They grow than, good news in the book.

I think we should get all the people we can from anywhere in the world before the other does. This is if my theory about the future of man is right. I take the blame for my today politic.

You should post here more often.

Looks like Whitey is getting an inferiority complex. Could it be karma coming back to bite his ass? We overran this continent murdered or otherwise marginalized the indigenous population and now we are getting overrun by people from all over the planet. Now Whitey is scared that the same thing is going to happen to him. Ooooo! Me thinks the shoe is on the other foot and it don't feel too comfortable, eh!.

Cliffy, you never gave me any reason to presume that you, yourself were anything but "Whitey".

Why are you so self-loathing, guilt-ridden and chuck full of political correctness and suicide wish?

Well, I see you are kinda stuck in your concepts so perhaps I should try to explain the facts of life as I see them. Whitey, to me, is the European settler culture that over ran this continent and did a lot of nasty stuff to the indigenous people. I was never comfortable with what my ancestors had done so I opted out of that culture and moved into the forest to live as close to the land as I could and do as little damage to the land as I could. While living in the forest I discovered, very quickly, that my upbringing had not prepared me for this transition. It was a struggle at first but eventually I became more in tune with the other creatures of the forest nad we began to get along just fine. But there were a lot of questions coming up that I had no understanding of and I found that the indigenous teachings were far more in tune with what I was experiencing than my Catholic upbringing had provided.

So I spent years studying their views of reality, then one day I met a Cree woman who invited me to Morley Alberta to the Aboriginal Ecumenical Conference, a ten day spiritual retreat with 4000 indigenous people representing most of the North American tribes. Many of those there were spiritual elders, others had come to reclaim their heritage and a handful of "whites" like myself who had come to heal our guilt. This was in 1978. I have made peace with myself and my aboriginal brothers and sisters and am accepted as one of them. I am also a member of the greater dominant culture and enjoy a certain amount of respect here too. I find the indigenous people very accepting, loving and generous, much more so that how the dominant culture treats them.

So to clarify: Whitey is the less accepting and caring dominant culture made up of mostly European descendants who are now beginning to feel overrun by other foreign elements. I have no problem with any of them, I have no guilt about the past and my community includes any and all who share this space on the planet with me.

Cliffy, as an immigrant, who arrived in Canada knowing not a single word of English or French, I can tell you that your struggles were nothing compared to mine. After all, your struggles had nothing to do with surviving in a strange world.

Unlike you, I was always comfortable with what the white settlers did and accomplished in North America, because my people people have been conquered by the Tatars, Turks, Austrians, Germans and Soviets, and learned that to bitch about history that can not be changed does not obligate me to hold a life long grudge and it does not obligate the aforementioned peoples to feel guilty.

I met a wonderful Canadian girl 43 years ago, married her and we are still happily married.

Besides her, I found that most Canadians were caring and accommodating people who accepted me as I was, with my thick accent, notwithstanding, I suspect, because I always treated people the way I hoped and expected to be treated.

Neither myself nor my ancestors were responsible for whatever real or perceived wrongs the aboriginal peoples might have suffered, so I refuse to feel guilty as a "whitey'. If I did I would be politically correct and to me that the absolutely worst thing anyone could ever call me.

By your yardstick, I am probably one of the 'foreign elements'. If that makes you feel better, I readily accept your accusations that "whitey's" are the reason and cause of all the ills of the world. I hope that you will also accept the FACT that 'Whitey's inventions allow the people you seem to be beholden to to use guns, snowmobiles, modern clothes and food, trucks etc.

I compliment you for showing your compassion for aboriginal people. I was beaten, robbed and left for dead by aboriginal people in my first year here as an immigrant. I learned not to write all native people off because of that. Neither did I ever called them anything similar to your 'whitey' comment.

All parties support the current high level of 300,000 immigrants per year. There has been and there will not be any debate about this in the current campaign. Ergo, there is agreement across the political spectrum about immigration policy. Unemployment up? Keep immigration high, no problem. Gotta keep paying off that endless colonial guilt.

Right, it is not written down, and in the late 1980s when immigration was increased to the current high levels, there was no public debate about this. The rubes need not be consulted on inherent racism. The elites decided it was good, so the floodgates were opened and remain open.

Kinda obvious some of the effects of the kool-ade are wearing off for you.

Got no idea what your kool-ade comment means. Was it supposed to be some sort of witticism? In any case we have discussed immigration in several threads and it generally comes back to the same thing. Xenophobes don't like immigration and those who understand the problems associated with a declining population do. I see no reason to put Canada in the position of Russia or Japan in terms of population growth and that is exactly what will happen without immigration.

Russia isn't growing because their economy sucks and law and order is negotiable there. They don't manufacture anything. Their economy as understand it, is largely based on oil and resources. So, it's one bg Alberta, with tons more corruption.

Right now, there are numerous govt programs at all levels that spend hundreds of millions of dollars on immigration. This money could perhaps be better spent to pay Canadian women to have a third child. Presto, immigration is not needed. Our slowing population growth is reversed and we get greater internal birthrates. I like that solution.

Being oposed to immigration is not racist. Immigration is a govt policy that can be changed, It is not set in stone. Different people have different visions of the country and one person's view is not necessarily racist because it does not jive with the media's currrent definition of multiculturalism. Canadians need to develop some independent thought. But it can hurt.

Putting limitations on immigration growth gives me mixed feelings on one had I have trouble limiting immigrants who are educated, especially with specialties we need. On the other hand limiting immigration to those who have no skills could be a viable idea. It would create a controllable time line in order to train them to be a viable part of the system.

When I was growing up in Montreal, I was beaten up constantly for being English. Do I hate the French? No. My first three lovers were French. I love the French.

The "Whitey" comment was meant to be derogatory because of all the whining on here by certain elements on here about our perceived immigration "problem", the ongoing arrival of Mexican migrant workers, East Indian, Arab and others of darker complexion than those doing all the whining.

I understand, Cliffy.

But would you justify a derogatory comment, using similar/corresponding name-calling if it was directed at blacks, gays, Pakistanis, natives, etc.?
