Jeepers, Beavs. You just turned me into an athiest..
Surely, I jest. Good Old Schweitzer ain't got nuttin on knowing Jesus.
Sleeper, excellent selection of God's handiwork.
Beaver: You speak in riddles. Or, it could be that I am just a dunce. What other way did you go? Schweitzer's dismissal of Christ turned you into a believer?I can't account for your conversion, the material did not move me in the same way. You might say I went the other way.
Clifty: I am VERY tolerant of all religions that do not teach their followers that it is perfectly all right to attack innocent human beings; that do not teach that it is God's will to murder daughters that have "Stained the family Honor"; that teach that is is God's will to force others to join their faith or die; and those that do not rejoice when madmen of their religion commit acts that kill thousands of people. For you, Motar and cj44.
Let's hear why you find it so difficult to follow Jesus' teaching of tolerance.
Nope. Tell me, when you think of bubonic plague, or smallpox, or hyaenas, or rats, or leeches, do you think about the wonder and majesty of God and how amazing he must be to create creatures such as these?.
"Tyger! Tyger! burning bright"
Funny, when anyone mentions atrocities committed by Christians (ie: the slaughter of aboriginal peoples, residential schools, etc.) Oh it is not the Christian religion that teaches these practices. Those people do not represent Christianity and other excuses. But when Muslims do commit atrocities all of Islam is to blamed. Have you ever read Leviticus or Deuteronomy? Where do you think the Muslims got those ideas from? The Koran is a plagiarized version of the bible.Clifty: I am VERY tolerant of all religions that do not teach their followers that it is perfectly all right to attack innocent human beings; that do not teach that it is God's will to murder daughters that have "Stained the family Honor"; that teach that is is God's will to force others to join their faith or die; and those that do not rejoice when madmen of their religion commit acts that kill thousands of people.
I support any, and all, religions that teach peace and tolerance of others.
As the old saying goes, "Your rights end at the tip of my nose". That applies to religious rights too.
"Tyger! Tyger! burning bright"
I had to say the poem out loud to myself to figure out what his post mean...lolSpade- Quite beautiful. I had to look it up. Thanks.

Shall we all break out in a rousing rendition of "Give Some of the Old Time Religion"?

I used to belong to a folk singing group and a rock band and most recently to a native drum group (if you have ever heard pow wow drumming you would know how challenging that is). But this morning I tried to sing along with one of my old favourite songs and my voice completely failed me.cliffy, i didn't know you could sing.
Which organizations ran the residential schools? Which organization declared that since aboriginal peoples are not mentioned in the bible, they cannot possibly be human and therefore it is perfectly OK to kill them, enslave them and steal their land? Which organization started the crusades, sanctioned the slavery of blacks in America, burned witches, etc? What banner were they flying?I don't think these atrocities are committed by Christians, but rather fraud artists who misrepresent themselves for whatever perks they can acquire.
seeeeeeeeeeeee just another use it or lose it... :-(I used to belong to a folk singing group and a rock band and most recently to a native drum group (if you have ever heard pow wow drumming you would know how challenging that is). Ain't that the truth.seeeeeeeeeeeee just another use it or lose it... :-(
Those "savages" were already civilized, it just wasn't the same "civilized" as their tormenters.I think the residential schools were started with "good" intentions- to civilize the savages, or I should say "good intentions" by a bunch of meddlers who thought they were being "Christian" or maybe pretended they were being Christian.
I had to say the poem out loud to myself to figure out what his post mean...lol
I've been contemplating drumming.Ain't that the truth.
As a side note: we had a gathering a few years ago (about thirty people). We were drumming (native and African - I do both), didgeridoo, Tibetan bells and singing bowl, rattles, flutes and singers. The jam was magic. I looked over at a friend who was literally floating above his chair and he had a look on his face that I can only describe as a spiritual orgasm.

they were, you are right.Poems are meant to be recited out loud. Like curses, they are lost in silence.
