Yes I think the U.S.A. is the greatest country in the world. It has accomplished much in it's short existence whille many countries as old as the world itself have not progressed at all.
But I also think the U.S.A. will lose its status soon if it doesn't curb socialism and immigration.
U.S. standards of living are much like Canada's. The countries I have travelled to do not have a standard of living that would measure up, imo.
Canada and U.S. together could get along nicely without the rest of the world. We can grow or manufacture everything we need. I wish North America would opt out of globalization and become self sustaining.

I have to agree with most of that. However with the evolution of technology which makes the world a "smaller" place, I doubt if we'll ever satisfactorily divorce ourselves from the rest of the world. I think there are also benefits of being part of a world community, if for no other reason we get a closer look at their trials and tribulations and realize just how lucky we are in so many ways.

We in the United States feel that President Obama is doing this intentionally, letting the price of Gasoline rise untill it costs to much to produce and transport food and other essential goods. Thus breaking the American middle class. The poor will get poorer, but still get freebies from the government. Middle class make to much to qualify. In places like Louisiana we have oil wells that owners are being paid to keep in the ground. (wells just capped off that could pumped out at a cost of .50 cents a barrel.) It is time we told OPEC what to do instead of the other way around.

Example of U.S. mineral rights laws.

Didn't Obama say in a speech aomething about (I'm paraphrasing) ...energy prices will rise necessarily..? Look out folks, the s**t is about to hit the fan!

Obama promised that "energy prices would rise necessarily" and so they are. Watch out folks, it's just getting interesting! I agree that the US is in major ca ca poo poo and the best that Canadians can do is ... be prepared.

I think the USA has peaked, Its all down hill from here.
You may be right, but I certainly hope you aren't. If there's to be one global power, the USA, because of its traditions and history and founding values, is pretty benign compared to the other possibilities, and history. Imagine if it were China, with its well known lack of respect for human life and human rights, or India, or Brazil... Or think about what life was like for colonized people when the colonizing powers were Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Britain, France... What would you prefer? Given that there will always be such a global power, I'd vote for the USA any time.

What I wish, what is best and what is reality are all different things.
Canada the USA need to take some huge step forward in all departments.
All the other's are catching up real fast. The only way USA stay on top is world war 3.

Congress is voting on permanent war right now actually.
You may all get your wish after all.

America's House of Representatives Endorses Perpetual War Bill

Don't fool yourself, the USA don't give a **** any more then china gives a crap about people.
I have more respect for China not hiding there wrong actions then the USA covering everything up, and pretending to be all goody goody.

A couple of things to remember about America.

They gave us the idea of national parks. If you want to show the world the good side of a country, show them a national park.

They also gave us philanthropy. Now it is common to help others around the world when they are struck by devastating misfortune and in need of a hand to get back on their feet.

Both these ideas came from the good old USA.

While it's often that we focus on the problems we have, the country has, the world has, it too is good to now and again remember the positive steps we have taken that make the world a better place.

Yellow Stone National Park is the first of it's kind and set a precedent around the world.

That is a distinct possibility..........to be replaced by China. It would just be the continuation of a trend that has prevailed through history, with the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Vikings, Spanish, British etc. They all meet their "Waterloo".

I don't think China will become a superpower in either yours or my lifetime for that matter. For one, they would require a military equal to or greater then the US. Sure, they have a couple million soldiers but they do not have carrier fleets that can project power anywhere in the world and their technology is still fairly primitive compared to the US. Also, I highly doubt the US would willingly cede "world superpower" status to China.

I guess I have a hard time looking passed the fact America is the only country in the world to have bombed other humans 2 times with a nuclear type weapon, 1 week after Japan sent message of surrender. Sorry guy's, theres nothing you can do or say to make up for that.

You all sit here and say how China is bad. Until they nuke someone, the USA is still the worst country in the world. Now a days they make all their weapons with nuclear waist and drop it everywhere they go.

The only good they do is to keep you distracted so you don't see all the insane evil they are doing in your name all over the world. there media is a clown show.

Well if they had sent the message one week before they wouldn't have got nuked! They're lucky we didn't have three!

I knew what you meant though... but you need a history lesson.

You all sit here and say how China is bad.

Oh man you need to study that part of the war and specifically what Japan was doing at the time to understand why both places were bombed. It wasn't just Pearl Harbour, but all the atrocities leading up to, during and while Japan was in negotiation for a cease of aggression. Bombing both cities was exactly the thing to do.

American hands aren't clean but then again they aren't as dirty as some others. As well I pointed out a couple of things that have also come from the USA that has become one of the finest examples of humankind, aid when others are in need for example.

You're a guy and clever too, when you can go live abroad for a while and visit some of these other countries if you can. Nothing brings it into focus like hands on experience.

There may have been a very small justification for dropping nukes on Japan though since it was done we will never know what the results of it not being done would have been.

While the list of horrible things the US has done to promote war and global control is very long I would look to more recent events like using depleted uranium shells in Fallujah as being one of the worst things they have ever done. A country that supposedly condemns use of such weapons by anyone else doesn't have a problem using them for their own purposes.

How long did it take the United States to become a superpower? Only a few decades at the most. Starting at the first world war as a middling power to the end of the second world war when only two countries remained. So how much do you think you have left to live? ;)

But China has said that it's not interested in the kind of global power projection the US is capable of. One might be inclined to believe them because what good is it to them anyway? Then again, power has a great way of justifying its own perpetual expansion.

One very real problem China is facing in the future which will slow down any superpower ambitions is the demographic mess the one child policy has given it. Within the next generation the Chinese population is going to collapse spectacularly.

Do you think that the use of DU in Fallujah was the first time? You act like it was a new weapon. It was used 10X as much during the Gulf War and really... who gives a BLEEP.

DU is harmless unless you are in a tank or AV. We have gone over this so many times. As long as tanks roam the battlefield, DU WILL be used. What pi**es the people off was the absolute efficiency of the weapon and its deployment. Tough.

And the US has never condemed the use of DU and we aren't the only country who has used them.

However the dangers of asbestos is well known and has killed millions of people world wide. But instead of an instant death you get a slow painful death as your lungs fill with fluid and you wither away. Just another example of your hypocrisy.
