What is an appropriate level of "gun" control?

You don't know much about anything, do you?
But that doesn't stop him from pretending he does.

You should see it when you confront him with of all things, his own words, or expose one of his many egregious errors. It's funny as hell to watch his fragile ego flail around. Memories of SJP.

I have always enjoyed reading old American folk lore. Up to just a few decades ago the traditional birthday gift for a boy was a rifle. This ended about the time of the Great Depression when so many people became too poor to buy one and when people were forced to leave the rural areas for the big cities where guns are prohibited. I have read where some families have given young boys rifles as gifts for Christmas but this appears to be true only among wealthier classes for sporting rather than hunting.

After I made my post here, I remembered an old episode from "Dragnet" about a certain Christmas gift - coincidentally, the video was posted on youtube just today:

How can you defend yourself against tyranny with guns when tyranny uses tanks?
I'm a handy kind of guy and can make my own C-4. Potassium Perchlorate is fun to play with and I can buy ammonium nitrate buy the semi load with my farm license.

I'm smart enough to turn an Abrams into rust in miliseconds.

And I can buy a plethora of off the shelf explosives with my geological exploration company.

PM me and I'll set you up with supplies.

I wouldn't quibble about the appropriateness of a gun for Christmas if someone were to present me with a BOSS O/U in, say, 20 ga., choked mod.& imp.

Generally speaking the usual presents I got were along the lines of Old Spice after shave, and argyle socks...........well, ya have to ACT excited, eh. Tis Christmas after all. Thank god the guns were locked up when I opened the argyles. lol and wink too.

Gun control, yep, make sure the person is not nuts...........?...........has a safety course.........no criminal record..........no record of wearing a strait jacket (see #1)............and perhaps is not an anarchist.......or a jihad nutbar.

Loose cannons who slip through the cracks, and criminals will always be with us. Price we pay for being a respectful gun allowing society.

In my world owning a Harrier Jet, bazooka, or RPG would not be allowed. Sorry. Not fit for hunting.

Luke 22:35-39 And He said to them, "When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they said, "Nothing." 36 Then He said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37 "For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: 'And He was numbered with the transgressors.' For the things concerning Me have an end." 38 So they said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." 39 Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.

And then the Lord said: "For Frodo!"

I generally find it amusing when people like Colpy use bible quotes in a feeble attempt to make a point since the bible contradicts itself in so many ways. For example, were I to quote a bible verse in response to Colpy, it would probably be Matthew 5, 38-41.

"Jesus said, "You have learnt how it was said: 'Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.' But I say to you, Offer the wicked man no resistance. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; if a man takes you to law and would have your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone orders you to go one mile, go two miles with him.""

It's easy to cherry pick lines from the book to try and back up a claim. In this particular case, Colpy makes himself look pretty foolish. Only a real religious nutter would think Jesus is good with guns and violence.

I am an absolute amateur at making myself look foolish, compared to present company.

In no way does the passage you quote direct the listener to submit to serious violence; a slap on the cheek is one thing, an attack bent on murder is something else. There is no contradiction between the above verse, and the ones I quoted, in which Christ advises his disciples to be armed during a long trip.

Who said "Jesus is good with guns and violence"?????????????

You made a fool of yourself by trying to debase my parents' religion, and my family traditions with a stupid picture, for no purpose other than your own ignorance and lack of manners.

Jesus went haywire in the temple.

Maybe because it was being used for commerce and gambling? Hmmm... kinda the same thing that goes on today what with bingos and such, can't say he was wrong. Fundraising is one thing, but gambling tends to bring out the worst in human nature, for both winners and losers and shouldn't be considered innocent fun, especially under the roof of a church or temple.

They were ripping people off on exchange rates and animals to sacrifice., It wasn't gambling.

Don't bring CB into this.
I was wondering how long it would take for you start crying around the board, after I helped you make a fool of yourself in that other thread.

There is absolutely no doubt about why I find you hilarious.
