Did you know that the Harpers run a stray cat rescue from the Prime Minister's home? Laureen Harper has been responsible for a very large number of kitten adoptions.
Let's all stop with the doomsday p redictions and see how the Conservative governmnet performs, okay? I think if the Harper Haters open their minds, they'll find that things will run quite smoothly and happily for Canadians as a whole.

Well said, oldrebel. I notice the media is having a hard time coming to grips with a more relaxed Stephen Harper - they were so convinced he was the 'devil' they had made him out to be that having to admit they might have been wrong is sticking in their craws - it looks good on them.

Many people were able to see the 'other' side of Stephen Harper during the Olympics and really started questioning the image of him that was often portrayed in the media. They had a hard time reconciling the stiff, authoritarian Harper with the man who leapt to his feet to cheer Canada or grinned like a kid as he sat next to Wayne Gretzky. There will always be Harper-haters, or Layton-haters - pick your politician and he/she probably has hate-groupies.

Mr. Harper is routinely depicted as a cross between Darth Vader and Lord Voldemort, whose soulless band of Death Eaters will destroy democracy in Canada if they get the chance. They have successfully convinced themselves (and a large but shrinking part of the electorate) that a vote for Mr. Harper is un-Canadian.
It’s not uncommon to find this paranoid streak in the smartest salons of Ottawa and Toronto. Strange to say, it reminds me of those Republican wing-nuts who believe Barack Obama isn’t really an American.

Well said, Margaret Wente!!

It's true that People have misread Harper. They expect a politician to be grinning and slapping backs all the time and much-speaking. If he isn't like that, he's cold and arrogant. WRONG!
Harper's down-to-earth, reserved and much too honest to put on a phony front. If he smiles, he means it. And that's worth a million phony smiles, to me. Harper's got his head on solidly and his feet on the ground, something most politicians haven't. He's more focused on running the country's affairs efficiently than on charming people.
I think his family life and his clean record speak well of him. I hope he does well not that he won't be beleaguered at every turn by the opposition.

Yes - It was referring to his earlier campaign when on TV he had that blue sweater - Guess you missed the point.
I got the point just fine. I just don't see what a guy wears has anything to do with anything. Damned petty! You don't like blue sweaters, don't wear one!.

Not a bad article by Maggie - though I do wish she would spend some time with Stephen in order to get over her idea that he is emotionally challenged. She seems to believe that wearing your emotions on your shirt-sleeve is something that a PM should aspire too. The startling appearance of rictus that passed for a smile from Iggy was far more disturbing than Mr Harper's controlled countenance. And what did Jack get for all his smiles - an electorate in Quebec that cared less for his policies than for the smiles. Myself, I know that Stephen has his emotions well under control when necessary and very much on show when it comes to his favorite sport - hockey. Just as they should be, IMHO.

Did someone piss in your corn flakes this morning?

I actually agree that your clothes have much to do with anything. If you wear nicer clothes people tend to look at you different but that doesn't mean that you are different.

F*** the clothes, neat and clean is what is important (and avoid offensive labels on the T-shirts)

I'll be watching he not turn Canada into a police state. Its already on its way. I just want to slow it down so at least I don't have to live in it, before I'm dead.

Next Generation is open season. do we have a deal Mr. Harper?

Hehe. just joking =)

A police state would involve the LIBERAL gun agenda of disarming citizens.
