Yeah, what happened to them, they were up 3 - 0 at the end of the first, then it all
went away.

It seems like they had ghosts of last season come and visit them in the night.:x

The Rangers suffered their first loss of the season, and Anaheim lost again(now they are 0-4). Selanne has only 1 point in 4 games, so I may choose a new Mystery Pick person. I am torn between Alexander Semin(Washington, with 6 points in 3 games) or Fabian Brunnstrom(Dallas. He scored a hat trick tonight in his first ever NHL game).

Thousands turn out for funeral of Rangers prospect
Wednesday, 10.15.2008 / 11:10 AM / News
Associated Press
MOSCOW (AP) -Family, friends, teammates and thousands of fans paid their last respects Wednesday to Alexei Cherepanov, the 19-year-old rising hockey star who died after suffering heart problems during a game outside Moscow.
The cause of his death was still under investigation, federal investigators said Wednesday. A first-round draft pick for the New York Rangers, Cherepanov collapsed on the bench during a game Monday outside Moscow.

Very, very sad.:-( He was only 19 years old. Eerily similar to the Windsor Spitfire player who collapsed and passed away last year.:-(

Yes, very similar, but no one will really ever know if he could have been saved, as
the medical help was far too slow, the ambulance was somewhere else, and not at
the rink where it was suppose to be, most of the time.
He was packed off the ice by other players, as there was no stretcher.
If there had been the proper equipment and medical personnel on site,
he might have been revived.
And, apparantly they finished the game, then checked on him to see how
he was doing, don't know where he was at that time, hopefully at a hospital,
but the information coming out of russia is 'vague' at present.

That is what the players agents warn them before taking the contracts there. While the money is very nice not all of the rinks have the same kind of medical services as they can get in the NHL. While there are many things to knock about the NHL, the medical part is not one of them. They have medical staff and an ambulance standing by EVERY rink and have defibrillators available as well(they even have one for practices!). When the player got his neck cut last year I wonder what might have happened had it not occurred in an NHL rink.

He probably would have died, only takes a few minutes to bleed out. very scary.
I'm sure there is some second thoughts for some of those players over there.
Yagr was on his team, wonder what his thoughts are right now.

Washington won again. They look to be a very good team right now, and are scoring lots of goals(while keeping the puck out of their net). Ovechkin was pointless again tonight, but the rest of the team really picked up the slack.

St. Louis is a goal-scoring machine right now. They've got at least 5 goals against Dallas tonight(game is still on)! Kariya seems to have rejuvenated himself, as he is racking up lots of goals and assists!

Tampa Bay lost again. Boy, they are a team that really has not found itself. I think they will learn that stacking up a team like that is no guarantee to win. Look at the NY Yankees for example. They buy everything, but do not seem to learn that chemistry can go a long way towards winning. Tampa Bay has lots of firepower(which seem to be firing blanks right now), but suspect defense and goaltending.

Brodeur got another shutout tonight! It is amazing how good he still is considering how long he has been in the league. I really hope he beats Roy's record for most wins.

Yeah, tampa bay never seem to learn, they don't look after their defensive part of their
team, leave all the work to the offense. It will only work on other teams like themselves.
Maybe Calgary and a few others.

Washington right now looks like the power in the east, and when Ovetchkin starts rolling
they will be even stronger.

I still pick Montreal

'Terrible Ted's' turn to be immortalized
Friday, 10.17.2008 / 9:56 AM / NHL Insider
By John McGourty - NHL.com Staff Writer

For the second time in three nights, the Detroit Red Wings will unveil a statue Saturday at Joe Louis Arena dedicated to one of their greatest players and one of the greatest players in NHL history.

The statue honoring Robert Blake Theodore "Terrible Ted" Lindsay, by artist David Arrigo, will stand in the concourse next to the statues of Gordie Howe and Alex Delvecchio. On Thursday night, the Red Wings unveiled Delvecchio's statue. Howe's statue was unveiled in 2007.

The statue that will immortalize Lindsay is one of two great honors he'll receive this week. On Wednesday, Lindsay will receive the Lester Patrick Award, along with Phil Housley, Bob Naegele Jr. and Brian Burke, for his contributions to American hockey.

Steve Yzerman, the Detroit Red Wings great who now is a club vice president, will expand his executive talents in a big way after being named executive director of Team Canada for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
“Hockey Canada is going to Vancouver to make all Canadians proud in 2010 and Steve is just the person to lead us,” said Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson. “Steve is well respected throughout the hockey world for good reason. Yzerman's assistants will be Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland, Edmonton Oilers President of Hockey Operations Kevin Lowe and St. Louis Blues Assistant GM Doug Armstrong.
“I am truly honored and privileged to take on the role of executive director for Hockey Canada going into 2010,” said Yzerman. “I am also very excited about the group that we have in place, a group that has great experience at both the professional and international level.

Avery's return to NY highlight of the night
Monday, 10.20.2008 / 3:00 PM / Game-Day Skate
By Adam Schwartz - NHL.com Staff Writer
After an eventful weekend in the NHL, Monday features just 4 games, but it should be a noteworthy evening when Sean Avery returns to Madison Square Garden as a member of the Dallas Stars to face the Rangers.

In addition to the Stars-Rangers game, the Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Boston Bruins, the Florida Panthers visit the Montreal Canadiens (7:30 p.m. ET, VERSUS) and the Los Angeles Kings host the Colorado Avalanche.

Here's what to keep an eye out for:

* Penguins right wing Miroslav Satan had just 1 goal in his first 3 games with the Penguins this season, but has 2 goals and 3 points in his last 2 games.

* Pittsburgh defenseman Mark Eaton, whose favorite road city is Vancouver, is tied for the team lead with a plus-3 rating. Eaton, who has played more than 17 minutes in a game twice this season, has a plus-17 rating since the 2003-04 season.

Crosby and Malkin united in Pittsburgh
Monday, 10.20.2008 / 12:26 PM / Fantasy Games
By Rocky Bonanno - NHL.com Staff Writer

Fantasy Forecast for Monday, Oct. 20

Weekend roundup:

For the first time this season, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, playing right wing, were reunited on a line, with left wing Pascal Dupuis, Saturday against Toronto. The move awoke a slumping offense, as Crosby and Malkin each recorded 4 points in a win against the Maple Leafs, and Dupuis, Miroslav Satan and Petr Sykora also scored goals.

"I'm trying to get the players' attention," Therrien told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review at Friday's practice. "I'm trying to get some chemistry. Basically, that's it. We did it last year and in the past, and it seems to work."

From what I have read from the Gazette is he has a slight concussion but may still play on Saturday against Anaheim.

So I don't think it's a season ender like what happened to Gagne last year. I hope not, I have him in two pools.:x

NHL.com - News

Thursday, 10.23.2008 / 8:44 PM / NHL Insider
By Dan Rosen - NHL.com Staff Writer

CHICAGO — Mats Sundin is once again in the news and therefore was a topic of conversation at the GM meeting on Thursday at the Chicago Hilton O'Hare Airport.

According to reports in Canada, Sundin is on his way to Southern California, where the former Toronto Maple Leafs captain may begin training for a return to the NHL sooner rather than later.

The GMs, though, are either not aware of Sundin's plans or are simply playing coy as to not give away any information.

"I have no firsthand knowledge at all," Toronto GM Cliff Fletcher said. "I think it was pretty well assumed that Mats will eventually start training and prepare for the upcoming season for whomever he might play for, but I have no knowledge at all."

Heard this story yesterday, he is coming back, but where? That is the real question, Rangers and Habs don't have the cap room, he doesn't want the play in the west so that goofy 20 million deal in Vancouver is out. I can only assume it's some place like Philly or Ottawa but I doubt he will be back in Toronto.

I can only assume it's some place like Philly or Ottawa but I doubt he will be back in Toronto.

Some time ago, it was announced that on one of his interviews, he stated, that if he does play it will be for one season only, so, if that statement is accurate, and he isn't going to start
playing till december, then, in my opinion it is obvious that he is waiting and watching to see
who the contenders are at that time, and will pick one of them, as obviously he is playing to
win a stanley cup, then retire. So, won't be the canucks, or any other team that is rebuilding or just doesn't have the horses.
He hasn't stated that he doesn't want to play in the west, that is only an asumption in the media.
