I don’t think anybody doubts that US always has good intentions. Unfortunately, their actions are not always consistent with good intentions.

Their policies are often short sighted. Thus they supported the mujaheedin against Soviets, to help Afghanistan fight off the Communist aggression. Unfortunately they aided an enemy worse than Communism, mujaheedin morphed into the Taliban.

Or they helped Saddam as a counter weight against Iran. They regarded him as a friend, gave him all kind of help (there is the famous photograph of Rumsfeld shaking Saddam’s hand). In that, they aided and abetted a brutal, vicious dictator.

Good intentions are not enough one must look at the result of America’s actions.
Lets look at the results. Some think it is arrogance, I think some in the world are like a child that has been given to much.

Our European arrogance in alphabetical order
1. The American Cemetery at Aisne-Marne, France. A total of 2289 of our military dead.
2. The American Cemetery at Ardennes, Belgium. A total of 5329 of our dead.
3. The American Cemetery at Brittany, France. A total of 4410 of our military dead. Excuse us.
4. Brookwood, England American Cemetery. A total of 468 of our dead.
5. Cambridge, England. 3812 of our military dead.
6. Epinal, France American Cemetery. A total of 5525 of our Military dead.
7. Flanders Field, Belgium. A total of 368 of our military.
8. Florence, Italy. A total of 4402 of our military dead.
9. Henri-Chapelle, Belgium. A total of 7992 of our military dead.
10. Lorraine, France. A total of 10,489 of our military dead.
11. Luxembourg, Luxembourg. A total of 5076 of our military dead.
12. Meuse-Argonne. A total of 14246 of our military dead.
13. Netherlands, Netherlands. A total of 8301 of our military dead.
14. Normandy, France. A total of 9387 of our military dead.
15. Oise-Aisne, France. A total of 6012 of our military dead.
16. Rhone, France. A total of 861 of our military dead.
17. Sicily, Italy. A total of 7861 of our military dead.
18. Somme, France. A total of 1844 of our military dead.
19. St. Mihiel, France. A total of 4153 of our military dead.
20. Suresnes, France. a total of 1541 of our military dead.
Apologize to no one. Remind those of our sacrifice and don’t confuse arrogance with leadership.
If I added correctly the count is 104,366 dead.
And we have to watch an American elected leader who apologizes to Europe and the Middle East that our country is “arrogant”!
HOW MANY FRENCH, DUTCH, ITALIANS, BELGIANS AND BRITS ARE BURIED ON OUR SOIL, DEFENDING US AGAINST OUR ENEMIES??
WE DON’T ASK FOR PRAISE … BUT WE HAVE ABSOULUTELY NO NEED TO APOLOGIZE!!

On a personal note, I kinda like the Yanks.

I have been treated exceptionally well on my rare trips to the USA.

On the site where I work, we had a number of American oilmen.........friendly and helpful to a fault, especially the big Texan project safety manager with the NRA hat....:) Seriously.

Wonderful people. Same as Canadians....just trust their gov't less, love their guns more.

Maybe smarter than Canadians........:p

What is it with you and your gun loving????

I was just trying to differentiate between "giving a man a fish" and "teaching the man to fish"...............the first can be detrimental, the latter can be beneficial.:smile:
Exactly. There are a lot of fat people sitting around waiting for someone to give them that 'fish'...

You're basically bang on Colpy- but I think when it comes to smarts Canadians have the edge with one exception- the hospitality industry, in that area the Yanks are ahead hands down. Americans may be slightly more generous too.

The U.S. gave me hope and opportunity when doors were closed to me in Canada I will never forget the optimism of the people here - the "get er done" attitude when you are staring at a blank wall wondering what to do next? Not everyone loves that openness but I found it a place in which to thrive. Curio

WOOT! That's great, Curio. :)
I guess a part of life is a struggle to find the niche one can call a comfortable home base. :)

my opinion of the u.s.a......... egotistical, self centred, war mongering, uneducated, terrorists. A bain on the world. No different or worse than AlQueda, North Korea, Iran or any other that you could think of as the u.s. has nuclear weapons and is the only country past and present that has ever used them on civilian populations.

Not to many really care what you think, were happy with ourselves, especially after 1-1 tie with England in the World Cup.

well, you are entitled to your opinion.

But let me remind you that in many of those wars the USA has fought in the last 100 years they were our ally......and in the largest two the war-mongering USA was in AFTER us.

Not only that, after World War Two the USA, through the Marshall Plan rebuilt much of the world at her own expense....including, BTW, the countries of her enemies. One could easily argue that America's largess is a major reason the old divides did not rise again in Europe, as they did so quickly after the Great War.

Uneducated? Many of the world's very best universities are in.....the USA.......the country that has won the most Nobel Prizes in sciences....the USA.....the country that first put a man on the moon? That is going out into space faster than anyone? That has military technology unmatched in the world?

Need I say it? The USA.

As for that use of nukes.....I know there are still living a few men that would smack you with their canes at the very suggestion....the POWS of the Japanese....

The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives. Casualty figures estimated for an Allied invasion (that would have included Canadians in force).....1 million.......and tens of millions of Japanese, who were told Allied soldiers were cannibals and sex maniacs, and were armed with spears to fight them.......

And worst of all, the idiotic suggestion that the USA is on par with North Korea and Iran.......beneath argument even. The yanks have their problems, but they are one of the Good Guys.

I suggest you seek counseling.....such irrational, unreasoned bitterness and hatred can't be healthy.

And I'm serious.

I'm sure you are, just like I'm sure that members of AlQueda are happy with themselves and have no problem justifying the murders that they are responsible for.

I probably have made a few of Mohammed's followers very happy by introducing them to the Hadith, and the Gardens in Paradise.
