I think I have 5 credit cards - 2x Amex, 1 x Visa, 2xMCard.

I pay the bills off in full each month.

All you have to do is not spend more than you can afford to.

For those who have no credit cards, how do you travel, stay in hotels, rent cars, etc?

It's great that you pay them all off at the end of the month... but why even have 5 credit cards?

Put it all on AmEx and pay one card. The potential debt of five credit cards is staggering.

Personally, if I want to make a big purchase, I make sure I can afford it right then and there. I charge it on the AmEx and pay it off at the end of the month.

Guess what? I actually have a credit card that makes ME money. The trick is to make money you have to pay it in full monthly. At the end of every year I get credited with 1% of the total charges for the year. It's best to be quiet about it- we don't want the bank to find out they are losing money on something.

You are credit wise EagleSmack. I cut up my last Visa back in the late eighties. I think that was the best budgeting I ever did.

I had one credit card when I was in my 20's. I found myself charging a little here... charging a little there. Before I knew it I had accumulated about $1,000 in debt. To ME that was a lot. I cut the card and paid it off. Everything else I used with a debit. I got an AmEx because it was a pain to always call the bank and clear a large purchase with a $300 per day debt limit on a debit card.

Don't most places still accept cash? I'd refrain from dealing with anyone who doesn't - it's just one more case of the tail wagging the dog. I think carrying a credit card is a good idea- it can save embarrassment if the engine blows in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night, but to use one on a whim when you don't have the money in the bank to back it up is ludicrousy.

I suppose that makes me arrogant, but none can compare to the USA, even with all her faults. Now let's get to work fixing the problems we do have :D

Nothing wrong with being arrogant when you are right, as for ignorant, I do not think so. American still designs and builds the best of just about everything in the world. Care to match up inventions that run this world.

It would seem to me that most of the inventions that do actually come out of the US are from immigrants....The US does have a few good inventions of their own..the stock market crash, the bank bail-out, the corrupt government.

''Oh yeah... they adore us all over the world now that Obama is the President.
Good grief.''

World Likes U.S. More Under Obama

RealClearPolitics - World Likes U.S. More Under Obama

''
As approval ratings for Barack Obama decline at home, world opinion of the United States is rising steadily under his stewardship.
A new international survey by the British Broadcasting Company reveals that views of the U.S. around the world have "improved sharply" during the first year of the Obama presidency, with positive opinion outweighing negative for the first time since 2005, when the BBC first polled this question.

Whether the improvement helps him politically or not, Obama's popularity abroad --and the contrast between his policies and those of the preceding administration -- will enhance American influence and advance American interests.

The BBC's findings, derived from a four-month survey that reached nearly 30,000 people in 28 nations, clearly demonstrate the significance of what pollsters call "the Obama effect."

'''Good grief. '''

Nice list, did you notice how many of those were born in other countries. And how can you really pay much attention to that anyway when so many 'peace' prizes are give to the most war-mongering nation on the planet and a whole crapload are for economics.

Can you say bank bailout? Can you say stock market crash? Can you say multi trillion dollar debt? I know you can.;-)

I'd be reluctant to compare dicks with you since you sound so hardened propagandist. Like the Russians before Russia collapsed. Trust me, your arogance is based on ignorance so common with Americans. The only things you do right is produce wapons of mass or regular destruction and scare the hell out of the rest of the oil producing countries.
NOTHING else you do is worth buying by a person who knows comparisons in Europe. And since your knowledge of that part of the world is severly limited, I'm not interested to listen to propaganda.
Do not blame yourself though, they don't teach you about the world at school because it is the part of the scheme to keep you fanaticaly devoted and non-critical about your own country (sorry if I'm assuming wrongly and you are Non-American, it just sounds so from your message).
Google Switzerland and Direct-democracy and LEARN before you make strong statements.
Good luck to you
