So what you are saying is the whole system has to be revamped. The truth is lots of food is ending up in the garbage can. Perhaps production has to be slowed to a slower pace. 60% wastage rate is an indication that prices are about 40% too high to begin with.
Firstly - i feel obligated to question your 40- 60 percent wastage number........................
I DO KNOW that there is wastage but 50 percent seems absurd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And based on the video from tv show W5 it seems the wastage is mostly confined to certain types of food..........................
often vegetables and baked goods.......................................
any waste is of course not good...............................
but it does seem to be an integral part of the food chain that there will be left overs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The markets AINT DUMPING SIRLOIN STEAKS AND ROASTS you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not often anyway - not when it can be easier to grind it up and sell it as hamburger if necessary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
frankly if the markets were disposing of 50 percent of their food stocks one would have to assume
that every food market in town WOULD REEK OF ROTTING FOOD ALL SUMMER LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Think of the reek of those industrial garbage bins coated with bits of decayed food in summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How could they dispose of that much stuff without producing an eye watering stench????????????????
And think of thr cost to truck it all away - such extravagance would quickly bring logical changes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Otherwise markets would be driven out of biz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Efficient markets would compete to strangle sloppy markets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The issue of "food waste" appears to have been blown out of proportion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
