I think the current concept of racism, that which propels the movements of political correctness, affirmative action, black lives matter.. is that racism is systemic and enculturated into our society.

That's not really true, there is racism. But the concept of race is not a bioligical one, it is a cultural one. People identify with cultural attributes and heritage, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Racism has become a political vehicle which demands that it become pernicious form of engrained bigotry. There is a small, very angry group that has latched on to that. But, for the most part people are just trying to get along with differences between and amongst races and cultures. That has been aggravated by political agendas that relies of division and mutual suspicion, to attain and maintain power.

There is a lot of truth to what you say but racism is also taught.


So far, I have known one truly racist individual who didn't make any bones about it. Despite talking to him, he feels he has a real reason to "hate" because of his experiences. He generalizes extensively and no matter what I say, he is adamant about his beliefs. He has two sons and while I don't know them really well, I do know they express some of the same feelings without the experiences of their dad. Truly shameful but he doesn't apologize for feeling the way he does one bit. Thankfully, he's the only one I know that is so blatant about it and hopefully the only person I know who is racist period.

There’s a bandit on the loose, but don’t worry: the police say he’s extremely polite. According to local cops, the thief is handy with a razor, but only to trim the peach fuzz from his youthful, clean shaven face. The kid likes to rob banks — he’s ripped off five Yonge St. branches in a mere month — but goodness, police say, the grammar in the stick-up notes he hands to bank tellers is impeccable.

Toronto police inspector Mike Earl labelled this unknown thief the “lunchtime bandit,” and a “preppy punk” at a truly bizarre press conference on Tuesday. Media outlets have playfully amplified Earl’s comments — it kinda feels like folks are rooting for the kid.

Given that the suspect is a young, book-smart, well-dressed white boy, his social value as a relatively harmless rascal is worth far more than the cash he has stolen.

“The suspect is described as preppy,” Earl told reporters at the press conference. Dave Chappelle, the beloved black comedian who has made a career critiquing whiteness, couldn’t have written it better. This joke, even if unintended, allows the public to take bandit boy and his crimes less seriously. Earl’s statement that the suspect is “a clean-cut individual that probably doesn’t fit this mould” is a much clearer indicator of bias — would a bearded suspect make more sense?

Inspector Earl, a veteran who has apparently investigated hundreds of bank robberies in Toronto, also emphasized the thief’s language skills in the notes he uses to demand cash from bank employees. “The notes, to my understanding, are well written with proper grammar, which tells me that he very well may be, uh, maybe he’s never been in trouble before,” Earl said. This eagerness to explain the thief’s behaviour, to vouch for his intellect, is notable for its sympathy. Why don’t police give all suspects such benefit of the doubt?

“Maybe he’s an educated individual and this is his only hope to get some kind of money,” Earl went on. Yeah, maybe. I wonder what policing in Toronto would look like if police were so generous towards all criminal suspects, particularly those who are not seen as white, male, well-educated, and well-dressed. Imagine police extended this generosity to the residents they disproportionately target through carding, people who are stopped even though they are not suspected of any crime.

I see why people might label the police and media treatment of the bank thief as “privilege,” whether they are referring to the suspect’s race, gender, or perceived social status. But privilege doesn’t go far enough. This white man is painted in a rosy light in direct contrast to people who must, for the sake of power and social dominance, be vilified. In other words, we reserve our worst assumptions and judgments about crime for the poor, the racialized, for trans and gender non-conforming people, for the uneducated. Treating this thief as we treat others would be going too far.

Media stories about the robber have emphasized the brazenness of his crimes — he doesn’t even try to hide his face when entering the banks he intends to rob. Gosh, it seems he has some weird confidence that he won’t get caught, or that if he is caught, his crime won’t be taken as seriously as it might otherwise be if he was someone else. Look no further than inspector Earl and the lighthearted media coverage to understand where the thief could be getting this idea.

Ta-Nehisi Coates has compellingly described racism as “not merely a simplistic hatred. It is, more often, broad sympathy toward some and broader skepticism toward others.” We can extend this observation to patriarchy and classism. Privilege is a term we might use to describe the sympathies extended to this young thief, but the real problem is the violence of our skepticism for people we label as criminals and threats.

The so-called lunchtime bandit has been telling bank employees he has a gun when he demands money. Yet Earl and the police have not issued the well-known public warning that the thief should be considered “armed and dangerous.” It is interesting that, in a city where police kill black people who are holding hammers or scissors, or who are unarmed, the same cops can make excuses for a white guy who had the good sense to shave before committing his crimes.

That’s not privilege, it’s power, a power that transforms a public terror into an intelligent white man whose “only hope” is to take what he wants by force.

Lack of education is one of the factors contributing to racist attitudes - though not by any means the only one. Another factor could be the continuing climate of reconciliation whereby past wrongs are brought once again to the fore to be relived time and again with little or no resolution. It becomes difficult for even the most solicitous, when they are told ad nauseam that they must atone for the sins of their fathers, not to question if resolution will ever be possible. Resentment and bitterness find fertile ground in such situations.

OH BALLS! Education about other cultures is NOT the problem! Our problem is LIE-beral govt with its insane lust for power at any price and a hugely destructive urge to BUY votes! Consider this:

Alleged terror-attacker should be kicked out of Canada

Canada should grant alleged terror-attacker Rehab Dughmosh her request and send her back to her country of origin. The 32-year-old mother is accused of swinging a golf club while armed with a knife and screaming threats and Islamic chants inside a Scarborough Canadian Tire this month.

“I reject all counsel here. I only believe in Islamic Sharia law,” Global News quoted the Scarborough woman as saying during a court appearance this week. “I would like to revoke my Canadian citizenship that I received. I don’t want to have any allegiance to you.”

Of course, Canada has great allegiance to her, granting the woman all the courtesies of a free country. Instead of putting her on an airplane, she is scheduled back in court next week.

Asking the accused to think about it, Justice Kimberley Crosbie would not immediately accept her attempt to plead guilty to the alleged ISIS-inspired attack that saw two people assaulted.

(EXCUSE ME?? The JUDGE wants the accused-who was caught red handed and wrestled to the ground by the people she tried to KILL and held for cops- wants the crazy Muslim Bitch TO THINK ABOUT IT? She has already been through a police identification process and now wants to plead guilty and go home to Camel land and the LIE-beral hug a thug judge wont have it?)

According to Global, Dughmosh declared: “I meant to harm those people. First of all I’m not guilty. But if you release me, I’m going to commit this type of action again and again because I’m pledging allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. In my perspective, I’m not guilty. In your perspective, I might be guilty.”

Why even play the game? Why doesn’t Canada stand up for once, save the court costs and send her packing?

But police sources say it’s more complicated than that.

First, they are not completely sure where she is originally from. They are working on the belief she was born in Syria but before Canada they are looking into leads of a possible stop in Jordan. Police sources say this investigation is very much still ongoing and all of her background, including mental health, is being probed.

The status of Dughmosh’s Canadian citizenship is also unclear, according to sources. She does have status in Canada but it’s still not clear if she has Canadian citizenship or has the belief that permanent resident status is one and the same.

If she is a Canadian citizen it would be next to impossible to deport her. If she has a temporary or permanent residence status, there is a process.

(Uh....why not ASK the crazy bitch where she came from and see what she answers? And what of all those vaunted LIE-beral security measures that are supposed to protect us from anonymous strangers wandering across our borders? Or should we assume the presence in Canada of an undocumented Muslim lunatic is PROOF that our security has BIG HOLES? How desperately does Our idiot Boy Justin want to suck up to Muslims in exchange for their support so he can cling to power? Or maybe it is his family hatred of Cdn Imperialism that is being manifested here? Our idiot Boy wants to keep this idiot Muslim women as a sort of second generation Salmon Arm Salute? Either way, it won’t be easy since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s position on this very thing is abundantly clear, as he outlined during the last election campaign.

“I’ll give you the quote so that you guys can jot it down and put it in an attack ad somewhere that the Liberal Party believes that terrorists should get to keep their Canadian citizenship,” he said. “Because I do. And I’m willing to take on anyone who disagrees with that.”

(Yeah he WILL get that chance to debate terror in the 2019 election! And he will also get to take on anybody who thinks his Carbon crap and trade tax is a rip off as well!)

Trudeau’s premise is “as soon as you make citizenship for some Canadians conditional on good behaviour, you devalue citizenship for everyone” and that he finds it “very, very scary” to see an immigrant’s citizenship revoked because of violations of law.

“There are penalties for anyone convicted of terrorism or an act of war or an offence against Canada,” said Trudeau before he was prime minister. “They end up locked up in jail for the rest of their lives” and a “plane ticket to Syria is not the answer.”

But what is also very scary is that this person is not only allegedly dangerous but also treating this country and its laws and courts like chumps.

For all the good citizens and fabulous immigrants today and those to come in the future, Canada should use this person as the example of what a tolerant country won’t tolerate.

An alleged violent, armed attack in the name of ISIS in a Canadian Tire would qualify as one.

Even if she has Canadian citizenship, it should revoked and she be kicked out of the country as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Republican producers of racist ideas got down to business, demanding to see Obama’s birth certificate, questioning whether Barack Hussein Obama was really an American, and suggesting that only real Americans, who were white like McCain, could live in the White House of the United States. The Obama campaign released a scanned copy of his US birth certificate, but the rumours of Obama being born in Kenya or some Islamic anti-American nation did not suddenly go away. They were not started out of ignorance, so why would they go away out of knowledge?

A First Nations woman who was hit by a trailer hitch, thrown from a passing car in Thunder Bay, Ont., last January, has died.

Barbara Kentner, 34, required surgery after being hit in the abdomen by the trailer hitch on Jan. 29. She was released from hospital in time to take part in a walk in her honour on Feb. 5, but later returned to medical care.

Her sister, Melissa Kentner told CBC News in March that Barbara would not recover from her injuries. Melissa posted on Facebook early Tuesday that Barbara had died. She and other family members confirmed the death with CBC News.

The passenger in the car yelled, "Oh, I got one," after throwing the hitch at the sisters who were walking on McKenzie Street between Dease and Cameron streets, Melissa Kentner told CBC News in February.

The internal damage when Kentner was hit in the kidneys by the hitch was irreparable and proved fatal, her sister said.

"There is an escalation of violence in this city and we must not minimize these horrible situations," said Nishnawbe Aski Nation Deputy Grand Chief Anna Betty Achneepineskum in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

"A young Indigenous mother died today, and a young girl is without her morther — this should not happen."

Brayden Bushy, 18, was charged with aggravated assault relating to the incident. Thunder Bay police told CBC News they are looking into whether the charges will be changed, in light of Kentner's death.
