I love this comment. Totally ridiculous, as in deserving of ridicule. The church is not guilty of anything by preaching abstinence and MONOGOMY according to their doctorine. This may not be our cup of tea; however, there are plenty of NGOs passing out condoms in Africa at present. Christian churches (be it evangelical, catholic and so on) are under no obligation to against their beliefs, thus knowingly spreading HIV and killing millions.

No, the church does not allow birth conrtol in Africa. Condomes are extremley hard to get. They are threatening to withhold their funds. That is what is rediculous. This is being done by Christian extremists. Thus the point of the example. He said that Christian extremists were not around. But they are and this is just one example. I am in no way saying that every single death in Africa is because of the church, but they are one of many the causes.

Which Christian extremists, specifically? Could you provide a legitimate link supporting your comments about Christian extremists organizations or Christian churches controlling the flow of condoms and birth control into Africa? And by funds I'll assume you mean funds from the church, to individuals, right?

Also, just so we're clear, I do not want to see a link referencing George Bush's policy on funding to fight aids in Africa, but a link that supports your comments about the CHURCH (any Christian church or Christian organization) not allowing birth control into the continent of Africa.

Aha! So the Africans believe listening to the Church is more important than saving their people by using condoms? You can rest assured there are condoms to be had. If they prefer to listen to any Church rather than save their own lives that is their prerogative. Allow me to show you the stupidity of the Catholic Church.

In Kenya - where an estimated 20% of people have HIV - the church condemns condoms for promoting promiscuity and repeats the claim about permeability. The archbishop of Nairobi, Raphael Ndingi Nzeki, said: "Aids... has grown so fast because of the availability of condoms."

That is the dumbest statement I have ever seen. I thought Africans wanted to be rid of Western influence. Yet some of them listen to the idiotic Catholics. If they choose to listen to these idiots then they deserve to die. No one brings the deaths of millions of Africans upon themselves more than they do by their refusal to use condoms. These Africans are the same idiots who breed like rabbits in countries that are dirt-poor and therefore cannot feed a large population. If you are an African mother why do you have so many children in a country that cannot feed itself? Why do you have unprotected sex knowing your children may die as a result thus forcing you to have more? This is no vicious cycle. This is a moronic cyle.

In a nut shell I think we should tolerate there traditions and beliefs but when it becomes into the public domian, anybody be it Christian, Islamic or Hindu must respect our seculer societies beliefs formost.

I do not believe in religion. It should be limited to in-house worship. This means no churches, no temples, no mosques and no synagogues. Religion results in chaos.

The main difference is that there is not a worldwide network of Christian abortion doctor killers plotting the annihalation of all abortion doctors. Secondly, it would be difficult if not impossible to justify killing abortion doctors based on Christian scripture. Jihadi's use the Quaran to justify themselves all the time. Lastly, I don't think you will find that 60% of Christians support the killing of abortion doctors.

Those are the main three differences I can think of off the top of my head.

I just wanted to point out that they exist (someone said they didn't) and that it is the same mental process. I mostly agree, except for the part about them not being able to justify it acording to scripture. I watched Dawkins "Root of all Evil" where he interviewed a christian killers best friend and fellow zealot, these people seem to justify it in their own minds quite easily.

On the actual scale and impact there is a massive difference. I see fundementalist religion as a gateway meme to extremism. As far as I can tell this is one big difference, christianity is not in general practiced as a fundementalist religion, it is mainly moderate with pockets of fundementalism, the nutbar extremists come from those pockets.

By contrast Islams is practiced alsmost exclusively as a fundementalist religion and thus the breeding ground for extremists is expanded by several orders of maginitude.

What I am getting at is I think fundementalist religion is the real problem here, not Israel, not land etc. Fundementalist religion is like a ticking time bomb of the psyche, Christian,Jewish, or Islamic fundementalism, all are potential factories for madmen.

Only Islam currently has majority practice that is fundementalist. That is the real problem.

Learning english and/or french is not a law, it is a choice. Same goes for France and Spain. A person can choose to learn either language but we as a country will not force them to. It's one of those silly freedoms we enjoy in a democratic society..

Without a common language, there is no unity; without unity, there is no peace. Learning the local language is not a freedom but an obligation, a moral if not legal obligation. Here in China I do make the effort to elarn the local language, unlike most of my fellow Canadians here, I must say. they act just like some immigrants to Canada. So yes, if one goes to Canada, he learns the local language and that's that.

I am a Secular Humanist and I am aware of the bloody history of religion. Obviously I am not particularly fond of any religion.

History can be educational, but it doesn't describe what is happening in the world today. Today is what is important.

Fundamentalist religion is a gateway meme to extremism. In the world today Islam is essentially practiced as a fundementalist religion. It is the only religion where this is the Rule rather than the exception.

Thus Islam is uniquely positioned in modern times, with it's role as a producer of extremists and terrorists.

Islam is a religion of Peace is the biggest repeated joke I have ever heard.

Although we did build great ice temples everywhere to venerate our sovereign the Queen of England. You should come to Canada to see this at least. Brings tears to me eyes! But that isn't the point. The point is that there was a comment made saying there are "no christian extremists" which is obviously false. Noone is sayint that the muslim extremists aren't the most violent and crazy today.
