This thread is about theories as to who perpetrated this bombing. I've put forward one of the theories - that it was the IRA. So what's the problem?
Or are Americans uncomfortable with the idea that a terrorist organisation which many of them funded and armed for many years and saw them as "freedom fighters" have now detonated their bombs in America?

Could it be that your knowledge of American geography and demography doesn't include Chicago (where the Dalys were in power for decades), Baltimore (the Currans and the O'Malleys), and even New York?

There's a big difference between there actually being a reason it might be the IRA, and just wishing it was the IRA so you can be even more gleeful about the bombing than you were before.
No one knows who did this so reasons why it was done and by whom is speculation. What we do know is it was a matter of time before a sporting event would be a target for American haters. The Boston Marathon is the most famous marathon in the world. In hindsight it's a soft target; a difficult one to protect.
I do find it interesting that the usual cast of cheerleaders and responsibility takers have remained silent. No one is too quick to volunteer for life and times of Bin Laden these days.
