actually think the bands should play "Single Mike"
It sure makes filming easier...
You have to amplify in some way for a large audience ....

I will put more in the future...I have hundreds of hour of videos I've recorded over the years of going to festivals....it's a slow process to cut a clip off a Dvd file transcode it to an avi file for editing in windows movie maker then upload it to you tube.....and that....only when I can get on my wife's computer....because it has a better faster processor:-(

There are multiple country music stations throughout Ontario, just not in Urban areas. Also what about Havelock jamboree? That's a pretty large country music festival.

He DaSleeper- any idea of alternate names of Misissippi John Hurts "My loving spoonful"?? I recall it being called a few different things and I can't find any of them anywheres (and I lost the only John Hurt CD I had dammit)

That guy was an awesome anti-bluesman almost- lived a fairly plain life, wrote tunes about being happy and stuff, and was a killer player to boot
