Some Pearl Harbor event? Just who is going to bomb us and why would they even bother? You do realize that though this election is important to Canadians, it is hard a blip on the radar of other countries. I think you have to take a very deep breath EAO - truly.
I honestly hope so. I'm afraid that it will be 4 more years of Harper/Flaherty/Conservative management, though. But we can always dream. After all, now that they have a clear majority, there is no one to blame for spending like drunken who res with a sugar daddy's amex card. I have a dream. And that dream is a fiscally responsible government. No cuts to taxes until the deficit is controlled.
I am so glad that the Bloc was decimated. The Bloc stood for one thing and one thing only - Quebec. It cared not a whit for the rest of Canada. It ran candidates in Quebec and Quebec alone - it was never a national party and never will be. The best thing to come out of this election, besides our Conservative majority, is the fact the Bloc no longer have any power in the House.

And start cutting. Medicare and the military are exceptions, but everything else needs to be looked at. Go through the budget, and the civil service, with a flamethrower in one hand and a machete in the other. Slash and burn.

Regional representation is the best way to ensure that regional issues that require federal action actually receive attention from the gov't. No one lobbies as hard for an issue to be dealt with as someone with a vested interest in making sure that it is done.
I remember Ralph Klien stating the the Healthcare costs in Alberta are greater than ALL provincial personal income taxes collected. Anyone can see that - although healthcare is damned important - we are facing some very serious problems in rising healthcare costs.

I have no problem cutting arts funding, as long as we cut funding to sports as well.
First past the post is fine in principle, as long as you recognize you're voting for a candidate, not a party, and as such the candidate has no obligation whatsoever to his party, only to his constituents.
We'll have to cut more than that to feed the voracious war machine. It costs a lot to root out the boogieman ya know.
Okay, so, I'm sure this has been thought of already - but let's just have two votes then.
One regional and one federal.

Foreign aid would be first on my list, cut that before chopping our programs apart.

The art of war is the most profitable art of all. We Canadians will come to love it or we will not eat or sleep in peace in our own lands. God damn the stinking conservative party of Canada.
Not everything needs to directly generate a profit. There's many events across Canada that do not generate a profit of its own but does drive money towards hotels, restaurants etc. Calgary Stampede, Toronto Internal Jazz Festival being two off the top of my head.
In theory they take our message to Ottawa and pound on Harper's desk, deliver our message, then kick him in the nuts to make sure he got it. :lol:
