Gopher, My view is that all people can exhibit hypocritical behavior. I do not currently have a democratic laundry list of sins to present. But, if we tune in to the news, Im sure our fine politicians from both sides of the aisle can afford us many examples. Or we could do as Jesus instructed instead…Get the beam out of thine own eye first before removing the speck in the republicans, or democrats or libertarians etc etc

I do not believe there are "many right wing Christians that villify the poor". That is just a pot stirring comment. The right wing, left wing and no wing Christians/others I know volunteer at the food pantry and shelters with me. We don't fight about who is the most hypocritical & we don't villianize the people we serve.
And of course you don't let the right hand know what the left hand is doing . Anyone have tamboreen ?

We should talk to this lady...she seems to know a thing or 2 about being an unchristian christian.

n Kentucky a woman is under arrest after assaulting and robbing a disabled man because he said that he did not believe in God.

Police report that 49-year-old Laura Reid was visiting the disabled man in his home when she asked the victim if he believed in God. When the victim replied that he did not, Reid became angry and began beating the man with his metal cane, striking him on his head and body, and hitting him so hard that the cane broke.

According to the arrest warrant, the victim was unable to leave his home because of his disability, and Reid stayed there for three hours after the assault. When she finally left, she allegedly took the man’s cell phone, keys, $50 cash and a wallet containing credit cards.

WDRB reports:
Police say the man eventually crawled to a nearby gas station, where police and EMS were called. The man was taken to St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, where he was treated for injuries he sustained, including a concussion, a broken arm, multiple bruises, as well as cuts and abrasions.
The victim was eventually able to cancel his credit cards — and identify Reid, who was known to him, according to police.

Reid was arrested by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Tuesday, Jan. 5. She is charged with second degree assault, second degree robbery, and first degree unlawful imprisonment.

Bottom line: Admitting that you don’t believe in God can be dangerous, and at times even deadly. Last month a woman in Phoenix was placed under arrest after telling police that she shot and killed an atheist for not believing in God.

Well, most of the right wing evangelical tea baggers probably can't read and rely on their blood sucking preachers to tell them what to think. I'm pretty sure the author of that piece was thinking about those kinds of wackos.

Did your Shaman tell you that in his sweat lodge or did you see it in a meme?

Gimme that old time religion.............gimme that old time religion...

Have I ever indicated otherwise? The point I have always tried to make is that everybody has a right to believe whatever they want to. What I object to is people who say "my way is the only true way" because there are as many ways home as there are people. Your way is the only way for you. The journey home is a personal one. Everyone is right to themselves. To me, preaching about your way is a sign that your beliefs are on such shaky ground that you need others to support you. When it comes to your personal relationship with the divine, there is no strength in numbers. You either have faith or you don't. That faith should be enough to carry you home. How you imagine that to be is only relevant to you.

Sometimes, Cliffy..............you just blow me away. Beauty.

OK. Yours was only a general reference to possible inconsistencies on both sides. His reply cited specific examples.

What would cause hypocrisy in a human?

"For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing." (Romans 7:18-19 NIV)

Jesus Was Against Public Prayer

Those who argue for public prayer in such diverse settings as government meetings and football games don’t seem to know the Bible.
If they did, they would realize that Jesus was very much against it. In Matthew 6:1, he warns against practicing piety before others, saying that those who do will “have no reward from your Father in heaven.”
In Matthew 6:6, as a preface to the Lord’s Prayer, he says that to pray one should go into a room, close the door, and pray in secret. In fact, the King James Version of the Bible translates that as going into a closet to pray.
Perhaps even more significant is that in Matthew 6:5 Jesus harshly criticizes those who pray out loud in synagogues, the local worship settings of his day. Based on that, it seems possible, jolting as it may be, that he may have also disapproved of public prayer in churches, much less government meetings. - Michael David Johnson

The scripture says to go to your closet and pray in secret. In Judaism people often have a shawl they cover their head with when they pray. This is called a prayer closet. If I'm remembering correctly. The idea being not to try and put on a performance as to appear pious in front of others.

"What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:24-25 NIV)

Neither a prayer nor public, Cliffy. A written epistle addressed historically to a group of first century Christians.

Where do you pray?
In my head.

As far as I'm concerned, quoting Paul is like quoting Beevis and Butthead.
