Apparently a couple of the girls have "left the flock" and are speaking out now too. Too bad more won't do so; I feel really sorry for the little kids being brainwashed into this.
I feel sorry for any kid being brainwashed into any religion. To me it is child abuse. Morals, ethics and principles can be taught without scaring the crap out of them with divine retribution and passing judgement on all other religious beliefs.

Funny.

I feel absolutely privileged to have been brought up in a loving and strictly religious Baptist family.

You will find no better people anywhere.

Tolerant (yep, tolerant), helpful, honest to a fault, where family counts more than anything...........a refuge from the world, even after I hit my teens and took up some seriously rebellious ways...........

No scare tactics used, thank you.

Yup. Baptists are good gawd fearin' people.

I was terrorized by the catholic church growing up. Switched to the aboriginal spiritual practice in my 20s. Nothing to fear; no judgement, no retribution, no sin, no hell, no devil. Just the Great Mystery, Nature, the cosmos and being thankful for being alive.

Funny, there are a bunch of people in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam who would tell you that resistance to the will of the USA is quite possible without nukes.

I doubt the Soviet Union and China would have just sat back and watched if the US had dropped a nuke on Vietnam. So in a way they were protected by nukes. Same during the Korean War.

What was there to fear?

I never understood the whole "God fearing" thing. If I have to be afraid of a person, animal or supernatural being then Im definitely not going to have much respect for it much less worship it.

Church didn't use any intimidation tactics on me.

Nor I, at least not directly. The threat of eternal hell fire can be intimidating to a kid though. "Do this, or else!" I still occasionally get that 'threat' now but it isnt intimidating to me anymore as im not a child anymore. I find it rather amusing when people use that line on me now.

Never got any of that crap from the RCs. Just the message of be good, do good, and you'll have a good life and nice damp cloud to hang out on in the afterlife.

You were fortunate. It didnt really bother me much but I know some who were totally paranoid through their childhood over it.
